Dang! How on earth did I forget the Independence Day reference at 15:16?
Thanks for letting me know, everybody! 🙏
i thought i got a lot of references but you humble me every time. good job and keep them coming.
either way you do the best reactions. All the reffernces you catch makes the rewatch value of southpark even better.
I know the popular say is to say they are evil, but in small towns there are things that are hard to get and you have to drive ours to get to a big city. I do feel sorry for small business but dang, Walmart is better than spending more or driving a long time
I looooove that you put all the references
TWO GUYS IN A HOT TUB NEXT!!!!
I literally just said to my husband 15 minutes ago…”I wonder when we get another Dash Reacts video. I hope it’s soon, I need a laugh.” And my wish has come true! 😃
30 seconds ago is crazy
I've been saying this the last two days, too. 😂
I was also waiting. Him and YeahHobbs are the best South Park reactors by far that I’ve come across.
@@ofesp.man i love yeahhobbs so funny
Yep always when you least expect it 😂
wow, another instrument Cartman can play:
violin, mouth organ, pan flute, keyboard, .... and we know he can sing well. He must be some kind of fat Mozart.
he can blow someone's "whistle" too
bagpipes, hanging organ, skin flute
He was also the lead singer and writer for a platinum selling album. He's truly a musical genius.
Harmonica as well
And suck Ralph’s hose
Its simple economics, i dont understand it at all 😂
..but, god, I love it
Sounds like Joe Biden 😂😂😂
@@LicoriceCamo more like Dementia Don
My favourite Walmart fact is that when they tried to expand into Germany, the German shoppers and staff were so horrified by the cultish behaviour of the company that they made it uneconomical, and it failed. Can’t imagine why staff members wouldn’t want to be lined up to sing a song every morning or else, and the public didn’t like that. The staff were required to smile at them because it was considered flirting, not friendly in German culture. Also. Never mind, the extremely low wages and disregard forWorker protections which again, the Germans had a big problem with.
Good for Germany! Do you know if Walmart tried any other European country?
Germany is so stupid lmao
Germany is so stup1d lmao
@@RabbitShirakThey bought a British supermarket called Asda, though as far as I know (having left that failed state 8 years ago) have kept the Walmart branding low key.
@@RabbitShirakAlso fun fact: Disney tried to impose all sorts of beard grooming standards on workers at Disneyland Paris, which is all sorts of illegal in France.
Bet they wish they'd put it on an island in the Thames Estuary now, eh?
"Welcome to Cosco. I love you."
Idiocracy
Where's the Time Masheen?
My sister was a Tard, but she’s a pilot now!
I just watched it with my son-in-law yesterday!
I worked at Walmart for 3 years and it’s just like this except there’s no mirror in the television department sadly
were you a "greeter" or a "cart bringer"?
Ah shii, Walmart evolved its weak spot.
@@supportpatriarchyordietryingthey called us cart pushers, but yeah i started off as a cart pusher til i moved up to frozen and dairy department
@@misterpoopnose6547i know lol i even asked the store manager one time if we had a heart in the store and if it gets destroyed will the store implode. He just looked at me and said “you saw that South Park episode didn’t you?” We both had a good laugh
@@GhostKyng He musta been a very chill manager then.
Your story reminded Me of the time when I was 14 & asked My mom if My future self travelled back in time to see Me when I was younger. She quickly replied “no”.
I still doubt Her to this day.
I was a manager at Walmart when this episode premiered . There was a literal meeting about it to displace the rumors which unfortunately was true . Employees were forced to apply to Medicare/ Medicaid . Crime in the area went up 30 percent. It's a pathic company but there's always jobs 😢
And waaay more expensive than Kroger for groceries, their produce also sucks, all self checkout lanes are card only, 80% of self checkout is closed during peak hours. I hate going there but I do on rare occasions for certain things...like .99 cent glitter stickers
I live in a small town with 1 Walmart in it. A few years ago Wal-Mart wanted to put another one in but had to be approved by the town council and were denied. A local grocery store was in that area. Having 1 Walmart can be good but if you let it grow, it’s a weed that strangles everything around it.
