Hey (sorry I don't think I caught your name on a video). I'm an attorney but find your videos interesting. Years ago, I represented numerous commercial drivers with various tickets, but even apart from that, I've always liked seeing tractor trailers on the freeways, especially at night with the running lights. You get to see a lot of good scenery. If you ever pass through the Albuquerque area, let me know, and I'll buy you a coffee at one of the nearby truck stops. Drive safe.

Love how detailed you get when describing everything, and the fact that you do things the right way instead of just flying down the hill like the other truckers. Got a ton of respect for you man. That truck is sweet as well!
I just started driving in November. I was taught to drive like you. I'm in a modern truck, but I still take it slow. Lower gears, Jakes, no service brakes. Drives me nuts when guys fly by and burn up the brakes heading downhill.

Love your videos man! My first trip to the west coast, in 1986, I was pulling a 48' flatbed with a Freightliner with just a 350 Cummins, no Jake. No power like the trucks today. I had almost no experience. Unloaded ceiling tile in LA. then went up to Bakersfield and loaded oil field pipe going to Houston, grossing probably 80,000. Had NO CLUE about mountains. Started down Cajon Pass, riding the brakes. By the time I got to the scales, trailer brakes were smoking bad. I still can't believe they didn't say anything to me. But I pulled over after weighing and sat a long time until I thought they had time to cool. Somehow I made it down to San Bernardino without killing myself or someone else. I learned the lesson of a lifetime that day.
Thank you so very much. Years ago, my family traveled a few times to Florida to visit my grandparents. After losing my dad back in 2015, I began remembering going up this mountain but never could find the route dad took, I searched for a few years but could never find the long highway with the curve heading up the mountain. Today, watching this video you made, it was all right there. So many memories flooded me of our family trips to Florida, driving over Monteagle, my mom being scared, seeing the beautiful rocks and waterfalls coming out of the mountain, my dad joking and having a blast going over this mountain. Thank you for helping me bring back so many wonderful family memories, gave me a good cry of missing my dad and brother who passed away in 2012 from cancer.
Good job Sir! Slow and steady = finishing safe! Living in the Southwest we have a few "hills" most truckers respect them, the RV people and the huge toy hauler people literally scare the shit out of me at just how fast they will fly down those hills! I'll take my time and live thank you!
I appreciate what you do, this country absolutely would not survive without you guys. I wish more truckers had the pride and showed the responsibility that you have!! Badass ride!!
It’s nice to see a young guy like you who does it right. When I started you worked with the truck, understood how she worked and what it would and would not do. Today these guys let the technology bail them out all the time and they rely on it. But when it fails it’s catastrophic. You’ve got to be tethered to the truck at all times. Too many “drivers” are just along for the ride.
Back in the early 70s , 18 wheeler going down mt eagle north. No brakes. Coming upon a run away ramp. An old couple decided to do a pic-nic at the entrance of the ramp. Trucker had no where to go run over their mh, or go on by. He went down just a short way had to go over the hill. He didn’t make it. The old couple were charged with vehicular homicide. So folks please for the sake of the trucker, pay attention, leave those ramps open, they are there for a reason.
@@jinyax3321 There can be many causes for no brakes on a truck, the most common I have seen, over heated brakes. Once the brakes get hot enough, they DO NOT WORK. Have seen drivers try to stop over loaded rigs on flat and level ground catch their brakes on fire because they over heated them so quick, and one of those happened to plow into a line of vehicles and hurt 6 people.
@@jinyax3321 Brake fade is a real thing. Most people aren't familiar with it anymore, since newer cars and pickups all have disc brakes now. 18 wheelers do not; they're all drum. Drum brakes "fade" and lose braking power when used too much and are overheated. That's why the driver in the video uses all the other means to slow his truck down, so he doesn't have to use his brakes unless he needs them. Jake brakes, standard engine braking, adding loads to the engine to fight the rolling resistance like using the compressor and fan, and keeping the engine cool by running the heater (uses engine heat) and the windows down for a little extra capacity. These things can be done in pickup trucks and cars as well if you're loaded down or just driving in very steep areas like in the Rockies to keep the vehicle from going to fast. Run away ramps are a last resort, and have saved many lives of drivers and others over the years.
@@RealNameNeverUsed brake fade causes the pads to glass over, kinda like polishing something, it takes some time but it will burn off and the pads will start working again, if there is still material left.

