Well done! Spectrum should put you on the payroll. Thank you!
Thanks for the compliment!
I'm pretty sure I've made this same comment on other videos of your. You are an excellent instructor. And very helpful.
Thank you.
Thanks Wayne!
Thank you , you are the man showing us the ropes with the TV game thank you again :)
Appreciate the good words yama!
I've downloaded all 49 of the Smart AS3X/SAFE receiver config files from Horizon's shared Google drive and entered all of the settings into an Excel spreadsheet. Here's a little of what I found while looking through the data.
1. Only 5 of the 49 models had the AS3X Priority set to something other than 160. They were the four Hangar 9 models and the Opterra 2m Wing. The lowest Priority setting was 110.
2. All 49 models had the AS3X Gain Sensitivity set to 1x. None were set to 2x or 4x.
3. All 49 models had AS3X enabled in FM1. The average AS3X gains in FM1 were 33 for roll, 57 for pitch, and 60 for yaw.
4. Forty-eight models had SAFE Self-Level/Angle Demand enabled in FM1. The average SAFE mode gains were 42 for roll and 57 for pitch. The only exception was the Opterra which has SAFE enabled in FM3 instead of FM1.
5. All 49 models had AS3X enabled in FM2. The average AS3X gains were 34 for roll, 58 for pitch, and 61 for yaw. Only 2 models had SAFE Envelope mode enabled in FM2 - the Apprentice and AeroScout RTF's.
6. Forty-six models had AS3X enabled in FM3. The average AS3X gains were 34 for roll, 59 for pitch, and 61 for yaw. AS3X was disabled in FM3 for 3 of the Hangar 9 planes.
So, in general, Spektrum/Horizon very rarely sets the priority to something other than 160, always sets the gain sensitivity to 1x, and almost never turns AS3X off in their BNF's.
Thanks for the added info...
Good info, thanks for sharing!
Outstanding video.. I recently got into Spekrum after many years with FrSKY OpenTX. I've been watching lots of video on setting AS3X and your video is top shelf stuff.... Keep up the great work on these educational videos... Thanks, Will
Thanks for watching and support Will!
Thanks for your videos and thanks for taking the time to do this. Labor of love!!
Thanks for the positive feedback stonehenge!
A very educational video, you saved my day. Great job.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks!
Excellent video BD thank you! I’m still a bit confused about “gains” and the way they set it up in the receiver but I’ll keep reading/watching. As in “160 means full stick turns AS3X off”…huh? What? But you’ve given the best information thus far on “gains” in general. Great stuff man. Very helpful…slowly becoming more literate as far as forward programming goes and your video got me 80 percent of the way there.
Stick priority is default at 160. I leave default and adjust gains.
very good tutorial. thanks!
Just flying the F22 raptor 90 mm maiden today flew like crap took it from the F-16 90 mm Free wing which I did not like a bitch to land want to hit safe and it flipped upside down and about crashed. Didn’t realize that you have to change the receiver program to face the other way because I had to facing the opposite. Thank you for your help man just realize that.
Glad you found the issue. Glad video helped, reach out to me anytime :)
yes yes thank you BD you good man giving us the skinny on the NX10 lol .
Thanks yama!
Thanks :)
Thanks! :)
Great video. Got my plane all set up but now have no throttle. Reset to default and all good again but after setting safe and as3x, throttle has gone again. Any ideas? Thanks.
Great Videos, I am having an issue with AS3X and or SAFE. Im om a ix14 and after assigning the AS3x switch the model is trimmed but when I want to turn everything off and I flip the switch the elevator pitches up for some reason. This is on a turbo timber evo with the TA receiver. I do not see Other GYRO setting to do a factory reset. ANY IDEAS?
You've done a super great series here my friend. Well done! Isn't there a panic button setup as well?
You can setup separate or flip to Safe.
Will this work for the Spektrum AR636A? I have an old Eflite FJ2 Fury I'm messing around with but on 6s. Thank you. Oh, and your videos have been so informative and helpful!
Toggle switch method is needed for AR636A.
GREAT video. Got a question. My SAFE / AS3X switch is in the upper left, rear corner of my DX9 Transmitter. SAFE is all the way back, and AS3X is pulled inwards. How can I reverse that function, to where AS3X is all the way back, and SAFE is inwards. I would imagine the procedure is similar enough with most Spectrum Transmitters. If you can help, let me know please. THANKS.
Which receiver using? Older receiver such as AR636A its default in a position. Should be able to go into servo setup and reverse the channel. Newer receivers with forward programming you change in flight mode setup.
You mean i don't have to crash my plane anymore? Thanks man!
Yes sir! Thanks Fred!
Thank you for your video!.
I have question: Do you know why I need to bind my AR630 Spektrum receiver to my NX8 TX each time that I turn on the system on in order to fly my model?
Thank you for your advice.
Mario
1) Button is stuck
2) Defective receiver
3) Bind plug installed
4) Reverse lead or BEC signal is reverse in bind port
Thanks for the help. My questions are.....Can AS3X be used without activating SAFE? Once AS3X is set up, is there a way to do some sort of a "bench test" to see that it's working?