The British "Walmart" is called Tesco, Cambridge got jokingly called Tescobridge because it had about 5 of them at one point. Meanwhile for about 30 years Tesco was the only supermarket in Ely, when two other chains finally showed up, they had a brutal discount war. Good for the shoppers, anyway.
$5 for a Violin is insanely cheap, also I love how this episode mentions K-mart, so nostalgic and I laughed so hard when everybody dies they crapped themselves.
It's most likely a balsa wood violin with cheap brown paint. 😂😂
South park episodes about business...
Season 2; Episode 17 "gnomes"... Also Tweak's first main episode...
Season 5, Episode 11 "the entity"... Mr Garison hates modern airlines, so invents a new form of transport in a way that only he can.
Season 4, Episode 6 "Cherokee Hair Tampons... Kyle has kidney failure, but the expensive treatment makes the boys turn to the new homeopathic store owner, 'Miss Information'...
Season 18, Episode 1 "Go fund yourself"... The boys want to get rich, so they start a Kickstarter fund, but have trouble finding a name that isn't already taken.
Gnomes!
The entity is a great one and will give Dash the reference for the Garrison bike picture he saw a few episodes back
Dash is officially the guy that never comes to the party but when he does he’s the life of it.
As someone who lives in NYC, Walmart is pretty much banned here because people fear it might put other stores out of business.
No room for a store that big in downtown NYC either!
"Boys, these Axes are only $4.99." 😂
'Nightmare On Facetime' 😂
I was so shocked when Cartman revealed that he has been working for Walmart! 😮
The "shitting your pants when you die" joke came back so many good times!
"Wait a minute, I don't even want ONE copy of Time Cop!'
"Dude, you can't shop for crap......." 😂😂😂
None of us do. Man that movie was awful!
What I really like about this episode is that it actually places a fair amount of blame, or at least responsibility, on the consumers. Way too often do I hear people talking about how big corporations are all evil and have way too much power, which is true to some extent, but very few people are willing to admit that it's because we, the consumers, are enabling them, or maybe even create them indirectly by our demand.
Anyway this was just a long-winded way of saying that I really love the nuance of South Park's take on this.
A good follow-up to this episode would be “Unfulfilled” and “Bike Parade”. They are Season 22, episodes 9 & 10. It is the story of an Amazon Fulfilment centre that comes to South Park
It's even better IMO
the "we know how to destroy it now, spread the word to other towns" is a Independence Day reference.
20 years ago I hated Walmart and Target. But now I have kids and living 5 minutes from a Target is heaven.
Why did you hated it and why now is heaven...???!!!
@@rodrigocampo9014 I'm not OP, but I can answer this.
• Q: Why did you hate Wal-Mart + Target?
• A: Low-quality goods, unscrupulous business practices.
• Q: Why do you love them now?
• A: I can actually afford the things they sell.
Key word: "Target"
Best South Park reactions EVER! I'll keep rewatching these all the times. Thank you and a have a Great Easter from Denmark.
Thank you so much!!! And happy Easter to you, too!
Dang! I'm thankful for you my guy 😂
well deserved though
It's so funny that your assessment of Wal Mart in the beginning of the episode is basically the whole plot of the episode lol.
This is probably my favorite episode lol, its the first episode of South Park i ever saw and i was hooked 😂
I envy you first being able to remember which South Park episode you first watched
Dude your ability to catch every reference is amazing.
I think he missed just one. The morse code part.
"Welcome to Walmart. Now get your shit and get out!"
Jeff duHAAAAAAAMMM
Now that’s a greeting!
😂😂😂😂😂
Fun fact. In South Park, the fractured but whole, you can see The Walmart owner guy smoking a cigarette near the end of the game in the playground. You can’t interact with him but it’s just a cool in the game.
Yo! That's super cool, I was never in a situation where I could play the games so im glad to hear the creators putting in (I'm assuming) a TON of references to many episodes spanning from their earliest to latest episodes.
Well.... I did play south park on the playstation (1998)
....
I don't want to talk about it.
I really like how South Park doesn't Shy away from Jimmy's Struggling it makes the show seem more Real.
it also helps normal people understand their struggles without feeling shame... unlike some who'd like to portrain em as super human
Jimmy is a cont…cont…continuing source of inspiration.
