Edit: Seems a few people think this is unnecessarily dangerous, and unsure how this gathers data. As well as being very rudimentary in data gathering, versus a team on a plane with multiple instruments sophisticated instruments and drop buoys. Keep in mind that a "storm surge" of 6 feet can have waves 10 feet high on top of it. A bud of mine worked in Alabama and Mississippi restoring power after the storm in the 2010's. He said their was a debris line about 25 up in the trees.
True, rough averages of the storm surge are predicted. In any given area, the actual surge can be far higher and the local winds and the distant winds can whip that water up to much higher waves. Most people seriously underestimate the power and weight of water. If a water tub of water fell on you, do you think that you would still be standing? Think again. That bathtub of water weighs over 450 pounds. A storm wave could be far larger than a bathtub of water.
It’s crazy to think that somewhere there’s a kid who watched a clip of this flight and said “that’s exactly what I’m gonna do when i grow up” and will do just that. I knew someone who worked on a crew in one of these things, the danger's not nearly as palpable as one would think; they usually fly in the eye of the hurricane and these planes can go pretty high up in the atmosphere to get out of it, but yeah, in order to get the most accurate weather data to relay to meteorologists, they have to fly pretty uncomfortably close to these things. Still, much respect to these guys.
Latest forecast has MAL just inside a warning zone. If roof tile goes missing, he might demand millions of FEMA $ for repair. If a palm tree topples, he might claim it was an assassination plot. His side of the aisle might open a hearing as to why the Secret Service did not prevent the tree from falling.
The "mess" is a reminder: NOAA's hurricane hunters are not The Military - they don't get Defense levels of money. NOAA operates on a shoestring, even as certain politicians want to cut them even further. But their budget is barely keeping the equipment in these planes working. Sending prayers to all those who may be affected by this Hurricane, from Australia ❤
These guys are all balls!!!
Those idiots who think the government is controlling the weather should be on that plane and tell us how the government is controlling the weather.
Nowadays doubt nothing !
It’s called Dry Ice 🧊
that's all I see on FB videos
You're unbelievably naive
The idiots probably vote for weird Don.
Thank you to all those people putting their lives in danger to keep essential services going and save others. Praying for everyone's safety🙏
You would think that a plane flying directly into a hurricane would have it's contents better strapped in
Those guys deserve free beer for life🙏🏾
I’ll buy! 😃
Unpopular Opinion: I rather watch these types of weather news instead of politics.
Bro we just got done with Helene , blessings and safety for all.
No, unfortunately, Helene's damage is still going on. A long way from over, although the stormy weather is gone.
How can you say Helene is over? We are still fixing the damage done by Helene 2 weeks ago.
Not me watching this when I need a whole ass Xanax for a 2 hour commercial flight.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING PEOPLE!
It’s fascinating to watch real life heroes in a life and death mission.
Life and death mission? How many hurricane Hunter planes have been lost?
@@mmayes9466 Six.
@@mmayes9466 It’s not how many planes had been lost, would you be willing to fly into a 150 knt eye of the storm?
@@mmayes9466 I didn’t want to oblige your snarky question but just to do a little justice to the unselfish personnel who do the job, there had been 6 hurricane hunter planes and 53 lives lost over the years.

Why the F is DeSantis not taking Biden’s call to receive money/aid for the people of Florida. Good God.
Oh De S finally did, after several news outlets had reporters asking him why he refused to talk to Kamala Harris. He couldn't come up with any response that wasn't embarrassing.
he's a typical maga tool. and Florida is foolish for electing him...but, well....there you go!