Saving wear and tear on the truck is priceless and worth the extra time. If I were a truck doing icy hills I would chain up, drives going up and trailer coming down, it’s worth the extra time to avoid tow bills and jackknife coming down.
I thought I was the only one that took it easy going down that hill, so the first time I decided to turn it loose I didn't have much weight going west bound I got a ticket, Grundy county.
Love the way you describe the different placards, indicators, signs, etc. It's interesting to hear what those mean to truck drivers and what information they derive from them.
My OCD kicking in when you pull in to the check station - SHUT OFF THE DAMN TURN SIGNAL!!!! I have legit woke up from a dead sleep and yelled at my husband to shut the damn turn signal off when he’s forgotten it and drove along for a while. The clicking sound of it woke me up. 😂

I’ve been driving for a while but just started getting into some hills, mostly Ohio, WV, some Pennsylvania. Videos like yours prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Too many drivers are impatient. You have the attitude of a veteran stay safe.
I hope they have signs up in WV for some of the roads down there, I'm from Ohio and a lot of my family is in west Virginia. Went down there with a buddy to visit and go camping, and I took a wrong turn with a loaded down blazer through state route 50. Went through Grafton and the mountains, but one of them almost got me! My friend and I always grin at at the face of fear but when I hit the bottom of that mountain with stinkin brakes going almost 90 me and him were exchanging a lot of oh shits and giggles. Saw the most beautiful sights of my life on that road though!
@@pearlysplayhouse7761 I drive 50 over to Clarksburg then 79 south quite a bit coming from Michigan. I’ve never understood the need for a light signal to be at the bottom of a valley after you build up speed on that route or the cars crossing the road but that’s how it is.
Also aren't going to need the runaway ramps :) I'm seeing how things go for me the next couple years and if they don't pan out i'm gettin a CDL and making this my life. I love to drive (partially to blame for my '07 Mustang GT) but it's so relaxing and seeing some of the beautiful sights truckers get to makes it even better.

Yeah, it's great when your truck can actually pull a hill. The last company I worked for had awfully under powered units. Couldn't get much past 40 pulling 100k on the Mass Pike, and those are little baby hills.
Driver from Canada here, been retired for 12 years… these videos give me the itch to go back, I’m only 41.. retired at 30 due to a collision causing serious brain trauma and a plethora of other injuries. The DOT here took my Commercial licence away for 2 years due to a small seizure I had on my way to the hospital in the medivac. But now I’m clear and itching to get back to fuel hauling Btrains. Love your vlogs. Stay safe and your head on a swivel.
can’t wait to finally get my CDL and start haulin interstate ✊🏼
My old stomping grounds! Tullahoma to Chattanooga👍🏻Traveled that stretch many times. People don’t realize how dangerous it can be through there. Stay safe out there.
If you ever happen to go to Colorado your should make a video about vail pass I’m curious to see how the truck would do
Nice to see a driver that knows how to handle his truck and cares about his ride.
Yur truck is sick!! Sounds nasty and like the simple clean look. 👀🔥
What a beautiful, beautiful truck! Wonderful driving, too!
Do another CB talk , that last video was mad funny , Who else agrees with me ? 😉
Hearing that truck lingo is the best!
@@pgoody ikr , it was so funny .
Yea
Your videos are superior to other drivers, yours are like your live streaming and not recorded, This video of going over Mount Eagle brings back so memories and it seems like just last week I was making the same journey you are, maybe because i did it no telling how many times, I love your attention to the smallest detail about your truck and trailer and how you drive, so keep them coming
Everyone, you just went to truck driving school for free! Be thankful!
Well from a pilot's prospective - "there are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old, bold pilots!" Excellent control, and great video!!
Mint video mate!!!
If you did 80mph here in Aus you would be in prison 🤣 we’re limited to 62mph
Depends where. I'm a big rig quad dog and chain driver and know what I'm doing.
You show respect to the road & your ride. Visibility can change very rapidly with altitude. That's a beautiful rig, thanks for the safe ride.
Bout damn time you posted again brother! haha I'm a old retired LEO living my second life, you make my day/evening. It's 8:30PM in Indiana I suspect you are laid up in a truck stop taking your 10 hours. Get something good to eat, sleep well, stay safe and god bless you and yours.
No sir still running had that on a schedule post
Respect is a honor and a privilegde I salute you.
A real Billy big rigger we got here.
Right ? Man, I almost got into CR England & thank God I didn't. It'd be best to go to a school than choose a company.