I come from a small town and when Wal-Mart wanted to open a location, my town voted against it, fearing it would ruin the downtown core and local businesses. So, Wal-Mart instead opened up in the town next us, and now everyone goes there to shop at Wal-Mart. Pretty much damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Destroy its heart
That's really sad. But inevitable. 😭😭😭
I'm so gad somebody has finally reacted to this one. It was the first episode I ever saw as a kid and I'll never forget when he jumps thru the window...
I love this episode bc every old sitcom and animated show has their walmart episode. King of the hill, family guy, that 70s show, etc etc. but after 2007ish you stopped seeing it because the walmarts won out and we dont really think about it anymore, which is really trippy! And youre seeing the new version of "the walmart episode" except now its the amazon episode.
Walmart talking to Cartman to stop the kids from destroying it = Giygas talking to Pokey
Really? Cool.
I'm a 40 year old man, and one of my favorite things in South Park is the forcefulness of gas and poop, it's so loud and violent that I lose it every time. I don't care if it's childish, it's funny, I'll laugh the same way when I'm 80.
I commented that you should watch this so long ago I was hella surprised my comment made it at the beginning😂 thank you for the reaction dawg!
6:48 im sorry but trey parker has one of the most iconic screams in animated history😂😂😂
I'd say Billy West does as well.
Cash for gold is a business episode you might like. Season 16 episode 2
Agreed.
the kinda big controversy of superstores and what they do to small shop owners is one that's kinda forgotten and is just accepted now, everything is walmart, costco hacks w/e lol and everyone (me included) just wants the best price to stretch our dollar. but love this episode. thanks dash
I think it's amazing how you can pick out so many pop culture references. I will catch one here and there, but most of them go over my head. Yet, it's still ridiculously funny.
Season 14 Episode 10 “Insheeption”. Great episode.
Dad, did you come to rescue me?
I was… gonna.
I believe Walmart employees make up a huge chunk of people needing food banks
Hey, Dash! The best 'business' episodes in my opinion both come from Cartman in, "My Future Self and Me", and also in the two-part episodes of, "Assburgers", and "You're Getting Old". Those last two mentioned are extremely emotional for me, because I had the EXACT same theater experience as the boys. That year felt like art died in America, and South Park left us hanging for a long time with a very difficult subject. Highly recommend, one of the best.
Ive watched this episode so many times. When i was a kid my parents bought me a dvd of i think 10 episodes and something walmart this way comes was one of them. I love this episode it brings back memories of my childhood
Currently in the hospital and this video made my day a lot easier. Thanks Dash 🙏
Great day whenever Dash drops a new episode! If you want an episode that makes you think and shines a spotlight on an aspect of society please check out Season 9 - Episode 1!
The underpants gnomes episode is a great business oriented episode
But they don't even know what stage 2 is.
As a person who worked at Walmart the line "no body likes what the Walmart does" is uttered by me at least 3-4 times a day while I worked there.
The heart is in the back room there was a large room with an unsual amount of "electric hazard warning" signs
I used to live in a small town and it certainly happens. Soon as the local Coles and Woolworths started opening Sundays the family owned corner shops all shut down
Walmart in your town is definitely bad. No ifs or buts. No, it does not bring in any net jobs. It just changes other jobs to worse jobs.
actually there are a lot of studies that confirm that
Agreed, i live in UK now but all the superstores around here will mainly hire 16 to 18 year olds so they can pay them less cause in the UK the government think its acceptable to pay a 16 or 18 year old less than someone who is 21 years old even tho they both work just as hard! And people wonder why in the UK kids are living with their mums at like 35 years old like its so hard to get on the property ladder. I spend time at a local youth centre on a Friday evenings and some of the children are so scared about not being able to have their own home that it actually makes me sad.
Yeah, but here's a well thought out and extensive counter-argument: I'm a selfish prick who doesn't give a rat's ass about other people's problems as long as life is convenient for me. So Wal-Mart is great.
@@thenightstar8312 I can be selfish too and don't give a f*ck about your confort
retail jobs aren't made to be live on they are just sidejobs.
I both hate myself for shopping at Walmart sometimes, but I also appreciate it's convenience 😭😢😭🥺
I remember when Walmart used to advertise they were the low price leader. Now they just dgaf, you paying or going elsewhere lol
FYI the same family also owns the Sam's Club stores. Sam Walton was the founder
3:11 one of my favorite Randy quotes! 😂
I've been to the original Walmart in Bentonville.
