    I guess you would need to put inflatable furniture upstairs since there is no apparent access to the second floor other than the staircase. A example of a Filipino architect thinking outside the box without thinking about the box. Many nice features that balance out the questionable ones. Thanks Ned

      The triangle roof already fucked it all up. And the staircase is never for elderly or chronic drunk.

    5:20---The 'Dust on the tile' is actually the residue from the grouting! You apply the grout, and wash off the excess, leaving the 'Dust'!

    • @mbahomeimprovement
      @mbahomeimprovement 4 года назад

      95% of tile setters are slackers. Rarely do they buff out the tiles the next day to remove the grout film on the actual tile and let alone they applying grout sealer. Apply grout sealer actually helps remove some of the film on the tiles. I always used a big cotton towel after the sealer was applied.

    Will the Philippine’s building industry ever use insulation ?

    • @ZebraFacts
      @ZebraFacts 4 года назад

      Actually, they are in many places. The problem is that most use that thin hardback foam insulation. I have seen the very thick yellow fiberglass insulation in some commercial new construction. I once spoke to a government official about alternative insulation. The Philippines is concerned about global warming. They do understand that people living near the coastal areas will be forced to move inland and up, in the near future. I had an idea of using banana plants just as they are doing in making ropes and other things. We discussed using coconut husk, but he said that material burns at a lower temperature than banana plants. He was very intrigued by the banana suggestion and told me that the government may look into that. He suggested I write to their department and if they decided to try it, they may do it for free if I would let them experiment on my house. I never followed it up, so I don't know if that idea went anywhere. I think it is a cheaper alternative and more accessible for lower-income homeowners.

      In some ways, I think Filipino builders are trying to mimic the US, but it is like they saw a picture and guessed the rest. I even visited a subdivision that had an Orange County, California name, and they claimed it was designed exactly after that Orange, California style of homes. I told the real estate agent I had been to Orange, county many times and there were no homes like that there. She insisted (as if someone that's been to Orange county many times, knows less than she does). That said, it was a nice community. They should have just claimed it as their own design.

I feared I would get hurt. Sure enough, before our vacation was up, my granddaughter fell down a few steps and hit her head on one of the tiled steps. She slightly cut her head. If my daughter was not standing next to her, that accident may have been much worse than the cut and bruise she ended up with. Why would you make stairs at a 20-degree angle and with a slick six-inch wide tile?

The family room is not used often. In the Philippines, my ancestral home was built and can accommodate 50 family members. 7 rooms, 3 baths and 2 guest houses with 3 rooms and 2 baths each. Instead I would stay in our nipa and bamboo beach house with only a big room and an out house with shower. I sleep and dine on the bamboo floor for weeks. I don't even drive, I take the bus or jeepney. Just simple living. I eat using my hands. We got chickens, ducks, pigs, goats, vegetables, fruits and dogs. I don't miss grocery stores of Walmart, WinCo or Ralphs. For an ugly house with high concrete walls like that I'm will be grateful.

    That's the first time I have seen the shower before the toilet. Makes even less sense than the no separation between the shower and the rest of the room. So, you walk in the bathroom to use the toilet or sink and your socks, shoes or just your feet will be wet after someone has taken a shower. I just don't get it! I suspect what is happening is that you will notice that the Philippines is kind of like going back in time, in comparison to the Western world. In many ways, that is a good thing, but in other things like the wet bathroom, it isn't so good. Not to worry though. It has been my experience that everyone wants to be like America. They will (unfortunately) catch up with us very soon.
    I know it was almost 6 years ago, but I rented a two-story, three-bed, maids quarters, laundry room, carport in a gated subdivision with security for $310 per month. And that was in Bacoor, Cavite, Metro Manila.

  • @craiggilleland

    Typical Filipino construction. They cut corners everywhere they can. Concrete block, probably with no rebar. No insulation in the walls or roof. The upstairs will be brutally hot with the brown roof and no insulation. They cut holes in the walls and install those noisy and inefficient window air conditioners. They will not cool properly and will cost a fortune to operate. An inverter split system will cost more upfront but you will recoup the cost in a lowered electric bill in one year. The windows and doors have gaps and are the cheapest single pane glass. The bars and the walls with barbed wire are a product of life in the Philippines. The widow maker hot water showers are typical. The camp stove in the kitchen is unsafe and illegal in the USA for indoor use. Don't be surprised if the propane tank is under the counter, again unsafe and illegal in many western countries. Add to this that there is no bathroom upstairs, no closets, no grass, and the list goes on. $500 monthly may seem cheap until you realize where you're living and what you have to sacrifice. If you run all four of those air conditioners you may end up paying as much for electricity as you're paying in rent. It's always more fun in the Philippines!

    Lol, I actually like the bathrooms. I'd take a shower and spray down the bathroom at the same time. Clean myself and clean the bathroom. Yeah, my 350 pounds would destroy that upstairs floor.

      i bet if you open the windows at each end, set up a fan or two in front of each, get the air circulating, it wouldn’t be half bad!!! i would want my bedroom up there but no way to get the bed up, plus no CR....the designer had his head screwed on backwards!!!!

    2nd floor has amazing man cave/game room potential, but the roofing/insulation seems horrid. With that design (in an adequate climate controlled scenario) most of my time would be upstairs. Such potential lost😢😅