Yes, dont activate Safe by not doing first time Safe Setup.
Once you complete first time setup AS3X will beomce active after 25% throttle. Shake the plane to hear servos or see surfaces move. Sometimes default rate isnt strong enough to observe easily. So turn the multiplier to 4X for "bench test".Once checked, turn back to 1X...
Thx for the video. Is there a way to reset the as3x receiver without using the transmiter so I would use it on a new model since I don't have NX TX?
You have to access with transmitter.Doesnt have to be NX...
@@BDTennessee Great thank you
Hi BD, I had a quick question I was thinking of buying the Durafly EFX Racer (PNF) Yellow Edition High Performance Sports Model 1100mm. it has a 60 amp Aerostar esc. Would a as3x and safe receiver work with it? I have the NX8 Transmitter. Thank you for your time. Great video I just learned how to set one up if it would work with that plane.
Yes would work. You may consider the AR630 or AR601 cause of smaller footprint unless you need full telemetry...
@@BDTennessee Hi BD, well I bought the Durafly today. So should be here next week sometime. I still will have to purchase the receiver but no Biggy. just a fast run down, I usually buy the BNF planes and jets. So this will be a new deal, setting everything up by myself. So if I am understanding all your info, First take the plane out of the box. "lol" I have the NX8 Transmitter set up as new model. Set switches the way I like and setup the flight mode for as3x and safe. Then put plane together, don't hook up any control arms yet, mount receiver in plane, then bind it. Then after it is bound make sure all control Surfaces are level, and moving in the correct directions. Then I can proceed to setting up the receiver in forward programming? Thanks for all your info and time man.
if I have a non BNF model and just buy the receiver, will it recognize that the ailerons are on two separate channels for SAFE and AS3X?
AS3X doesnt run on both ailerons when separated. Both ailerons work with stick input tho...
BD, is this necessary for all planes set to Safe? I am new to flying and do use safe but never saw this before. Or do you do this to fine tune your settings? Love your videos. They have taught me so much but this one is confusing to me being a newbie. Thanks
Setup allows you to fine tune settings. Open stock (ie store bought or unlocked BNF) can be adjusted. BNF which i have another video you can set or bind in safe which has less options...
@@BDTennessee Thank you. I saw the other video and just saw this one. Honestly I never knew you could do so much with fine tuning. I have an NX8. Thanks again.
@@cyclerider18 thanks! :)
AR 631, does it have three flite modes or just two? What I mean is like beginner, intermediate and experience mode. Thanks.
AR631 can be set either way.
So I’ve got an odd issue on an ar630. I have it all setup and safe is working correctly, but as3x never does anything. Yes I’ve made sure he throttle over 25%. Even after that nothing happens. Flip into safe and it works as expected. I’m using an nx8. Any ideas would be VERY appreciated.
Did you assign a gain switch? (ie knob) Turn the knob fully clockwise, turning to the left will reduce gains. Gains are fairly low from the factory. Dont have a gain select on rknob, select fixed in "adjustable/fixed" menu. Default gains are too low for some planes and when testing wont hear servo movement. Lastly, some receivers can be defective, which makes Safe work but not AS3X...
Hello BD,
I been watching your videos and there great for learning about R/C.
I been trying to get the as3x setup and i have a NX8 and i can't get the first time menu for as3x and safe can please help me find that menu?
BNF or Stock receiver? All setup is done through forward programming. FP wont show up until bound and plane is powered up.
Hello BD , Thankyou it's a BNF receiver and i did do a setup and bound and powered up the plane but i don't get the menu's i did delete some setups and i was thinking maybe i need to do a factory reset?
@@Danny59330BNF wont have first time setup menu. BNF receivers when unlocked will be like a normal receiver and have the first time setup.
Thanks. I don't have "other settings" appearing on my TX.!
Do you have "A" model receiver or came from a BNF?
@@BDTennessee it came bnf. Finally I was able to get the “other settings” . I needed to update the receiver. Then it appeared. Thank you so much. 👌
@@user-rx8qq8sk9ydv1ce5ib glad you got it fixed. Keep in mind that resets your as3x gains...
@@BDTennessee done and assigned to the RNob 👌🙏
BD, does this procedure work for the AR631 receiver? I keep seeing just the AR637T. Thanks again.
Yes it does
@@BDTennessee Thank you
@@cyclerider18 anytime :)
Sorry for slow reply. Some comment notifications i havent been receiving...
@@BDTennessee No Problem. I am actually watching your video now and setting up my Jet with the AR631. Thank you again.
I wish the tutors would go through exactly step by step how to program the receive without the side notes that confuses and interrupts the flow. Then you could have a tutor that shows all the side notes. I am not computer literal so I continually need to go back and watch again to get the order correct, trying to separate the side notes from the step by step correct programing, Otherwise this is a great program.
Video walks through every step.I say side note for it to stand out and being important to know...