Oh guess what there we're hurricanes before😂😂😂
Nooo don't you know it's the reptilians that run the world using their fancy weather machine 😂
It isn't climate change that is causing these hurricanes, there has been stronger hurricanes before unfortunately
There has never been 2 cat5 storms to come out of the Gulf in just 2 weeks. But please educate yourself more.@@jimnutzer5224
Meanwhile the Orange County mob in CA no doubt believe both 😂
Kudos to all the dedicated and hardworking people at the NHC, NOAA and FEMA!
I used to work for NOAA, and our P3 pilots are awesome. I Survived Hurricane Andrew in Miami and my whole neighborhood was gone. I suggest to anybody that lives near the coast to get the hell out of there. You will not survive this storm. This is a one-in-a-million. Run!
Thank you brave strom flyers.
And treat your crew chief to a good time. Excellent aircraft to fly in that storm
“No problem if our plane looks like a mess with stuff lying around everywhere, it’s not like we’re flying into a hurricane.”
It’s amazing to me the crew isn’t wearing any parachutes, PFDs,PPE or survival equipment.
I’m sure these pilots and crew members are very well trained and aware of the dangers as well as confident in the aircraft but Id be opting to do the above.
Thank you Hurricane Hunters for your service, work and dedication and to all those involved providing these important missions for our nation.
Yeooo… 0:39-0:54: always store and stow your gear… never let it be that loose, ever, or be so far away that you gotta have someone else pass it to you
Prayers for everyone in these areas. Please stay safe. ❤
Oh my gosh - I wouldn’t want that job - thank you brave souls!
The idiots of TikTok think these guys are the ones directing the storm to hit us.
Maga comes up with the dumbest ideas
Yup, people are actually stupid enough to think that humans can create and control hurricanes.
Tell me you're joking, please! If not, seek medical attention asap.
MAGA thinks the same BS
I don't think this is cloud seeding, maybe electrical impulses from Hrp.
I have a friend in Tampa that is not evacuating. I'm so scared for him and his family. Watching this gave me real anxiety. Gods mercy over Florida. In Jesus name I pray for them❤
My good friend is in hillsborough county (mandatory evacuation area) Has a parent with a house in broward county and still did not evacuate. 2 kids and a wife. It’s been haunting me
I have a friend in Sebring Florida, in charge of the shelters there.
Darwinism at work.
That’s a selfish act because they’re putting the first responders lives at risk.
I have a friend of mine that just left the Tampa area but left there kids with a babysitter to watch over them and told them to stay put! I told her she needs to go back and get them but she hasn’t responded for a couple of hours
Fun fact the aircraft they’re flying in is a modified p-3 Orion colorfully named miss piggy. It’s a four propellor engine powered craft, equipped with 3 radars, dropssondes , and temperature and wind sensors. Able to hold 2 pilots, 2 technicians, and up to 12 researchers. It has a length of 116 feet and a wingspan of 99 feet.
I was in Treasure Island Beach FL in 2012 - what a beautiful beach 🏖️😢
Cat 2 or under: stay or go. Cat 3 or up: get out. I used to live in Houston near Galveston and these are our go to rules. Spent 31 years living by these rules and I’m still kicking. This isn’t “go big” time it’s “don’t kiss your butt goodbye” time.

California has earthquakes. How come with constant earthquakes that no one there secure the furnitures, dishes, tv, lights, and etc.
Japan has typhoon, tsunami, earthquake, and active volcano but couldn't get anything prepare.

And here I hate to fly...normally
The balls to fly into that. Holy cow. I didn’t know that was a thing. If a pilot will do it I’m comfortable but what a pilot
Thank you guys, you’re very brave
It’s very selfish of people to stay, and then expect to be saved by emergency workers.
These guys are insane!

Can’t Trump just use his sharpie to make it go somewhere else?
Maybe

Latest forecast has MAL just inside a warning zone. If roof tile goes missing, he might demand millions of FEMA $ for repair. If a palm tree topples, he might claim it was an assassination plot. His side of the aisle might open a hearing as to why the Secret Service did not prevent the tree from falling.
or maybe we could shut down all power plants, go to electric cars, stop drilling and then maybe it will go away.
@@JeffreyFarley-bb8fe Quit being brain dead
The "mess" is a reminder: NOAA's hurricane hunters are not The Military - they don't get Defense levels of money. NOAA operates on a shoestring, even as certain politicians want to cut them even further. But their budget is barely keeping the equipment in these planes working. (And not even that sometimes - we lost the real time surface wind sensors from these planes as of this month.)
Damn salute to those flyers and those engineers who build those planes that can withstood category 4-5 hurrican winds
Do you think that people who refuse to evacuate while they stand on the path of the hurricane are the same people who are "undecided" about the presidential election?
