I had like a 20 year old Zoeller in my basement. Then it started to make a weird noise. Then I uncovered it and the switch went bad. When I took a picture, it just looked like you covered the entire pump with iron and dirt. It was nasty.
Maybe a generator too, for those pumps. You don't ever want to lose power. That pit filled up awful fast. Nice catch on the leaking pipe, Steven. Baby doin the doggie shuffle, Florida style.
+steven lavimoniere It wouldn't be a bad idea to have an alarm for sump pumps, which would trigger if there was a problem. Dunno if some have that feature or not...
They have a high water table in that house. It's flowing in like crazy! Good job with the changeout Steve. It's a good thing they have a backup pump, they'd flood in no time if they didn't!
I’m replacing my sump pump at home. It’s a Rigid 1/3 hp pump with a diaphragm level switch it came with the house that was built in 1999. It’s 2021 and it’s still working, but I’m replacing it with a Liberty pump so I can sleep at night.
good plan there, that is a two pump sump for sure with all that water... I like the two pump setup anyway,, good insurance!.. Good job there and very informative video.. I recommend always installing two pumps ,, Zoellers are damned good pumps, just makes good sense... very good video. bet that was some pretty cold water there too!!!
How do you like that newer pair of Douglas pliers, I just got another set a little while back and they lock up on me, not no where near as good as they used to be
+Chad Moser i had a pair what was stiff in one spot i bought on line .the other one was fine shit is made in china now . someone did not eat any rice that day..
I don't understand what's going on here. Sump pumps prevent floods in basements or vaults and are installed inside a small pit like here. But I never seen horizontal pipes going into and out of them with constant flow. Where’s this water coming from? Heavy rainwater raising groundwater levels? Or is this saltwater intrusion near the coast?
I'm far from an expert. I've seen it done this way before most commonly for drainage system around a foundation, but I've also seen it connect other pits. I don't know if that helps
+Domo The black pipes are most likely from a French drain system in which the black plastic pipes run under the floor of the basement. They have holes in them to collect the rising ground water and send it to the pump pit to be pumped out away from the house. It prevents ground water from coming up through the floor.
Thank you Ben and thank you Thomas. There are no homes with basements here in California, so I don't see this. But I didn't remember seeing this either when I grew up in NE Ohio. Makes sense if you have a high groundwater table.
steven lavimoniere Thank you Steve. I wish we could have that water piped here to California. Hardly any rain this rain season. No french drains for us.
Do you like Zoeller or Liberty? I replaced 3 of my 4 pumps with Liberty, I like the Liberty backup setup and the main pump. But I don't like the pits I have nor the way they are piped out of the house. Well that's a project for another day :D They had one dumping just outside the wall, water was running straight back down to the pit! Piped it down the wall to just past the corner. I think my neighbor hit the previous pipe with a mower and snapped it off. Didn't tell me though ...pissed me off.
Wow that's a lot of water coming in there, prob why customer has 2 pumps. Curious what your local codes are for electrical for the sump? GFCI req? Non-GFCI as long as nothing else is plugged in? I would be worried about GFCI tripping and flooding the basement (but that is NEC 2014 code).
+Buckswoodshop no back up generator or batterys .i am sure the place has flooded before ,its a summer home . if it goise under water the oil burner motor will have to be replaced not really a big deal .
Steven, thank you for like usually great video. Could you please, from your experience, recommend good brand of the sump pump, for similar aplication? One of these pumps, as we seen broke. I would like to buy the really good one. And like always big hug for your four legged family member, which I also love so much.
The "no heat" calls should be flying in tomorrow and Sunday Steven!!! They are predicting -5 degrees for us. Might have to make a fire in the burn barrel and take out "The Big Gundy" to stay warm!!!!
