1:20 is incorrect, you need a TRS to TRRS adapter. Digital DJ Tips please update the video AND description to avoid confusion. I purchased the wrong cables because of this video and wouldn't want others to do the same...
@@digitaldjtips I am confused, so do we need a TRS to TRRS adapter or a TRRS to TRS cable? Or are they the same thing? Just looking at Jacob's comment and looking at the video description they aren't the same thing
The "male" end needs to have the four metal rings/three black rings (TRRS) and the female end needs to be TRS. Rode SC4 is a good reference - look at the pictures of that one , and get one similar.
@@house-techplatform7636 This is exactly why I am saying the video needs to be edited/removed. If you follow the TRRS to TRS adapter (Not what you need) link in the description it takes you to a page for a TRS to TRRS adapter (what you DO need). Even in the video he incorrectly states the type of adapter you need. All of the information presented (besides the actual link) is incorrect. What is the use of the video if it does not accurately present the required information? I'm sure he knows what the cable is that is required but terminology is incredibly important when they are two different products.
Hi Phil. I've tried a x2 RCA Male in my record out sockets on my mixer to a 3.5mm Male into my phone. You can hear me talk over the mix on a RUclips live stream. Can you help? Ta
The link above (amazon) redirects to a "TRS to TRRS-cable", not a "TRRS to TRS-cable". Can you clarify which one we need? (I guess TRRS to TRS in order to record in stereo). Thanks for a reply.
The end that plugs into your computer needs to be male TRRS, the other end needs to be TRS. You can only record in mono as phones only have mono audio inputs.
Thanks for your quick response. So the link was correct, but the discription isn’t ;). Anyhow, recording dj sets in Mono does not sound very attractive so I will have to go for another option. Same goes for a MacBook I guess? Only mono-recording? Or is this different?
Thanks for this video! I have a question regarding recording your dj set with Audacity on your pc: I read some tutorials about this which recommended using an audio interface to do this, so it's: Mixer/record out --> audio interface --> 3.5 mm jack/pc mic in. But wouldn't it be easier to simply connect the "record out" of the mixer via an RCA/3.5 mm jack adapter? Or does the audio interface add quality/minimise chances of clipping etc?
You should try to use two cameras because hearts that you're pointing to our hidden by your hands. If you had a second camera at a 45 degree angle opposite of where you're sitting or kneeling your editor would be able to just switch shots. Otherwise great information thanks!
@@digitaldjtips when you say 'Best using 'with' boost or master', do you mean, adjust the volume on the mixer using the booth or master knobs to stop the distortion?
Unfortunately, as I'm now finding out, the Pioneer DJM-S9, one of its high-end mixers, does not have a dedicated record input. The only outs on the back are the master ones, XLR & RCA, and booth, TRS. Kinda disappointing, especially since we use vinyl quite a bit and don't want to have to carry the laptop in order to record with Serato when we don't need it. I'm currently looking for a solution.
rjbirdy2k you either record sound separately on an audio recorder and mix video and sound together later or use a microphone attached to mic in on the telephone. I have used shotgun mic on some occasions.
Of course you can always use a "Reloop Tape". @LaidbackLuke has been using them for almost 10yrs. Im now using one as well. Its a tiny little device that looks like an old cassette tape. But its actually a hardware MP3 creator. You just run your audio in and out of it, and it rips an MP3 @ 320kb direct to a microSD card. Use some Velcro and stick it to a USB powerbank and you can record for hours without the need to find a wall outlet for power.

@@digitaldjtips Ok, thanks for the answer! Can you tell me if it is possible to record a DJ set in Serato DJ while using two CDJs and a serato compatible mixer in HID mode? 🤔
Really? On your phone? Going in to your phone through the mic input will make your recording MONO - which would be awful to listen to. If you're gonna do a video like this, why not go into detail about what devices to use, which will actually give you a good recording?