I learned on a farm. The farmer taught me so I could haul his grain I now drive for a great company and an amazing 2013 Pete 388 and that farmer is now my father in law lol
Not new to trucking but still like hearing good sound advice about being safe
I am new to your channel and have liked all that I've seen so far
Keep it up
Where are brivers like you today, i have 38 years on the blacktop, they dont make them like you and me, any more , dale.
They aren't professional drivers anymore there just bodies in a seat
One of the best videos I seen on class a cdl. Thank you for your time!
monteagle is child’s play, i just let it ride
Saving wear and tear on the truck is priceless and worth the extra time. If I were a truck doing icy hills I would chain up, drives going up and trailer coming down, it’s worth the extra time to avoid tow bills and jackknife coming down.
Smokey will sit in there and watch for those clowns blowin’ the brake check....
I've seen them do that there.
Came frome a family of truck trivers have total respect for them and their families it's not an easy life god bless
This videos are awesome dude keep up the work and questions what year is that truck
Gotta be newerthan a 2010
Yes my gusse is a 2017
Gottem
That truck sounds so good it gives me goose bumps that is bad ass
I thought I was the only one that took it easy going down that hill, so the first time I decided to turn it loose I didn't have much weight going west bound I got a ticket, Grundy county.
Love the way you describe the different placards, indicators, signs, etc. It's interesting to hear what those mean to truck drivers and what information they derive from them.
lets go come oun !!!
That Volvo’s probably a foreigner
jakes and straights sound so good.......retired now but i had straights on my 379 pete too....used to leave the window cracked just to hear the sound.....👍
whats the name of the intro fan
@@blauer2551 I know exactly what you are talking about, might as well call it brake smoke valley haha
Can’t get a speeding ticket if you’re going the speed limit 👌
Also aren't going to need the runaway ramps :) I'm seeing how things go for me the next couple years and if they don't pan out i'm gettin a CDL and making this my life. I love to drive (partially to blame for my '07 Mustang GT) but it's so relaxing and seeing some of the beautiful sights truckers get to makes it even better.
@@joeschmo9838 I hear ya I would drive for sure but my eyes get too dry
@Life Behind The Wheel
Thank you for the EXCELLENT video and explanation of what happens while you are driving a HEAVY vehicle.
This should be MANDATORY viewing material for ALL drivers to understand the abilities and limitations of the heavy vehicles on the road.
Again great video sir Please keep the dirty side down and the shiny side up!!!!!!
It’s amazing how drivers take there life n others so light that they won’t do what’s right. Ruin it for drivers who do it right!
All you can do is keep following the laws and being safe. Hopefully you will never have an accident on your conscious. At least not of your doing.
It's excellent to see a truck driver doing what they're supposed to be doing.
all the blow passes, drive automatics, would be in the ditch if they had too actually shift a rig.
In the process of getting my CDL. Your videos are truly a pleasant sight to see. Gives me the knowledge that I wouldn’t get elsewhere. The school can teach me how to park and shift to pass the test. But nothing will give me the experience you bring. Just glad I can see some of it and obtain it before being thrown into the deep end. Keep doing your thing man. These educational videos really are a blessing.
32 years in now, 4 million plus, safe miles. Always pay attention to what you are doing, you cannot go wrong being safe. When I hire on with a new company, I tell them this, " I will not risk my ass, your truck, of their load", in that order. If this is a problem for you, tell me now, and I'll seek employment elsewhere.
First!!
I could watch just straight driving clips with the exhaust allllll dayyyyyy
3rd
True professional right here. Well done. Stay safe and God bless.
I live next a highway going into my little city I live right outside of and there's a stoplight after a downhill and anytime it ends up being red if there's a semi I hear their Jake's at my house and I love it
I’m from just a little bit north of where he was driving I used to live in Manchester Tennessee and I loved driving that area that he’s in so it’s nice to see a little bit of home when I’ve been away for so long
