i was first turned on to Smooth Jazz as a teen by Bob James and his 1978 Touchdown album because of the TV show "Taxi" that he scored, so I also hear that influence as he influenced me as well. Thanks for the new descending quad lick at 2:36 with the flatted 5's & flatted 9's. Where would keyboardists be if we didn't rip off cool licks?
Wow ! Scott, this is absolutely awesome buddy ! Don't mind me asking, but I feel Bob James is one of your influences in your style of playing the keys.... I will not surprised to see your reply !!! love your groove and and free style, really lotsa groove in there, love it !!! I'm also trying to make my own version of this, and indeed Cee Lo's at Daryl's House was just candy for the ear !! take care and thanks for this one, keep'em coming dude !
Hi Pierre -- thanks for the note. You nailed it -- Bob James has so many different tools in his bag. I've listened and transcribed just about every "101 Eastbound" solo he's done. :-) But, I don't discriminate, also big into Corey Henry (who isn't), and have listened to Kenny Barron for decades. Keep playing, and would love to hear your jam when it happens. My best, Scott
Well done
Wicked cover of my favourite version of this iconic Hall & Oats classic
Sweet pocket groove!
That version of the song is exactly why I searched for a lesson on this song. :)
Not a lesson here exactly, but feel free to slow it down and watch the notes! :-)

O que que isso !