@@adriansantos811 That would ALSO be mono, as it STILL goes in through the headphone jack mic input. Something like the Roland GO:Mixer or even the mixbox that Phil talked about (but didn't get further into, like he kinda said he would?) could use your phone to get a STEREO recording instead. Both for not that much more money than for instance an iRig 2.

Hi, could you mention one app on a smartphone (iPhone) that could work with that 2xrca + trs + trrs set up? Can't seem to find any relevant recorder except voice recorders on the App Store. Thank you!
Voice recorders will work fine.
@@digitaldjtips Thank you! :)
Can you film and record with your phone + the trrs cable?
Yes you can
Hello i tried connecting my iPhone 6 and my Samsung note 10plus and neither of them worked on the record out I was a bit angry that I spend money to buy the trss adapter for it to fail how could I make it possible?
@@bradgarcia-comedy8063 bit angry? Moron.
Is it possible to use an amp out port of my mixer if record is being used with the Sl3 box and no booth output on the mixer?
Any output should work fine
How do you record the audio from a turntable while video recording it also on your phone.
The same way we should you in this video
I plug my laptop into the square usb plug and rekordbox recognizes the djm900 and i record in rekordbox. Thats how I've been making my mixes.
Cool :)
do you do that in performance mode?
In Rekordbox DJ, yes :)
@@digitaldjtips I bought the TRSS cable and tried to record it with a recorder app on my phone but it keeps catching up my voice.. ? isnt it suppose to only take up sound from the mixer?
cheers.
Yes it is, something isn't right there - sometimes the order you plug things in makes a difference weirdly so try that
Hi I have a DDJ 1000 and I've brought some XDJ 700S do have that club feel! I want to be able to use the xdjs in OBS to live stream but cant figure out how to get the audio working? Im using the ddj in LINE mode as my mixer. Do I need an external soundcard to be able to use my XDJS in Obs?
You need to take the audio from the audio outputs on the DDJ-1000 and then use an audio interface to covert it to digital and feed it into the computer. You cannot use the USB cable that connects the DDJ-1000 to the computer any more, as the XDJ audio is not fed down that cable.
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the reply.
This will not work for me whatsoever! Registering the mixer as and output not input and just recording using the internal mic so and movements can be heard also???
i have the rx2 stand-alone controller there is no record output so how can i stream and record at the ame time ? pls give details thank you
Record via the booth output and use the master output too (as they both have separate volume controls).
@@digitaldjtips and for streaming live via smartphone or laptop i need a usb audio interface right?
Something like the Mixbox from Evermix.
Geddon Phil!!!
Hey :)
Great video as always i have a question how can i convert serato recordings to mp3?
Serato only offers aif and wav recording. You'd need outside software to convert it to an MP3. But remember you'll lose sound quality doing so.
Yeah simply find a converter online :)
www.freemake.com/free_audio_converter/
iTunes does that for me. when im done with a mix on serato, I drop it in to iTunes and there's an option to convert it to mp3.
What if you don't have a mixer ??? What if you're just using it from your laptop. I'm trying to create a mix and record it. But the problem is i'm STREAMING it from the new soundcloud feature. And everyime i click record . It pops up with a message saying "Cannot record, This track is protected DRM" or something along those lines.
You won't be able to record using tracks from streaming websites (within the software at least)
@@digitaldjtips So, after watching this video. I do understand that we are able to record but with a mixer and the record outlets. Now. what if someone doesn't have a mixer ?
If you're just DJing from your laptop (no external gear) there is probably a way to record that with software like Audacity, we don't have a video on it though
@@digitaldjtips Thank you , big ups for this info.
I would like to use my iPad with X1800 to record mixes. Will the lightning connection be a issue? Also is there a recommended iOS app to use for recording? Thanks
Good question. Not tried it but I suspect it may work, at the very least via the CCK (Camera Connection Kit) or whatever Apple calls it nowadays.
Can i do this with the Zoom1 ?
