Amazing, I never even imagined TR2 had such an interesting story and that the art design actually had such symbolism behind it. Thank you so much for putting the time to make this video.
Another amazing video! The voice work in particular is really phenomenal in this one! Many kudos to Jenni Milward! She does an excellent job setting the tone. ...But also great work in general! You are incredibly talented, and I thoroughly enjoyed this! 👍
Amazing that this is compiled and finished by one person. I can't imagine the work that's gone into it. Thoroughly enjoyable and educational. I cannot wait for the next episode. I enjoy the cinematic, movie like adventure it takes you on.
I think it's a shame that the original story never went this in depth. It's wonderful! Lara was an archeologist and this is why she was interested in the artefacts. Your work really gives the old games a new lease of life and exposes the secrets that I couldn't see. I'd love it if this depth was actually used in some of the new games and focused on the adventure instead of the mindless shooting and jumping game-play. This is what Tomb Raider has always been about. Great work!
Argh, you put the outtakes in at the end x'D Wonderful stuff, my friend. Really enjoying your videos, and it was an honour and a pleasure to be involved
Great work! I love the voice, its really like watching a british documentary. She also sounds a bit like Lara 😁So much research had been done.. shame we dodnt know anything while playing TR2 back then, the creators efforts went unnoticed, maybe because the gane had zero commentary or description. Someone pointed the bloopers at the end, thanks!
The algorithm finally blessed me with this series. I've been a huge fan of TR since I played the original as a kid, and I am absolutely loving the added historical context of these locations throughout the series. A must-watch for any Tomb Raider fan
I love the backstory of Lara inherited her house from her aunt. I imagine her aunt was the original Lara Croft who went on adventures in wartime and taught Lara everything she knows, and they were both disowned by the Croft family. I'm writing it in my head now 😆
From 1:05:00 onward, that theory actually really resonates with me on a big level. The more I play Temple of Xian and Floating Islands, the more sense it makes. Just the music on the background, with all the whispers and stuff and her slow decent to increasing madness (Xian starts rather normal and gets more messed up progressively, then Floating Islands is just a big fat question mark) - I really believe in that variation of the story. Maybe not completely as you said it, but more like the Xian soldiers are just regular Bartoli henchmen that she sees as something supernatural at that point. Thanks for the video - Stellar work. It made me love a game that's already very dear to me even more.
The voice of the lady ... pure gold!!! So smooth and relaxing to listen!!! Those documentaries aside from being very informative actually help me fall asleep. Mesmerizing!
You've once again done an outstanding job, my friend. You can once again truly see the attention you've put into it all all the other collaborators with it. Can't wait to see the third one, nor the fourth one, heck, let's just say THE REST! Marvelous! Really, I loved every second of it and was literally dragged into the story!
Finally, I watched the video as a whole without interruption! Took me few months but it was definitely worthy! :D Ah, I loved this!!! :D :D From the editing, music, narration till the bloopers at the end :D
This really clears up the curiosities I had as a kid about the Maria Doria. I thought it was so weird that certain portions were not flooded, and the deck level was basically in a cave.
These videos are beautifully brilliant. Stellar narration by Jenni and rhe soundtrack is amazing. Excellent geographic and mythological research too. Cultural anthropologists rejoice! 🤗
This was such a joy to watch. I'm playing through the remaster and its reignited ny curiosity about the lore around the game. So seeing such an in depth take on it all gave me exactly what i was looking for. Thank you

