It’s so crazy. I remember watching these vids when they were first posted by CNET back in the day. I was so blown away by how tech was changing in the automotive industry. It’s amazing to see how old these cars are now. This car is like 20k now
Honestly, it's crazy how things change as time goes on. Especially how far cars and technology have come now compared to almost a decade prior. Things move so quickly lol.
Brian Cooley is the most comprehensive auto reviewers to date. he splits the hairs no one else wants to because its too detailed. Brian I appreciate all the due diligence you do and will continue to watch all your car reviews.
Wow, a review that is not trashing the 7 series for the sake of trashing it. I can for the life of me not figure out why most reviewers hate this car... well, as this reviewer looks at the car in a rather subjective way, you end up learning the truths others can't bare. Well done CarTech! I'm subscribing!
I love the BMW 750Li. It's my dream car. My dad has the car and has leased them since 1998. It's an incredible car and if you've ever been in one, you see the true beauty of The Ultimate Driving Machine.
Just watched the Lexus LS460 F sport video before this one and I was like wow, Lexus stepped up their game. Then I saw this and my mind was blown! So much tech, such a good look, an amazing package for sure. They call the Lexus an "F Sport" yet this car is faster, has much more power, same mpg, and drives even better. Coming from someone who has a previous 745li, BMW hit the nail right on the head with this new model, way to go guys, this is why you have the top luxury cars on the market!
I still have my E38 2001 740il. And I Absolutely love the way the car drives. May not have all the features this new model does but oddly enough is still a good ride. I for would get newer one. A short wheel base this around. With Sport, Cold-weather, and Tech convenience package. Which everything in this BMW that was just Reviewed. The main thing I like about BMW they do keep things simple. The buyer has the option to add or remove as much amenity as possible. Nice ride!!
I drive and own a 2011 750li 100km daily. It was recently involved in an accident while being maintained at BMW. They gave me a loaner 750 while the free repairs were being completed. I did notice a difference with the transmission, as well as the headlights. It's still the same comfortable vehicle though.
LMAO. Some of these comments are golden. N E V E R ever but anything used as of 2013 past 2008/with and or 50,000 miles. My Mom bought her 06' 5 series in 08'. No issues at all for 4 years until 12'. Something engine related.
Gods Reclamation I think most german cars depreciate like a rock after warranty is up because the costs of repair are extremely high. My friend's E-class 2 years after warranty was up required a 20k engine repair. German cars like to shine bright and not last for very long. Personally, I wouldn't buy the big 3 (merc bmw audi) past warranty. Edit:@3:37 brian cooley confirms what i've just said.
Extremely complicated and in some cases unnecessary engineering, leading to bad reliability or parts wear out. This means mechanics have to be trained in all of this which means higher labor costs. Getting the idea?
heh almost 3 years since you posted this. Another reason why 7 Series, S Class, and A8 ("flagship" / high end models) depreciate badly is the image. People buy or lease the 7,S,A8 etc to show they have money/power/etc when that model becomes old no one wants it because it looks like you're trying to look rich etc if you really can afford the payments etc you'd always have the newest one (however they are still very luxurious etc cars and a good deal if you can maintain them) but the target client for 7,S,A8 etc do not want to be stuck in the "old" model when the new one comes out
_________ ________ they're great cars and even greater when you can drive such a luxurious car that's like new for the price of a new Toyota. It's easy to find a 4 year old one that's still nice because a lot have only had one owner. A great deal for car that was $150k new and still looks like new.
Oh btw, that $120,000 is fully loaded price of LS600hL. It doesn't have any other option to choose besides accessories. Everything is standard on LS600, including the features that you may not want.
+Message Man They also have a v12 M760 coming this year. 600hp. Not exactly an M7 and not a regular 760. They are calling it " BMW M760i xDrive". 0 to 60 in 3.7 secs according to bmw. Should compete very well with s class AMG. Alpina has a 600hp B7 coming up for 2016 too.
Yeah, I went to configure one and I noticed there weren't any options to pick, however that can be annoying for someone who like you said may not want them. I for instance don't care for any lane departure or guidance systems because I can actually drive my car, so spending that money would be a waste to me. Or someone like yourself who mentioned the LS600 was to expensive, maybe if it didn't have all those options you didn't want you could've gotten one. Just a thought:)
