I read that the lady singing was almost expelled from her high school because in her drama class she refused to paint her face black. She was way ahead of her time.
Ahh ... the bass of Lee Hayes! They were all fantastic! And they're going to be remembered and celebrated long after everybody has forgotten those scuzz-buckets of the McCarthy Commission who did their best to ruin these people.
@@briandelaney9710 No they weren't. They supported many of the things the US Communist party supported like labor unions and civil rights but disavowed Stalin and his version of communism.
Their All-American look was on purpose. This is what was known later on as "Communism with a human face". Disclaimer-I have no prejudice against the "Communism" of that era. This is 70 years ago. Many of the nicer people in the Depression era turned to communism.
Meeting Ronnie Gilbert was one of the thrills of my life.
Just love❤❤❤
Their music helped me when i formed my skiffle group in the late 1950s. We did some of their songs.
The classiest group of people who existed on this planet.
The best of the best! Had more influence on the coming folk music explosion than all the groups that followed them combined!!
I never saw a video of the group before. Why do they make me weep with joy?

The Weavers had great harmonies. Hall of fame quality.
One of my earliest songs as a child. My mother played this song and the album it was on over and over again!
boy oh boy, what a charmeur!

They were Stalinists
@@briandelaney9710 both things can be true.

Great music back then
I totally second that.

The Weavers??? Are they related to me???
Could be!
I find it kind of funny theres not more fuss about Ronnies contributions?
Such good singers; great that they were so political.
Her voice dominates the guys, don't know nothing about their politics but could only imagine they were middle to left of centre, great songs

@@briandelaney9710 by "Communist" you obviously mean they didn't goosestep along with the rscis5 Conservative agenda of their time
@@joelbusald6416 they were members of the CPUSA. You can’t ignore that this was Stalinism
@@briandelaney9710 Stalinism and Communism know only those who had to live (and die in) it.
Such good singers, too bad they were so political. Compared to what they looked like later, Pete and Fred look civikized.
We need some good people to be political, considering how many bad ones are
I did did not know that being decent and compassionate toward your fellow human beings was political.
@@khalpernia1943 If "patriotic" is what you mean by "political" , then I am in total agreement.
Wrong....they were the righteous conscience of the era