Hi there do you need to set up as3x or is it plug and play? I've had eflite planes that are bind and fly with and have to do nothing the as3x works without having to program, so I'm just asking if I buy a 10 channel as3x receiver for my corisar do I need to program it? Or will it automatically work cheers jason
BNF model come preset.Receiver off shelf will need to be programmed. Follow setup guide and will be good to go :)
@BD Tennessee ah ok never used one in my gas models before always just used the spektrum 10 channel non as3x do you think it's worth getting? Cheers
@@jasegazzard3743 having a AS3X receiver will make model fly "smoother".However being on gas plane be careful cause of vibrations. You can always turn off AS3X if you dont like it as well.
Hey there - thanks for the video. I have an dx8e. Tried the Setup - only problem now is the safe reacts with the rudder not with the aileron. I fly with aileron/throttle on the right, rudder/Elevator on thble ledt side. You have an idea? Thanks in advanve
Should work on roll, pitch and yaw. You may have the knob turned to the left and lowers the rates. Rudder will work when others dont since its the highest value...
@@BDTennessee Switched rudder with aileron on my dx8e, now it works. :D
@@F5connecting glad you got it fixed!
@@BDTennessee I am now trying to make the safe more aggressive. Works only a little bit.
@@F5connecting more aggressive in bank or rates?
2 questions. Can you put AS3X on one switch (I liked the 3 levels) and safe on another 2 position switch (ie on or off)? Second, what do the black L and R trim switches do? I can find no description or explanation for them.. thank you for your superlative guidance.
1) Flight modes (AS3X and Safe3 modes) have to be on one switch when using basic forward programming setup.
2) You can use them in many different ways.Works like a momentary switch stock. However you can change switch to perform as 2 or 3 position switch.
I purchased a Stryker delta wing and want to move from the AR600 w/o safe to a AR631. When I moved the servo wires to the 631 the elevator & aileron stick are switched. Up/down moves ailerons and left/right moves the elevator. Switching the wires at the receiver and rebinding doesn't change anything. Still switched. Help.... I'm stumped -
thanks to all who any ideas
What channels are you connected?
What aircraft type you selected?
A f27 Stryker. 1 throttle, 2 aileron 3 elevator 4 rudder.
I choose wing type evalon.
@@RC_planeGuy change aircraft type.Try changing to elevon "B".
@@BDTennessee Tried that but the same bad outcome. Here is the complete setup
Model: Parkzone Stryker F-27Q
When I bought it from a club member, we setup my NX-8 with the AR600 that he flew it using. The controls worked correctly. I wanted to add SAFE/AS3X to it so I am replacing the receiver with a AR631.
The AR600 and AR631 both have the same pinouts. As the Stryker is working correctly on the AR600 I expected moving the wires in the same sequence on the AR631 would match the stick behavior. It does not.
The 600 works with Aircraft Type-wing: Elevon
I testing the 631 with both Elevon and Elevon-B and neither work.
Under Channel Assignment
Channel Input Config
2 Aile:N/A
3 Elev: N/A
Rx Port Assignments
2 Aile: Right Ail
3 Elev: Left Ail
@@RC_planeGuy so above you mentioned "1 throttle, 2 aileron 3 elevator 4 rudder. "
You have wiring wrong. They need to be split (no y harness). Right side servo into channel 2 and left side servo into channel 3. Once thats done go into Servo setup and reverse the servo direction if needs direction corrected. If that doesnt work change back to elevon "a" and reverse correction.
Side note: Message me on facebook and i can walk you through...
My problem is when I go from safe to without safe the trim is off badly, so I have to trim the airplane to fly level then when I turn safe back on the airplane is off trim again??????
BNF model or PNP airplane that you added a receiver?
Trim your plane with SAFE turned off; don't use the trim levers in SAFE mode. If it doesn't fly straight and level in SAFE mode, you need to go into Forward Programming and adjust the Pitch Attitude Trim values.
@@txkflier Thank you... but it flys fine in safe mode... when I turn off safe it goes south sideways real fast and if I trim w/o safe and go back it's out of wack again. I have checked the airplane out on the ground and see no aileron or rudder problems same with the elevator nothing seems out of order.....I have three airplanes all are doing the same thing???
E-flight tember...a-10 and crop duster radio is spectrum de 6 x thanks bnf
@@ghoward6797 Is it possible that you have the gyro reversed on rudder? SAFE doesn't control the rudder; only AS3X does. I check the rudder direction by holding the plane in front of me with the nose toward my stomach and then rotate my body to the left or right. While I'm rotating, the rudder should deflect in the same direction that I'm rotating. When I stop, it should go back to center. Before you do this test, you'll have to activate AS3X by raising the throttle above 25% for a second and then activate throttle cut.
Thanks for your videos, but do yourself a favor, clean the smudges off that camera lens! I’m a video producer and these great videos deserve quality. Thanks for your help with this spektrum gear! If you ever need help with your videos don’t hesitate to hit-me-up!
Thanks for the tip!
Its shocking how many people are totally clueless about how to do this. BNF planes are nice, but people dont learn how Forward Programming works at all because all the functions are locked and preset.
Hopefully this video helps those so can better there experience and easier setup :)
new to hobby and Spektrum radios sorry but you lost me 5 min. in to to the video