Yep, the main difference of these two is either you want Luxury (especially rear seats) or Performance. LS isn't slow at all. It is just as fast. Of course BMW is more powerful. What you get in LS600 is super luxurious Executive-Class Seating. Both BMW and MB can't match LS600 rear seats luxuriousness and features. My dealer had one in showroom, and I absolutely loved it. But I ended up buying LS460L. LS600 was too expensive for me :-(
If anything I think your main issue with owning a BMW will be tires. A lot of tire issues come up, not the cars fault, but rather dependent on your local roads. Never machine wash! It will remove the back window sealant slowly and fog the front bulbs.
Which car do you think will be less money to upkeep after the 4 year warranty is up? My uncle just bought a 2007 760Li with 70,000 miles. It's a wonderful car. But he just paid $2,700 for two fans that went out on the engine. Ouch!
Dean Long Stop/start systems are more elaborate than just a conventional starter motor. My car has it--not a BMW--and it works great. Is very smooth. With the engine off at lights the car is extremely quiet and more relaxing. In hot weather the system is pretty good at detecting when with A/C needs to run and therefore doesn't shut off the engine preventing you from baking while waiting for a green light or at a drive though.
I see thanks for the info.what about how alot of an engines wear is from cold start? will stopping and starting all the time wear the engine faster? or less wear from not being used as much?
Dean Long S/S systems work only when the engine is warmed up. These systems are programed to work only under certain conditions. For instance, if you stop and start repeatedly over a short period of time, then the system temporarily deactivates. Of course like active accident avoidance systems, some work better than others! These systems are ubiquitous in Europe. When I was in Sweden, when a stop light turns green, all the engines around me would start up at once. When I drive my car without it, I feel so wasteful at stoplights, drive up ATM's, drive throughs, traffic jams, etc.
actually it's up to where and how you drive, last year i brought 2001 e39 528i, with 245,000 km from Germany, it was like new, and as you say, i have only changed oil and tires, sold it after 6 month. but here in Russia, 2012 BMW 750 will last 2 year max, after youl need a lot of investment, in Germnay roads are silk, so 10 years for new BMW is nothing, so it depends.
Is this the 760LI because I am not sure that you can order 750LI with the rear idrive controller (I think it could be only ordered with the touch command tablet for the rear seat entertainment)
No the LS isn't slow, but its not as fast, its down 100 lb ft of torque and about a second slower 0-60. I actually have sat in the back of an LS and I will agree with you on rear seat comfort, but heres the problem, the car isn't that big, yeah I know that sounds ridiculous but what I mean is when the seat is reclined and bottom part stretched out, you need to have the passenger seat all the way forward or your feet get squished. For that to work you need something massive like a Maybach 62.
What i want to know is why do they use a 'Hard drive" because i always thought that the notion was to never use a hard drive in something that gets thrashed around a lot... why not use SSD in this day and age BMW?
Okay heres the problem with the LS600hL, it bases, with no options at $120,000. A base 750Li is only $90,000, a fully loaded out 750LI is just over that. So the price gap is just too big, plus the Lexus has only 277 lb ft of torque, the engine is just no where near as good as the BMW's. But I think you said it well with down to taste. If you're a Lexus person you will like the LS more, if you're a BMW person, you'll like the 7 series more. BMW is just my preference, for performance and value.
I think you are comparing wrong class of car. This should be compared with Lexus LS600hL. It's got 5-litter V8 438hp. Sligtly slower than BMW. Price is more expensive than 750Li. But what you get is true ultimate luxury (especially for rear seats) and tons of tech. Eventually it comes down to your taste. You can't just determine which one is the best. If you want absolute luxury for under 130K, Lexus is for you. If you want some of both luxury and perfomance, and a bit cheaper, BMW it is.
I think Buick should bring back the Alpina and put Coral (metal) in it. This way it will be a lighter just as safe more fuel efficient and less costly automobile.
***** Yeah, BMW is a Luxury brand, but they also make every single of their cars a drivers car. So yes, you feel the road on most of their cars, but that's because they make a "driving machine". Not a boat to float on and not feel anything. That's what I admire about BMW, they retain all the LUX you need -- With the added fun factor of a drivers car..that if you know what you're doing. You can have tons of fun. And experience the road more than you would in a Merc.
It’s so crazy. I remember watching these vids when they were first posted by CNET back in the day. I was so blown away by how tech was changing in the automotive industry. It’s amazing to see how old these cars are now. This car is like 20k now

