Still trying to learn how to use Radar for BVR and it takes forever - so I just enjoy jumping in the F-86 or MiG-15 because they're good-old fashioned subsonic, guns-only fighters. Plus, the modules are superb to fly.
I love your videos, you’ve inspired me too learn how to dogfight in DCS. I like that you do a tacview break down, it helps me learn and get better at dogfighting every day. Keep up the good work 👍
Another great video, thanks. I've learned so much about air-air combat from your videos, keep up the good work. Just a small comment though, I think it's more accurate to say slow rather than heavy when talking about the cannons. Sure, the 37mm is both heavy and slow, but the speed is relative to the amount of propellant used. The 30mm in the Mirage is "slow" at ~800m/s, while the 30mm in the Rafale is fast at ~1000m/s for the same shell weight.
The planes are similar BUT te F86 had radar ranging which put the 50 cal. bullets on target, at the first pull of the trigger! Later the F86 pilot was wearing an anti- G set that allowed him to pull more gs in a turn a and for a longer duration. Better training for the F86 pi.ots made difference also!
Yes and no its moonlight sonata played over clair de lune by debussy. First movement from beethoven is overlaid the second movement of clair de lune. Both are written about the moonlight.

In a MiG-15 due to it's lower wing loading and superior climb rate, you should be engaging in an Energy fight (ie Boom-n-Zoom). Yevgeny Pepelyayev stated that the MiG-15 should avoid a horizontal turning fight against a Sabre due to the Sabre's all-moving tail and better pitch authority.
As a Canadian it would be fun to see how the Mig does against the Canadair f86 series 6. Rough characteristics, higher speed, higher climb, altitude. similar weight to thrust, lower wing loading for the F86
It’s really good to see you using different airframes for dogfights as opposed to the usual F-18, F-16 and the like. Can you do any of the less seen ones at all?
15:40 a good way to reverse the turn would be to go a bit up before the reversal so when you do reverse you point the nose low so you don't just reverse on the same altitude if you know what i mean
I watched this video on a 55-inch sceen and the flying scenes are beautiful. Best so far from what I´ve seen on this channel (haven´t seen everything). Maybe the winter landscape helps as well as no afterburners. More flying and less "brutality" in a way, maybe even compared to the propeller driven planes. There´s a few videos where Bob Hoover is flying the F-86F at an airshow and it reminds me of this.
I wonder if they modelled the fact that, at high speeds, the MiG became almost impossible to maneuver because of the non-power boosted controls? Once the US learned that the 86 rarely lost the fight.
I have heard that the F86 would dive from high elevation to entice the MiG to follow so the MiG’s canopy to fog up and they could not see and be an easy target. Do not know if that was a true thing but sounds like a cool tactic.
I remember watching a programme on a matchup between these two planes saying they're were very evenly matched. It did point out an important difference being the superior environmental control in the F-86. The cockpit of the Mig would tend to fog up when coming down from high altitude which would impair the pilot's view and leave him vulnerable. Does this simulator model these sorts of effects?
Great video. I love the slowmo ordnance replays (gun and missile) you've been doing. With the Mig's 37mm canon, does every visible round equal one round fired? It sounds like it, but I know with other canons, for every visible tracer there are a larger number of actual rounds. Cheers
I think the Sabre pilot made a fundamental mistake. When Sabre speed gets lower than .7 Mach, pilot should extend and gets faster than MIG-15. If MIG-15 pursuits it, Sabre got more energy and can use it to fight back, if it doesn't, Sabre can catch it with the extra speed, unless MIG-15 has started to climb. MIG-15 max speed is slower than Sabre due to its tail drag but it has a better trust/weight ratio, so it can speed up faster than the Sabre at lower speed allowing it to catch the Sabre. Those duels last to last fume of fuel
That was an amazing fight with awesome narration! What do you mean by "rate fight" and " one/two circle"? new to the channel and aerial battles. Thanks!
hey man thank you, I will explain those in later videos in the tacview i'll spend a little more time explaining those more basic concepts for newer people.

Good day to you. I am a big fan of all air craft and I stumbled across your channel. I am thinking about downloading the game but I notice you talk about mods for aircraft. May I ask where these mods can be found?
I thought the mig-15 was also equipped with 2x 23mm cannons as well as the 1x 37mm. Are the 23’s in DCS not modeled in? Or is there a separate trigger for the dual 23’s?
If its a mig15bis you could keep a vertical spiral and he will lose speed really fast then you come out on top with more energy, not exactly what happens every time but just a thought
Amateur question: when talking rate fight, am i accurate saying thats when your purley controling speed & energy in a turn circle to gain position without trying to pull nose agressivly on opponent, rather than a one circle where you are coming out of merge & pulling more agressivly meeting each other in another eventual merge? Just trying to clarify cos both versions you seem to be turning in a one circle direction & curious when one becomes the other. Thanks
Rate fight is basically how many degrees per second u can turn while maintaining air speed. Basically a better rate fighter will just turn around in a circle faster than its opponent and eventually end up behind them. This is different to say a nose position fight where ur basically trying to swing your nose around as fast as possible. Rate fights can also be a one circle but it isnt as common as a one circle nose position fight.
The piano song is a slightly customized version of Beethoven moonlight sonata, imma go check what movement it is. Edit (help from another comment): Its the the first movement with the second movement played together over the first.
Why to get into circle fight? The siber is faster, why not to take the fight to higher alt then dive on the mig using energy and again, pull up and dive. From what i read about the mig 15 and 17, they were best in maneuvers up to 3000 ft. Above that the plane became heavyer and harder to maneuver
I heard the F86 had hydraulic flight controls, and was a heavier aircraft, so was better in a dive. And the M15 was more of an interceptor, was good in a climb, higher service ceiling. So the F86 guys would try and get M15 to follow in the dive, get to transonic speed, and pull out, or the M15 wouldn't even follow. I also thought the F86 had better radar guided guns. Correct me if wrong. Also F86 better maneuverability at low altitude, so your opponent not a good pilot, even with G-suit. Again, correct if wrong.
(yes re gunsight but in practice in dcs for a skilled pilot that makes little dif)The MiG had a better climbing rate (and a higher ceiling than the F-86) and could also turn more sharply. The f86 has a better roll rate, can dive better (heavier) and has better high speed maneuverability (less lockup). I think pilot skills make the dif in DCS between these two. As shown in this video the Mig t F86 mistake was trying to turn with Mig on the deck. Need to keep that energy up in the F-86
The thing is: their armament is the wrong way around. The cannons of the mig need fewer rounds on target so they should be better for snapshots in a 1 circle, but the plane does better in a 2 circle. The .50 of the sabre need more time on target so they should be better in a 2 circle (I think), yet the plane performs better in a 1 circle. I wish we got the 20mm version on the f86, or that the Korean war jets will get the same dm upgrades as the warbirds. I hope I didn't mess anything up xD
@@Robert53area As a side note, the J29 Tunnan first flown in 1948 was active during the same time period as the F-86 and Mig-15 and all three had roughly similar performance and somewhat similar looks with swept wings, air intake in the nose etc. Tunnan had 4x 20 mm Hispano mk5 as standard armament under the nose and the later versions also had afterburner and early sidewinders AIM-9B (F-model of J29). To my eye it looks like the Focke-Wulf Ta 183 was an inspirational source for all of them, but for the J29 drawings from the Messerschmitt P. 1101-derivates found in Switzerland after the war are mentioned.