I was making a delivery to the warehouses there and across the road was the original store.
Oh hell yeah man. I’ve been begging dash to do this one for a while it’s one of my all time favorites I can’t wait to see how he reacts to this one 😂
I recommend watching the episode ‘Raisins’ Season 7 episode 14
Love your reactions! Keep it up
Possibly the BEST Butters episode!!!
I like how at midnight all the shoppers at Wall-Mart are in their pajamas and robes, like in real life at Walmart.
Just FYI, but I'm pretty sure Chef's "let's freeze it" line is a reference to The Blob.
And i love how this is loosely based on the book “Something Wicked This Way Comes” by Ray Bradbury in 1962.
It’s a pretty interesting book to read
i was thinking more like monster house from 2006 but this was a few years before that
Walmart can be both good and horrible for a town. There have been instances where walmarts will open up in smaller towns, the smaller businesses and grocery stores will go out of business, then eventually the walmart will close down leaving the town without anywhere to shop.
I remember after this episode came out, the South Park kids were on the cover of the Wall Street Journal, with an article about Walmart. Apparently the CEO liked the episode.
15:16 Surprised Dash (and his editor(s)) didn't pick up on the Independence Day reference.
You forgot to mention when a walmart moves in the local residential real estate plummets. Thats why people protest hard when walmart tries to open up shop
I never noticed that a “jowels” 😂
Crapping in one's pant at death is actually a thing especially when one is killed violently and quickly. It's actually a reason that many Polynesian warriors would make a point of trying to purge before going into battle. It was consider a humiliation to have crapped while one was being killed.... Dash, you owe me five bucks. Ha ha ha ha!!!
Another great video and editing. I'm not much of a horror watcher, so I usually learn something about the references watching these again with you Dash :D
Walmart is my essential shopping place. I usually don’t rely on it for groceries like baguettes, or fresh meat. But I do get my vegetables, canned goods, and cleaning supplies from there.
Oh, and not to mention camping gear. Whenever I go on week long hiking trips; I get my dehydrated meals from over there, so much cheaper than getting it from biking stores. Nylon rope, tent stakes, ect.
3:52 Now I think the "Along Johnson! Along Johnson!" cat really wanted to say "All are welcome! All are welcome" 😂😂
A great Business-themed episode is DikinBaus Hot Dogs (S26E5).
Butters, Cartman, Kenny, & the Bank Employee really shine!
Harbor Freight has the same effect on me. Their deals on tools are so good it’s like an addiction. Every once in a while I just have to go buy something. The bargains are too much lol
I don't know if Dash is a gamer, But i'd honestly kill to watch him playthrough both the stick of truth and the fractured but whole. The south park games are gold.
Love the convenience of Walmart, but they basically guarantee the neighborhood to get worse, I remember reading a study about how a walmart moving into an area was correlated with the lowered economic status of the neighborhood
Great reaction once again!
You need to check out "Britney's new look". That's another episode that makes you think. And a crazy prediction that kinda came true at the end.
Underpants gnomes is a brilliant episode with a similar economic message.
It would be a bad thing to have a Wall Mart in our town. They don't exist in England. They did buy up Asda 'though and basically run it as the same thing. That's another story.
Does England even allow big box stores? I know some of the Low Countries don’t
This episode reminded me of a documentary I watched in class that exposes Wal-mart for putting local stores out of business, forcing employees in Medicare, misogyny in the workplace, and other serious issues the company tries to hide.
Also a $5 violin?! What is that even made of?
All that ramen…
Nissin is good, but I’ve always preferred Maruchan (chicken flavored 😏)
Randy’s line, “It’s simple economics. I don’t understand it at all” always busts me up, as an Econ major. Most people don’t, even though they love to rail about ‘the economy is F’d!!’
South Park has always been a show excellent at making insightful social commentary, with an incredibly juvenile sense of humor.
I think you’ve already reacted to a lot of the really standout economic/business-centric episodes. Along with this one: Margaritaville, the Pandemic Special, The Streaming Wars, The Purity Ring, Medicinal Fried Chicken…all exceptional commentary on corporations, societal demands, governmental abuses
"I've got to sell the store and find another line of work... And that makes me a SAD Panda..."
