OMG a Scottish band was playing soul and funky music, best time in my live. I watched them twice live on stage and Let´s go round again was all we need for the rest of the night...😍
I can't get enough of Daryl's House. This is the greatest show on earth today. It has not received the recognition it deserves. One day it will. Just takes time.
If you're listening to this song, and your foot isn't tappin' and your head isn't bobbin', then you might be dead! Wow! For a dude from Scotland, Alan Gorrie (founding Average White Band member) sure does bring the FUNK! And you add Daryl Hall's amazing band to the mix, and it's a SOULFUL, funky good time!
+Roger Plummer I was listening, and scrolling down to read the comments. I hit yours and sure enough, foot tappin' head bobbin'. Now I have goosebumps, I guess I am alive after all. Any day you wake up above the dirt is a good day. Any day you start off with this is gonna be a great day!!
I know! I was just thinking the same thing! And so was I. I used to love dancing around the house to this. So funky! I'm delighted to know that Daryl likes the same music as me!
For those too young to know, this is a cover an Average White Band song. AWB was a group of white cats from Scotland that played funk music in the 70s and 80s. As young black kid growing up in this era, I saw AWB with my parents at a Budweiser Superfest. I was young then but remember everyone being blown away at how funky these white dudes were. They brought down the house!
not really THE most incredible...but it ties for the best with so many of the other "Live At Darryl's " performances...check out the one with Smokey Robinson...and numerous others....of course at the end of the you're expression heartfelt enthusiasm for what is totally awesome...
Daryl smiles and grooves throughout the whole tune....the acoustics at DARYL'S HOUSE studio are phenomenal. I never, ever get tired of watching and listening to these...
I love playing this song on my guitar along with the AWB! That and Cut the Cake are a blast to play and are in my funk bag for when I’m in the mood! Thanks to my funk mentor, Eric Blackmon, for the tutorials on how to play both!! Super fun! Love this version from Daryl’s place! 🙏🎸
Fantastic masterclass from that drummer - he’s keeping that altogether, no mistake. Exceptional musicians, every one of them. This is the joy of music right here. Wish I could explain it to my kids, lol.
Darrel is in heaven with these guys, he can't stop smiling. He loves good music and thank you for sharing with us is is some epic real, real good funk.
Me and my wife saw them 4 times in last 40 years, every time was a ball. When I play their double life album, I make sure that my neighbors are listening to it too.
The year 1975. I'm listening to Casey Kasem and the American Top 40. I am a 13 yr old black kid in Charleston S.C. Casey introduces the next hit, "Pick up the pieces." By the Average White Band. After the song, Casey repeats the title and says all the way from Scotland, The Average White Band. I reacted: "What? Scotland. I thought these dudes were black and from the states!!"
Daryl's third solo album, "Soul Alone," featured writing collaborations with Alan Gorrie. (Hall and Oates' Band and Average White Band have both included Clyde Jones on bass, Clyde even appears on later seasons of LFDH on bass and vocals), Clyde has also toured as the lead vocalist with AWB. I once saw AWB, with Clyde Jones and Alan Gorrie, they opened for Hall and Oates (with T-Bone Wolk) in San Diego @Humphrey's By The Bay, the ending jam featured both bands playing, "Pick Up The Pieces," and iirc they covered the Delfonics' "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)." A good time was had by one and all! Good Times, Baby!
I was lucky enough to see Tower of Power twice in my life...they were SO TIGHT! Love the way Daryl is smilin so big when they start to play. That is how I always felt, watching them and seeing them....
Lest we not forget that the fantastically talented Boz Skaggs once played with the legendary Steve Miller Band, along with a lesser known but just as talented guy by the name of Norton Buffalo! I loved them all & still do to this day! I am 68 & all these guys keep me young at heart! Peace & Love & Rock & Roll music!
true artists that love what each other's talents are and totally enjoy jammin together,, pure joy to listen to and see the humility and respect they have for each other LOVE IT .
Wouldn't it be awesome to see the Tower Of Power horn section in this band ! These guys did a great job, great lineup, this IS the best version of this song!!
Funnily enough my wife, friends and I met AWB in a hotel after seeing them gig with Hall & Oates and Mike McDonald, Albany about 2005 if I remember. Pure fluke they were in the same hotel. Wonderful, invited us for a drink. Proper old school, and they made it a night to remember for us - great gig also. Legends.
Daryl's House what a happening place who wouldn't want to spend a day there listening to such amazing talent performing and having a great time doing it!!!

You've gotta admit, we were pretty lucky to have grown up listening to AWG, EWF, Wild Cherry, Tower of Power, War, Chicago, etc.

What a life: playing great music at home with friends who are also excellent musicians. Daryl looks like he's having a blast.
I had a blast seeing AWB at the Hollywood Bowl in 1976. I was flushed to the stage.
My old band toured with The AWB many years ago. Fun times and great memories. The guys were all cool.