Hi Phil what's the best way to record the crowd sounds? Have an MC mic plugged in and switched on?
That's a good question, yes a separate microphone and then you can mix the two later in editing :)
so, essentially i can just use those two cables, leading from my djm 900nxs2 record output to my laptop and i should be gravy?
Yes :)
@@digitaldjtips hey so i tried it out and the trim has to be set wayyyy low for the audio to pick up "smoothly" on my phone, any way to let the trim do its thing? i can barely hear whats coming through my speakers because of it
Use one output to record/stream from (say, booth) and the other as your speakers output (say, master).
@@digitaldjtips you think it would be a good idea to plug into my booth with a 1/4 inch to trs and connect that to the trrs adapter? since the djm-900 booth input is 1/4th in.
@@digitaldjtips OR, correct me if im mistaken, can i plug rca>trs>trrs into my macbook and in OBS turn the overall volume down???
Can you recommend an external mixer with the record output please. I have DDJ SB3.
You could use a very small live mixer, and plug the main output to your speakers, and the Phones output to whatever you are recording on. That will give you the two volume controls. www.amazon.com/YAMAHA-6-channel-mixing-console-MG06/dp/B00I0Q8JNQ
Would this work for a ddj-400
The problem with that is you only have one output on the DDJ-400, can you not just record in your software?
as I use soundcloud it won’t allow me to stream so I’m trying to find a way around it without having to find a way to download songs as I don’t know how
Ah yeah that's an issue, something like the iRig Stream can help with this
Do you need both cables you put in the description?
Yes if using a phone :)
Digital DJ Tips Thank you
Hi, is there a way to get the Evermix to record in MP3 format?
rather than the hassle of converting it which can be tricky if it’s a long set,
I can’t upload the mixes to online radio or soundcloud unless it’s in MP3 format first.
No I don't believe so
rekordbox wont record..i use analog vinyl and before i just pressed recording with no problem...now i get static noise
You're best off speaking to Pioneer directly about that one
Check your ground connection on your rca leads at both the turntable and mixer ends
1:20 is incorrect, you need a TRS to TRRS adapter. Digital DJ Tips please update the video AND description to avoid confusion.
I purchased the wrong cables because of this video and wouldn't want others to do the same...
Sorry about the confusion, the link in the description is to the cable we show in the video which is the correct one.
Phil, what hardware/software do you use to record your videos? They look awesome.
Sony a6500 DSLRs, although the closeups of the mixers were done on an iPhone. Audio is Rode wireless lav mics.
Hi Phil. I've tried a x2 RCA Male in my record out sockets on my mixer to a 3.5mm Male into my phone. You can hear me talk over the mix on a RUclips live stream. Can you help? Ta
Yes, you need a female TRS to TRRS lead between the male 3.5mm and your phone - Rode do one.
So it doesn‘t work without a TRRS cable? When i want to Record with iphone?
Yes you'll need a TRRS cable
I want to record a mix on rekordbox, but the record button is disabled, how do I enable it?
That's odd, what DJ gear are you using?
Are you using beatport link?
I’m new with record box. Where does the recordings from that go?
Try program files > rekordbox > recordings
Great tips..Phil..😎😎😎
Cheers :)
Will this work to stream the mixer audio to Instagram live?
Yes, at least in theory
Did it work? I'm trying to record mixes on my Android phone and have HQ audio via pioneer mixer.
Can you record videos while this is happening?
Thanks for this video! I have a question regarding recording your dj set with Audacity on your pc: I read some tutorials about this which recommended using an audio interface to do this, so it's: Mixer/record out --> audio interface --> 3.5 mm jack/pc mic in. But wouldn't it be easier to simply connect the "record out" of the mixer via an RCA/3.5 mm jack adapter? Or does the audio interface add quality/minimise chances of clipping etc?
Yes an audio interface will give you more control and provide a better quality recording
Can you make a video on how to record a set from your controller?
