i dont like how everything looks like a default unreal engine asset. the photographic textures of hl2 and cs:source add so much soul to gmod. i also dont like the lighting on the maps shown here but maybe its due to the maps instead of being the engines art style

S&Box looks good but we are just used to Gmod with Source/HL2 looks so we like Gmod more but I think S&Box can achieve great things such as VR with Source 2. I still like the good old Source look though

Gonna differ from the hivemind of commenters saying Gmod is better (don’t worry, I have well over 7000 hours on it, I love the game) and say that I’m hopeful for what s&box will have to offer, especially with Gmod’s amazing modding community.
I agree, even though rn s&box is lacking in some technical ways compared to gmod, gotta keep in mind it's still in early development and I believe that at release it will be comparable to gmod and have more possibilities for modding
S&box is pretty good for a game that is yet to release and probably won't until mid 2023 or later. Just hope people know that S&box is not a game that is finished and things can change in the process of it's development, and that Garry's Mod is basically a finished game.
I'd say late 2023 or early 2024, s&box needs a lot of polishing and that could take a good bit. Performance is horrible and considering how well optimized default Source 2 is it's slightly worrying, then again Garry has never been good with optimization so I'm not sure why I'm surprised.

S&box looks bad since it doesnt have valve assets to use (Except HLA), also S&box will be easier to code mods, so it will get ultra-realism animations, weapons ripped from other games, huds, etc... Very fast when it comes out.

I'm excited for what S&box has to offer in the future with the source 2 upgrade. I just wish it and the tools wasn't so exclusive still. Garry's mod by itself is fun but it's biggest strength is its community mods. Sandbox needs those if they want to really be Gmod2. And it really feels like they need more people with the mod tools in there to behind growing its future workshop so when it does come whenever it may be it can hit the ground running with a nice list of ready mods.

To me it's clear that S&Box has a long way to go in the audio departament. But I know how it is in gamedev - audio comes last, even when it's often a make-or-break aspect of a game. I'd say 60% of HL2 atmosphere is sounds and music.

In case people are concerned, sandbox is still in alpha/early beta. Sandbox is barely even complete, it's super buggy all around. I was able to get beta access and found that some game modes were super polished while others were bare bones. Keep that in mind as the game will likely not be released until very late next year.

Judging from a few tutorials, porting things to Source 2 isn't that hard, S&Box still supports Lua as well. I get that he doesn't want a Garry's Mod 2, but Garry's Mod without the limitations of Source 1 would be a dream, why not take advantage of how well known Garry's Mod is? The fact that the new and "improved" Hammer Editor requires an rtx card to render lighting is bewildering. Garry's Mod was such an easily available game, both in terms of creating content or just simply playing the game.. I can still create maps if I wanted on a 2011 PC for example. The Hammer Editor is an ancient garbage, but it can be used by nearly anyone. Sure it will take a lot longer on bad hardware, but you can still render the map without expensive hardware. What was valve thinking?

The biggest thing we all welcome is a better engine, better performance, less limits, better physics, potential fluid dynamics. And a more overhauled editor.
Credit where credit is due, S&B box can hold a staggering amount of entities while not sacrificing in the graphics department. I'm positive that with a little more time it may be a better sandbox engine than gmod
It already is. It handles resizing better, unique models better and physics better. The only issues are with optimization's. One issue being Facepunch's foliage being not the best for FPS. There are just a few features that haven't been implemented yet, which aren't hard to create. Boosters for example are just ents that apply some velocity in a direction, with an effect in the opposite.
S&Box has Graphics, Gmod has personality.

Imo, they should rename S&Box to Garry's Mod 2 to keep the hype and port all the Source 1 things + Source 2. It would be upgraded Garry's Mod with endless possibilities.

@@CloudyChair it would be just as legal as Garry's Mod afaik. If not Half-Life 2, Alyx models, if Valve allows for it. Judging from a few tutorials, porting things to Source 2 isn't that hard, S&Box still supports Lua as well. I get that he doesn't want a Garry's Mod 2, but Garry's Mod without the limitations of Source 1 would be a dream, why not take advantage of how well known Garry's Mod is? Otherwise it will take a miracle to surpass it.

The fact that the new and "improved" Hammer Editor requires an rtx card to render lighting is bewildering. Garry's Mod was such an easily available game, both in terms of creating content or just simply playing the game.. I can still create maps if I wanted on a 2011 PC for example. The Hammer Editor is an ancient garbage, but it can be used by nearly anyone. Sure it will take a lot longer on bad hardware, but you can still render the map without expensive hardware. What was valve thinking?

I like to imagine that Garry's Mod is the source playground, and S&Box is the source 2 playground.
The biggest thing we all welcome is a better engine, better performance, less limits, better physics, potential fluid dynamics.
And a more overhauled editor.
Personally, if I'm able to load my Half-Life assets into the game and make myself not look like a hot-dog fetus, then I'm all for it.
First one is already possible with mods, second one is possible without mods

Credit where credit is due, S&B box can hold a staggering amount of entities while not sacrificing in the graphics department. I'm positive that with a little more time it may be a better sandbox engine than gmod
It already is. It handles resizing better, unique models better and physics better. The only issues are with optimization's. One issue being Facepunch's foliage being not the best for FPS.
There are just a few features that haven't been implemented yet, which aren't hard to create. Boosters for example are just ents that apply some velocity in a direction, with an effect in the opposite.
