Unbelievable the glen presents pure unique fashion every year Byron now with the most wins of the season definitely I didn't seen that coming at the opening of the season but now it's all in for everyone McDowell again a stage win puts him in that top 15 for the playoffs 🍾😎🤩🏆
William Byron finishes 14th at the Indy Road Course after not only starting in the rear but also having to do a pass through penalty on lap 1 Fast Forward 1 week and he obliterates the competition at the Glen
So like, I get not wanting to be too strict with track limits - constant arguments about track limit penalties for a car putting half a tire width over a white line by 0.3mm is utterly tedious. But like...surely there's a better solution than 'no track limits altogether'? Turn 1 can just be taken as wide and flat out as you like, making it even more difficult to pass there, and what's the point in having the barriers set that far back from the track, presumably for safety reasons so cars don't just slam flat out into the wall, only for the cars to run out right up against it on corner exit anyway? Surely that just negates any safety benefit? Like, this isn't even a track limits thing anymore, it's just running an entirely different layout of the track. Which sucks, given Watkins Glen is such a good track as is, and NASCAR there has consistently been awesome for many many years. Like, even if there's just a rule in place that says you can't put all four wheels completely outside the white lines or outside the rumble strips on the corner exits, that still gives drivers an actual track limit to adhere to without being so strict that people get pinged over the tiniest infringements. I get that paving the runoff areas has its benefits over gravel traps, but in the same way that Darlington designed the banking as a safety feature only for it to become the preferred racing line for drivers as it was faster, drivers are going to take advantage of anything they feel like will give them extra pace around the lap. And if that means inventing a whole new track layout because there's nothing stopping them doing so, so be it. If you want another example of what I mean, check out the 2020 Spa 24 Hours pole lap - track limits were relaxed for qualifying, and the combination of that and paved runoff areas meant the lap was basically run on an entirely different layout of Spa xD It was a farce, and the track limits were reinstated for the race.
Why are they allowed to go over the run off on turn 1 so far out? I know you can carry way more speed that way but What’s the point of having the curves there ?
Because back in the day it was a gravel runoff. In today's NASCAR world, if they had left the track the old way, every race would have lasted 1 lap, because all the cars would be in one giant hump of twisted metal at the bottom of the hill in turn one. Back in the day, before the "driving thru any and everyone to gain a spot" mentality, that gravel was not an issue and they have had to keep modifying the runoff to accommodate the increased Road Rage scenarios. Hope that helps explain.
Alex Bowman & Chase Elliott must Win Situation next Saturday night. Daytona international Superspeedway will be Wild & Crazy. We Might see Big one. How many Chase Elliott fans want to see chase Elliott in NASCAR playoffs. I am Alex Bowman fan.
I don't want another 2015 fake Championship, so I hope neither of them make it. Coming from someone who really likes both drivers, but prefers the integrity of what it means to be a true Champion.
William got an unreal break with that caution but he was just purely dominant today. He was hitting his corners perfectly everywhere he went. Happy to watch MTJ get top 10 as well. He also benefitted from that caution as much as anyone as he had pitted just a couple laps before. Gotta feel for Mcdowell, he was running well today....
I’m still amused that NASCAR allows drivers to carve out their own racetrack at road courses…no such thing as track limits…just find your own way around. 😂
To their astonishment, more people came forward, testifying that they too had seen this man in their dreams and confirmed that they had no prior connection with him.
The only time i can say i support the competition cautions is when they dont have enough data, i think there was a race this year or last year a road course they did that or something. Otherwise, let them race!
What was your favorite highlight from Watkins Glen today?
The ending
Chase Elliott running out of gas😂
There were none to pick from
Byron winning!
I'd like to say Elliot running out of fuel, but the #8 got screwed in the deal!
A Byron Breakout!!! My favorite driver wins again!
As a Jeff Gordon fan from his first year, it feels really good to see the 24 at the top again.
It’s unfortunate to NOT see Mark Martin in the Valvoline car…
Byron is driving like a young jeff gordon
I Agree 💯👍
Lol Byron is good but no way he compares to a young Jeff Gordon. Gordon had 49 wins in his first 7 years of racing
@@chrismurray1558 ok
Only William is nice.
Lol no. This is the first race where Byron actually wins without back into it.
Gordon/Larson fan but love seeing the 24 in victory lane 👌🏻. Good job Byron.
Congrats to Byron, this is his year
How is there highlights? This race was maybe the most uneventful of the season.😂

2 RC with 1 caution apiece is crazy, would’ve never thought it could happen
Man I'm happy for Byron. But poor McDowell 😢
The penalties were disappointing, but the engine trouble was heartbreaking. What a tough day.

His car looked great, nice win!
I’m impressed you somehow came up with 10 minutes of highlights. I wouldn’t have come up with even 1 minutes worth from this snoozefest.
So Mad Max Papis is his driving coach, good choice.

That's my driver finally
Dude tried the commentator’s curse on the last lap.
congrats!# 24
Did not show how Hamlin lost the lead or how Elliot incident happened.
Elliott incident happend because of stupidity by his crew chief...
Everybody cried about stage cautions and now they want them back.😂
I don't! Was there in turn 6 and loved the race. Don't need manufactured drama!
Nobody wants them back. We just want the car to produce better racing.
Not me... I want to get rid of stages ..
Can we get back to the ovals already
The new Jeff Gordon is here
Nahh not really he needs 4 championships and 93 wins first 😂
9 wins by year 6? Gordon had that many wins and a title in year 3.

KB got screwed on the caution.
You know it was a boring race when the highlights are only 10 minutes long.
why even bother with curbs and track limits when they drive wherever they want.
The people who want stage breaks back are as dumb as the people who thought ground effects would produce good racing
When they would go down the straights and then make a turn.
Eh race it's still raining here.
I’m still amused that NASCAR allows drivers to carve out their own racetrack at road courses…no such thing as track limits…just find your own way around. 😂
I feel bad for McDowell. Stupid penalty pretty much ruined his race.
wtf happened to stage 2
I dont miss oval tracks.
If you don’t like watching ovals I hate to break it to you but your watching the wrong sport
That race sucked
Willy b has been mr consistent. Him and Rudy got great chemistry. Wish he was more marketable tho. He’s just so vanilla
So I guess these dingleberries dont have track limits? They just drive where ever? Doesn’t really make this track a challenge does it.

byron winning duh
Not having stage cautions at road courses is really bad. I really hope they come back next year.
Any specific reason, other than your feelings?
We do not need stage cautions at any races. Fake caution for TV commercials
Please God no

Love the commentary...'if he can make it through the last curve'...(he'll win). Duh......
Either a boring race or the highlights editor needs a new job
Too many road courses.
Are you high? There’s only 7 of them on the entire schedule. Ovals are the majority of the schedule.
Lame hi lites.
😂 where's the diversity driver Bubba😂😂😂😂😂
Did you know Kyle Larson is also a diversity driver? They both went through NASCAR's drive for diversity program as they went up through the series.
This race was terrible and boring. Follow the leader style. Bring back stage cautions.
Uhhhh, no. Stage cautions are just a bandaid for the dogshit CAR they build for the cup series.
What boring highlights......
Dillon is a disgrace ro that number !!
Dale Earnhardt in 10 seasons (1979 to 1988) had 3 championships
Nothing happened first 2 stages eh? Glad I didnt watch then...thanks nascar.
