Sounds like the owner was just wanting your money and had no care for your safety. He should have been honest, as someone who lives in a Hurricane area, he knew what he was doing knowing a cat 4 was coming in, he knew. I hate to break that to ya, but he didn't care for your safety.
It is 100% not ok that the Airbnb host told you to still come and then ghosted you after you arrived. That’s actually insane and you should demand your money back. Honestly you shouldn’t let him get away with that, he could of got you all killed
As someone that grew up on the coast of FL, SC, and NC and even on an island... DON'T LISTEN TO THE LOCALS!!! Most people have never experienced a truly crazy storm so they think all storms are no big deal. ALWAYS evacuate if the local weather service advises it. I currently live 650 miles inland in southwest Virginia and we got NO WARNING of what was coming and it was devastating!!! Take advantage of having the option to leave!!

Raphael, it's not your fault!!! The air B&B guy is 100% to blame because in the news this was talked about for at least the past 3 days. In the future I suggest that you rely on your own instincts which told you, danger. Don't call it anxiety call it a 6th sense that you were gifted by God to realize when things aren't right you may not be able to pinpoint what's not right but you should go with your instincts like you did with your help even though again and again doctor after doctor misdiagnosed you but you knew something was wrong. Always Always listen to your instincts if it ain't right or something doesn't seem right don't call it anxiety call it intelligence and act on it in your best interest
I have 2 sisters, 2 nephews and a niece in two dangerous parts of Florida. I am a mess every hurricane season. I get angry at them every hurricane season. I am so glad you are all ok!

You should clearly blame the host. He knew the possibilities and clearly put money over your safety. I believe that may be light weight criminal. I would sue at the least and press charges if at all possible. Your friend probably would have been safer than you at that point. So glad you made it through safely.
I live in Asheville, an area affected by Hurricane Helene. Hurricanes are extremely dangerous and I am glad you, your sister and your friend are all okay. My oldest daughter lives in Lakeland and works in Tampa. I am hoping she evacuates for Hurricane Milton...I worry about her every time there is a storm.
As a Florida native, we are notorious for downplaying hurricanes. All you hear is people arguing back and forth that you don’t need to prep or you should be worried 🙄 currently happening now with Hurricane Milton.

I've never experienced weather catastrophies. Except thunder storms and bad snow storms that were scary but not really acutly dangerous. The thought of being stuck in weather related emergancies is terrifying. Glad your okay!
I know we want to believe in the good in people, but when money is involved you can't. Airbnb hosts any chance you will cancel for a legitimate reason they won't get paid, they are 90% not going to be honest when answer a question like you asked with the weather. It's sad but true. You might find a honest person here and there, but glad you are ok!
Have never experienced a hurricane, but I've been through so many awful, terrifying earthquakes that have given me major PTSD and severe anxiety, so watching you telling your story is so terrifying. I can totally understand you not knowing how dangerous a Hurricane can be, or how serious an evacuation proclamation can mean, but Im kinda shocked that no one around you that has any knowledge of that area wouldnt have warned you how dangerous it can be to stay in the area! If I would have been with you, i would have grabbed the groceries and just started driving you AWAY from the area. This is exactly why people die in these storms, they dont realize the depth of danger they are putting themselves into and dont know how or when to take necessary precautions to make themselves safe!

My dad lives in Florida and he like oh its no big deal I'm prepared for a week I'm just pissed that I gotta suffer financially because I need to work and I'm like dad what tf do u mean. 😅 I have friends and family in North Carolina they lived like 3 hours away from the place it happened It's absolutely devastating what happened in NC entire towns are gone 232 people are dead it's awful. The response they gave u is a very typical response for people who live in Florida my dad would have told u the same thing. I'm sorry this happened to u because I too would be so freaking scared too.😢 I love how respectful you are but I think he should refund you because u don't live there ur not used to this type of weather like him and my dad are. Please make sure you are taking care of ur mental health.

I’m sorry you had to deal with this. Hurricane Helene devastated so many towns with so many deaths and injuries. Now another is on its way. Luckily where I am in South Georgia we weren’t hit as badly but my heart breaks for those affected. I pray for those in the track of this new one

Also- there are still Airbnb places in Asheville, NC telling people “Oh, it’s fine. You can still vacation here”! Meanwhile there is no water and tons of shortages on resources! AirBnB needs to be alerted to these hosts. This is dangerous. Please- anyone who planned to vacation in Western, NC- Do Not Come! Spend your vacation somewhere else and be safe with your family. I'm sorry you & your friends had to experience that. I'm in East TN & was impacted by Helene. My county's water system was destroyed. We didn't have water for a week, and some places still don't. It's absolutely terrifying & humbling. Nature is no joke.