I've just uploaded spanish subtitles for the video. I've loved the first video and this game, Tomb Raider II, is my favourite. So I couldn't resist to contribute with my work.
This was very informative and made the game look more beautiful. The possibility of Lara being hallucinating was mind blowing and interesting. Plus, I just love Jenni's voice, reminds me so much of Lara's voice in TR2/3, which is one of my favorites. And what a lovely surprise the bloopers at the end lol. Can't wait for you to do one for Tomb Raider 3.
13:10 the cause for the sinking of the Maria Doriah is actually known: In a cutscene at the end of the Diving Area, a monk tells Lara, that his ancestors sank the Maria Doriah, so Gianni couldn't come closer to his goal of getting the dagger.
I love these videos! It's like I'm playing through the game, but with Lara making commentaries in the background heehee! Thanks for making these!! Loved the bloopers in the end too :D :D So darn cute!
I seriously never imagined how much genuine research and historical knowledge went into the Tomb Raider games, especially TR2. The small details (such as the deer statues next to the large prayer wheel) just blew my mind. Makes me even more impressed with the games! Thank you so much for these fantastic videos.
Very interesting, I've made the same kind of video without knowing the existence of this one, it makes another result and point of view, that's so cool :) TY
Looking forward to the one for TR3. Though this one was particularly interesting seeing that I never played TR2 first time around. Enjoyed the bloopers at the end too!
I find these episodes so fascinating! As you know I'm a huge fan of this series and again it's managed to capture me from the first second and in what felt like a minute I found myself at the end. Brilliant work :)
I remember the first time I played TR2 being in awe of the game’s story and various settings. So it goes without saying that the amount of work you have put in creating these videos is incredible. It has given me such an appreciation of the depth of these games and what Core Design originally may have had in mind during development. I’m really looking forward to your TR3 video as it’s another one of my favorites.
Absolutely love this series! It's so well researched and well made, the only failing is that there are only two episodes 😉 can't wait for episode 3, amazing work!
What a lovely video about the history and context of what could have inspired the game.. The research, the video, and the voiceover was great.. And I liked the blooper reel at the end lol.

All the work you have put into this has really paid off! Honestly, this is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Everything about this series so far has been perfect: the music, the narrating, and the surprising amount of historical and mythological accuracy. I do have one question though; do you plan to only cover the games made by Core, or are you making episodes for the Crystal Dynamics games as well (including the 2013 reboot series)?
Hello, a year ago I've found the first episode, now I see You've done a next one but it is already quite some time ago. I agree with others that they are very well professionally made. Is work on the third episode already in progress? :-)

@@SimonBucherHistory It is truly grand. And so happy you used the original game for it. It's the biggest flaw with youtube that low effort, marketable, high quantity videos get all the attention. While true effort is unnoticed. I'd be interested especially in 4, Legend and Underworld, because those, to me, have the most interesting lore behind them.
This documentary of Tomb Raider is beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️. I’ve only learned now that some of the symbols and history they put in this game are closely related to each other, and I also missed checking the symbol on the ceiling of the Temple of Xian, right on top of the dagger. I was so focused on the dagger back then🤣❤️. A lot of thanks for explaining the possibility of red mercury occupying the place, as I last thought of these as magma only🤣❤️. The last part where she enters the Floating Islands and facing the Dragon might very well be associated with her hallucination of the place. But I can never tell at all. Her classic adventures usually put her facing against mythical creatures that were brought to life at present (1997 for Lara), hence most of her encounters can also be just supernatural too😅👍❤️. But if this was indeed just a hallucination, then it must have been really scary for Lara. Glad she wasn’t fazed by it. Only the developers know the truth. But by whatever means, Core Design achieved the moment where Tomb Raider is extremely surreal, dark, frightening (the sounds, music and graphical design are so wonderful❤️), but counteracted by action adventure, cerebral solving with puzzles, hard platforming, and Lara’s sheer strength and courage. I was only able to play the Tomb Raider video game saga on 2018 (I was 17 that time), and I first started with the classics following the games in chronology until the present. But I found this to be still the best TR game among them all (only my opinion). The efforts the developers poured in this game are so genuine, it must have really hurt for them to make it before the deadline every year, but they made it😭❤️. Thank you Core Design❤️❤️❤️. (But I still believe Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics can make beautiful TR games just like this one, the future is always uncertain.) Jenni Milward is so chill and calming as she narrated!❤️😭. I love it. She can definitely make the perfect voice for Lara Croft in the future.❤️❤️❤️.

(But I still believe Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics can make beautiful TR games just like this one, the future is always uncertain.)
Jenni Milward is so chill and calming as she narrated!❤️😭. I love it. She can definitely make the perfect voice for Lara Croft in the future.❤️❤️❤️.
Thank you so much for your beautiful comment, Reinhardt! I really appreciate your thoughtful words. I'm happy you enjoyed the documentary!