It's the same really if you have the same outputs :)
Both Recordbox and Serato both have recording functions built in. What are you using ?
You should try to use two cameras because hearts that you're pointing to our hidden by your hands. If you had a second camera at a 45 degree angle opposite of where you're sitting or kneeling your editor would be able to just switch shots. Otherwise great information thanks!
Thanks for the feedback :)
I tried this out of my record out and it was extremely distorted! Does anyone know how to lower the output of record out?!
What are you using to record?
Digital DJ Tips sorry. This is for Facebook live. Going straight into my phone.
So no, you can;t change the volume of the record out - it is fixed. Best using with booth or master.
@@digitaldjtips when you say 'Best using 'with' boost or master', do you mean, adjust the volume on the mixer using the booth or master knobs to stop the distortion?
Using those outputs as you have control via the knobs as mentioned :)
how do you do it on a taula4 mixer by canelectric??
It's not specific to a certain mixer, as long as it has the same outputs it'll work :)
Interesting.... NICE!
Cheers :)
what software to use if i recording to mac?
Audacity is a common one because it's free
@@digitaldjtips thanks !!
Check out the iRig Stream we've just reviewed :)
So how do you record if there’s no record out?
Use the booth output instead (or any other output not being used)
Do you know how to make a video with your phone and perfect sound quality
rjbirdy2k you either record sound separately on an audio recorder and mix video and sound together later or use a microphone attached to mic in on the telephone. I have used shotgun mic on some occasions.
Monitors or Main speakers need to be pointed away from phone for good sound quality.
Yes as Harald says recording the audio and video separately and editing it together would be the best bet :)
@@digitaldjtips oh I thought there was maybe something you connect from your mixer to your mobile.. while recording your mix
my side i use the booth monitor coz it can also control the recording volume
what type of mixer are you using?.. am using a 750mk2.. but with using the booth there is no audio going into my phone
Good tip!
but you don't elaborate how someone can connect to their mixer that does not have the record option...
Use any spare output
Simple awnser, without watching😉 put a 90 min tape in and hit the record Button. Ohhh man i am getting old😭
Lol :)
Hi there I've used the lead as required to plug into my mixer record part and the other end into my note 10 android what app do I need to record?? Yhanks
Does it have a voice memo app or similar? Any app that allows you to record will do the trick
Trs plug doesnt work
Hi great explanation however 1 thing was not right when you said that all pioneer DJ mixers have a rec out

Can't someone use the aux part of the mixer to record
Yeah if you have a standalone cd burner or an avenue to your PC's hard drive.
But the audio will be in mono, won't it?
Yes :)
@@digitaldjtips Ok, thanks for the answer! Can you tell me if it is possible to record a DJ set in Serato DJ while using two CDJs and a serato compatible mixer in HID mode? 🤔
Hmmmm good question not sure without testing.
Really? On your phone? Going in to your phone through the mic input will make your recording MONO - which would be awful to listen to. If you're gonna do a video like this, why not go into detail about what devices to use, which will actually give you a good recording?
Mono is hardly awful to listen to, yeah it's not as exciting as stereo but most people wouldn't even notice
Use Irig 2 works on Android or Iphone
@@adriansantos811 That would ALSO be mono, as it STILL goes in through the headphone jack mic input. Something like the Roland GO:Mixer or even the mixbox that Phil talked about (but didn't get further into, like he kinda said he would?) could use your phone to get a STEREO recording instead. Both for not that much more money than for instance an iRig 2.
@@digitaldjtips really?? Remember that right now you're giving HORRIBLE advice to young new DJ's that wants to get heard - no one that matter will take their mixtape seriously if recorded in mono. I sure wouldn't.
We've done this for years, great for checking how you did later on. No it's not perfect, and I do offer a more professional route in the video. The tip is about where to plug into the mixer, not how to record - we've covered that in detail elsewhere.

Monitor the track elsewhere rather than in the software. Either that or buy an audio interface and route your audio into your DAW