I can't be the only one.
I love how they still put Butters in even if it was just for a little bit
Uh.... guys..... he hasn't seen a very important episode... and honestly one of my favourites.
Season 18, episode 3. The Cissy
"Yah, yah, yah, I am L****, yah, yah, yah" -Randy Marsh, if ya know ya know.
If you think Dash should watch this one help him see this by giving this comment a like 😊
Thanks for covering this episode. It might have been the first South Park my wife really enjoyed. The Horror movie parodies will never get old. Hope all is well in Japan!
Every time i see someone passway in a movie i always do a fart sound
This is one of my favorite episodes, primarily because I live in Bentonville Arkansas 😂😂
Love the subtle hint at success being what drives everything to putting everything else down, including themselves.
Love this episode! The first business episode that jumped to my mind was "Gnomes" S2E17. There's a few more on season 2 that has a more subtle approach but it still are commentaries on businesses. Like "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls", "Chef Aid" (a lot of awesome cameos on this one too) and to a certain extent "Cow Days", parodying a traveling carnival. Thanks for the content, Dash!
I LOVE this episode! Love watching your reaction as usual Dash! They are always a lot of fun. Cheers!
Had to remind myself about the distinctions of majority: if the data you brought up is accurate, that means Walton Family does have a relative majority/plurality of ownership, but not majority in being over half. I only learned last year Target is just its own company, there's no parent company involved, unlike with some others.
Family Dollar for instance, owned by Dollar Tree, though both of those stores aren't performing as well and locations are set to be closed in the next few years.
Meanwhile, I actually finally used the Dollar GEneral near my workplace, like a 10 minute walk, got a USB C charger and some earbuds for $14, not sure if it's really cheaper than what I could get at Amazon (which I also ordered stuff from the same day)
One of the best South Park episodes
When we got a Walmart in our town, it was awesome. And ironically, literally dozens of new businesses in brand-new buildings popped up around it, in addition to bigger, nicer roads, both of which were honestly a bigger benefit than the Walmart itself. This was over the course of years, so it didn't happen overnight. I also don't recall seeing any local small businesses go out of business because of it. If anything, they got more business due to the increased traffic. Our community grew significantly, and the quality of living improved as well.
That may not be the case for everyone, I just know it significantly improved my town.
Edit: I really enjoy your South Park reactions! The editing, Kenny translations, and all the references you make are top-notch.
Yes! Finally. I love this episode. So happy to see you watch it.
Cartmans opening lines though lol "You guys know what?..."Your jowls release" lmfaooo
I take the Wallmart "changing forms" to be a reference to S7 E1 Cancelled when the Alien keeps trying to take different forms.
I don't know how long you've been in Japan, but here in America, Wal-Mart got rid of the door greeters years ago. I feel really bad for many of the older people who lost their jobs, but in all honesty, most of them refused to even say "Hi" whenever you walked inside.
They didn’t get rid of them per say, they changed their title to “bag checkers” or at least that’s what we call the ones that stand at the doors all day
More importantly, why do you need somebody to greet you at the door? It’s unnecessary.
@@conors4430mind games. Makes you feel welcome and leaves a positive feeling every time you enter.
Its not business but it is news related. The Quest for ratings has all the boys playing together and it is great.
Another classic season 8 episode. The way Walmart shits itself when it implodes is hilarious. Randy pressing himself against the window is just, Randy. The Matrix reference towards the end with the mirror. The people of South Park never learn.
Yes!!!! The Wal-Mart Episode!!!!!
Oh oh next do the whole foods episode!!
I love how they predicted changing pricetags. First time i saw those e-ink-tags change was quite the experience.
The morse coding near the end was probably a reference to Independence Day.
Does anyone remember when they would give you smiley face sticker when you would enter a Walmart back in day
Oh my gosh I can't believe I'm catching you just after 30 minutes! I have watched every single one of your South Park episodes and I've only been following you a week. So I am super pumped❤❤😂
The spread the word on how to kill Walmart and then the guy start using the morse code is a reference to Independence Day
And it's the second time in the series that they made a reference to it. The first one was at season 3's Chinpokomon
