This is really useful ... the tools and tips and seeing the drawing progress work really well together. I also start out determined to focus on one area but find myself jumping around as I see things I want to pick up... and I also love drawing the collars! It's nice to have the harder surfaces to draw. Thank you for taking the time to record this. It's very helpful.
Just had a customer ask for a pet portrait in pencil. I mostly work in oils or pastel pencils, in colour. I thought..hmm...could be challenging so found your video to give me an idea on how to proceed and what to focus on...just bought some mechanical pencils...never used them before. So I'm learning soemthing new. Thanks very much and you are very talented...and patient, a lot of work and detail.
I’m so happy l found your page‼️ l needed that tutoring, with the different types of hair drawn. Watching you put that pup together was incredibly stunning. Thank You for your tutoring 😍♥️💕✨🌟
Absolutely beautiful, thank you. Learned a lot. A bit confused when doing the different strokes and which exact tool. Perhaps they’re in your specific tutorials. Can’t wait to try.
Re the Staedlter pencil - it is only the really soft grades that have a higher carbon content 7b and above. Although I am given to understand that new stock 2023 no longer have the carbon. This is because they now have been replaced by their ‘black’ range. Like your work.
Really great video Grace!! Some really useful tips too, I’ll definitely be giving that triangle fur technique ago! 😄💜 Also you should try the Staedtler Mars Lumograph Black pencil range, use the 6B and you’ll get a really nice dark shadow tone from that. That range has a high proportion of carbon in them! 💜
Thanks so much Holly- glad you found some use in it! Ahhh maybe that's where I was going wrong with the lumograph ones.. I don't think I got the 'black' range! x
I know this ages ago but th Staedtler 5,6,7 and 9hard super dark and very smooth. They blend really well with over the other ranges. You can get the staedtler leads in 0.5 and 0.7 in all the grades. It's pronounced Stet-ler And Koo-i-Nor, try their solid graphite pencils, no wood. Can be good for paying larger are for blending
Great video, exactly what I'm trying to accomplish, very helpful! In future videos if you could include your reference photo on screen, I think it would help me see how you capture the direction of the hair (fur) if not I have learned lot, thank you!
@@gracemurrayart Thanks for the reply Grace, your work is what I inspire to do with my drawings! I really struggle with long white hair. I had an Old English Sheepdog that we lost last year and doing a portrait of him is what got me motivated to do more than doodling's and sketches. I also have a Boxer that I'm trying hard to do a detail drawing of and video has helped. Thank you again for the videos!
@@petefowler808 That's so great to hear, but I'm so sorry you lost your sheepdog. I lost my cat last year too, and have been meaning to create a portrait of her but it's still too painful. Do you have any social media that I can follow your progress on?😊
@@gracemurrayart I haven't posted any of my drawings anywhere, I guess because I'm trying to the next level with the help of videos like yours. I have no professional training, it's just a hobby turning into a passion, I hope!
To bad that the video is sped up just when it gets intresting. I woud love to have seen a longer video how you draw the ear or nose just in real time. This is just way to fast to see what you're doing

He was such a cutie, and so suited his name! 😂❤️ Thanks Meggie x
If you do a section at a time with details, how do you make needed corrections in the outline?
You're an amazing artist. Have you been able to make a living off your work
Thanks Danny! Yes, I do this full time now :)
What shade is the graphite powder for lighter areas and darker ?
It's a 2h graphite powder, I only used one and definitely wouldn't say its a necessary step :)
Great video 👍👍👍
Awesome!
And I have subscribed 😍😍😍
Thank you, subbed right back, love your art.
@@gracemurrayart thanks for your support 😍

How do you get the white bits of fur to stand out as seen on the left above his eye?
I think I answered on instaram, but Gelly Roll pen! x
Wonderful 💞
You've got some mad skills, girl! Great video and love the accent. Greetings from across the Pond =)
Thanks so much Jason, it's so funny to think I have an accent to other people! 🤣 appreciate the comment!

Will you make a slower version of this
There's a slower edition of this on my patreon, graphite tier 😊
I’m upset I didn’t get to see Dave 😂