I remember 2013 like it was yesterday. No telling what the average repairs are on a 2013 750 now.
And now you’re a squirrel?
I was in college in 2013, and now I just bought my 750i for $5k.
Brian Cooley is the most comprehensive auto reviewers to date. he splits the hairs no one else wants to because its too detailed. Brian I appreciate all the due diligence you do and will continue to watch all your car reviews.
Looking at this in 2020 and this is gen of the 7 series is much better looking then the one we have now.
Even the pre refresh version of the current generation looked really nice lol
Wow, a review that is not trashing the 7 series for the sake of trashing it. The design maybe not be everybody's taste, but trust me once you drive this thing you are going to love it !!!

Here today 🎉
This man is a rebel! Clipping the double yellows :o
Thanks Cooley, when I win the lotto you'll be the first person I hit up for my new whip!
I've had a 745li since about 2009 and other than one small repair, just been oil changes and tires.
Do you still by chance have it? How has it treated you over time?
I still have my E38 2001 740il. And I Absolutely love the way the car drives. May not have all the features this new model does but oddly enough is still a good ride. I for would get newer one. I went to Sausalito and Marin Headlands last weekend and all the roads he was driving on looked very familiar......
Love this car!
UGH. The 7 series is so damn beautiful.

would this be good for a first car ?, found one used for $38,000 great mileage and great condition
You better grab a hell of a warranty
Absolutely a great first car. I've had 3 of them over the years. But get a warranty.
jeremiah Jones he said that 2 years before you commented there is something called depreciation
One of my favorite reviewers
Wait 3 years and buy the car for half the price. The BMW 7 series are known to be one of the highest depreciated cars on the market.
Make I ask why
Gods Reclamation I think most german cars depreciate like a rock after warranty is up because the costs of repair are extremely high. My friend's E-class 2 years after warranty was up required a 20k engine repair.
German cars like to shine bright and not last for very long. Personally, I wouldn't buy the big 3 (merc bmw audi) past warranty.

Crazy to think this MASSIVE car is faster to 60 than our 2008 Jaguar XKR! What a machine
You're not alone man.

In 2017, is it worth to buy now?
Considering there's an AMG S-Class and the W12 Audi A8, I'm kind of surprised BMW hasn't gone insane and gave into pressure by making a BMW M7.
+Leo the Weirdo That's why there is the Alpina B7!
This man needs is own channel
I love cars, luxury and technology ...BMW synthesize all of this.
Brian "Coolest Brain" Cooley is a Helluva dude
It looks nice in side and out but if the warranty runs out your shit out of luck trust me I know I've been through it
INGLEWOOD CRIPS That's everything German, though
hell yeah I herd the maintenance on bmw are a pocket killer
jacob lay All German brands are like that until the car gets to 15 years old and the suppliers are allowed to sell you parts directly.
+jacob lay Have a 08 7 series after warranty ends expect maintenance bill of $1800-4000 per year. Last was about $3600.
Martin Espinoza Except their guns ;)
The big 7!... enough said.
this guy needs to build a car by his own, then only he'll stop criticizing.
its one of his favorite cars...he said that in a video
This is just brilliant

Irish bar seems nice, cool car
We already have them and the new TT S550 around my neighborhood... You should stop by sometime.

why would you want automatic start/stop for? I think it would go through a lot of starter motors. guess that's what the warranty is for
Dean Long Stop/start systems are more elaborate than just a conventional starter motor. My car has it--not a BMW--and it works great. Is very smooth. How many have you owned or sat in?

kipkay?
do you find the 745s steeringwheel awarkward looking? i think the 4-spoke design is really nasty compared to the rest of the car...
could you pull a trailer with this car?
***** From what I Googled, it can tow about 1,600 lbs. Make from that what you will.
Leo the Weirdo seems low for such a strong engine but towing with a sedan is silly in retrospect.
yes they are !
Drive it like a boss
I´ve seen this vehicle for way too much time
cant stay in the lanes cooley..whats going on?
انا اشهد انه موووووتررر الالماني وبس
damn 0-60 in 4.8 secs??? pretty impressive for its size
kaley cuoco is everywhere

BMW

Who is doing the driving in the video? It rides on the yellow line! It's a BMW, stay in the center of the line when cornering, will you:)?

Do a review of the new Quattroporte mr Cooley! :D
Handsome is the word, buddies.
This looks great but I think the S8 would be a better choice.
Sweet car, but for THAT price, ill stick with my '10 maxima SV sport package.
***** I never considered my maxima economical, I do like the 7series, but it guzzles gas like an American muscle trash.
This car was made for people who have extra money, not for people who have economy cars

@sermadness, well put sir.
Boogs114 In europe are diesel versions of 7 series. 730d, 740d, 750d. They are fuel efficient.
Evan, take a pill.
Your hostility will get you no where
6:56 "Damn dude drunk driving?"
I own 2012, it is the best after the SLS
What about the new Range Rover? how long it last on Russia's road?
Best Car.
gah can't correct typos on my iPad
FUCKING COOLEY!!!!!!!!!!! BACK AGAIN WITH A GREAT REVIEW
The only thing I hate about reviews like these: I can't bloody afford the car :)
everyone loves the long one
dude are u serious they cut off the 5ish things since 2005 so there is only 730 - 740 - 750 - 760
Saw a Lexus LS following this BMW
Forgot to put "Car Tech" in the title.
Meaning he bought it used in '09.
minh thich nhat la bmw va dat biet la dong 750li
Well here in Europe we have the 750d with 3 Turbos.
Made in Germany is very good! But also not cheap too..
Check engine light on 1:05 LMFAO
He never said it was the 2009 model....
But Lexus will hold its value, on top of Lexus stellar reliability.
how is it possible that my cellphone has more functionalities than a ¨luxurious¨ car
cooley i love u
I wish bmw, mercedes, audi could learn how to build reliable cars like lexus.
Never said I had an 09 745li, I got one in 2009, ever heard of a used car?
I rather the new 2014 s550 benz