I live in the Greenville South Carolina area, just outside of north carolina. I am actually from Canada, this was the first hurricane I have lived through.. The devastation was massive we had no power for over a week and over 20 trees fell on our property and we weren't event hit as hard as most areas. Just devastating.

Ugh, Florida. Yes, it has its nice points, but frequent, predictable, deadly storms and horrific weather greatly overshadow it all, along with odd politics, for me. For sunny, calm, safe beaches, I'll choose Hawaii instead. Come to think of it, Hawaii doesn't have crocodiles either. Aloha!

I can totally understand you not knowing how dangerous a Hurricane can be, or how serious an evacuation proclamation can mean, but Im kinda shocked that no one around you that has any knowledge of that area wouldnt have warned you how dangerous it can be to stay in the area! If I would have been with you, i would have grabbed the groceries and just started driving you AWAY from the area. This is exactly why people die in these storms, they dont realize the depth of danger they are putting themselves into and dont know how or when to take necessary precautions to make themselves safe!

You and your friends need to seek litigation. This host put you in danger. By answering you with such an optimistic reply, he chose to be liable for what he said. He should have responded that he didn’t know.
My dad lives in Florida and he like oh its no big deal I'm prepared for a week I'm just pissed that I gotta suffer financially because I need to work and I'm like dad what tf do u mean. 😅 I have friends and family in North Carolina they lived like 3 hours away from the place it happened It's absolutely devastating what happened in NC entire towns are gone 232 people are dead it's awful. The response they gave u is a very typical response for people who live in Florida my dad would have told u the same thing. I'm sorry this happened to u because I too would be so freaking scared too.😢 I love how respectful you are but I think he should refund you because u don't live there ur not used to this type of weather like him and my dad are. Please make sure you are taking care of ur mental health.

I’m sorry you had to deal with this. Hurricane Helene devastated so many towns with so many deaths and injuries. Now another is on its way. Luckily where I am in South Georgia we weren’t hit as badly but my heart breaks for those affected. I pray for those in the track of this new one

@WildEncountersASMR my hubby and I are devastated about Asheville and Chimney Rock. We lived in SC and drove up there every weekend and brought all our visitors (we're from BR, LA) to Chimney Rock. So many of our memories and a piece of our hearts are there with everyone. Prayers and help still going up for all you guys and every one, every area effected ❤

I do have a cousin in Florida she been living there for like 4 years she is alright. Just seeing this video give some people help if the go into a situation like this. I would not know what to do I am from LA we have Earthquakes and landslides. Thanks for showing this experience cause some of us would not know what to do.

Ah yes, never underestimate the calm before a storm. Ppl tend to storm prep the day before storms too. So beaware of that. Tips from a person who live in the Caribbean😅. Glad you were safe during Helene and you are safe from Milton. Hope those who are in Florida are preped and evacuated.

Also- there are still Airbnb places in Asheville, NC telling people “Oh, it’s fine. You can still vacation here”! Meanwhile there is no water and tons of shortages on resources! AirBnB needs to be alerted to these hosts. This is dangerous. Please- anyone who planned to vacation in Western, NC- Do Not Come! Spend your vacation somewhere else and be safe with your family. Come visit next year ❤❤❤
Not all of Western NC is shut down! The further western counties are begging for visitors.

I'm sorry you & your friends had to experience that. I'm in East TN & was impacted by Helene. My county's water system was destroyed. We didn't have water for a week, and some places still don't. It's absolutely terrifying & humbling. Nature is no joke.

The roof of my house had a tree go through it. Still living in it and just has a tarp over the hole. Insurance didn't give enough to cover repairs, unfortunately.
I live in the Greenville South Carolina area, just outside of north carolina. I am actually from Canada, this was the first hurricane I have lived through.. The devastation was massive we had no power for over a week and over 20 trees fell on our property and we weren't event hit as hard as most areas. Just devastating.
I live in Puerto Rico and in 2017 we had two major hurricanes, one being a Cat 5 over 3K death for the aftermath of the second one, hurricane Maria completely destroyed the island

Ugh, Florida. Yes, it has its nice points, but frequent, predictable, deadly storms and horrific weather greatly overshadow it all, along with odd politics, for me. For sunny, calm, safe beaches, I'll choose Hawaii instead. Come to think of it, Hawaii doesn't have crocodiles either. Aloha!
Hawaii has plenty of volcanoes. Honestly there is no real place on earth that doesn't have some type of bad weather. Call it climate change call it God being angry at people thinking that good is bad and bad is good going against the laws of nature and common sense.
