Bolero just a nice pattern for more smooth lounge genre for me on two & three congas! Enjoyed this! Thanks for your shout out to me for not only do I look up to you for your playing but you spend time with your wife & son & always put God first that is important to me as well! Love also using Bolero in traditional music too so thanks for this video best one out there!
Hi, Eric, never commented on your videos before, but I love them, especially now, when I'm missing my weekly class in San Mateo with John Santos, due to COVIS-19 closures. Your video lessons help keep me active on the drums. Glad your family is safe. I really enjoyed this bolero. I knew the original pattern, learned it way back in NYC, but your 3 drum variation is sweet. Really shows off the melodic quality that can be intertwined with rhythm on congas. And you are very clear and patient in explaining how you do it, and count it out. Also, your good cheer and love of the instrument and rhythms really comes through. Just have to add, that I really loved your video on the Armando Peraza tumbao. Got to meet Armando a couple of times, and he actually listened to me play, which was a thrill. Thanks, Eric. Alex in San Francisco
This is amazing. The Manito skins are a whole new sound. Have them on my bongos and will likely put them on my congas as well. Thanks for your expertise!
Hi Eric. Glad you and family are well. Just coming back from a heart attack but back on the congas. Love this lesson, you nail the feel. Your videos have been an inspiration for me to get back to my congas ASAP. Thanks brother and God bless you and your family. CONGA JACK.
Tu vas a vivir para siempre, I can't believe that you loaded this just yesterday 4/15 I was thinking man if big "E" would show a bolero patern and whoop there it is;gracias Pá
I’m learning and practicing everyday with you. Would you please make another clip for the last variation and fantasy part that I hear like cascarada. I want to learn the order of hands playing. Thanks
Please show us some adornos for the bolero on congas (la tumbadora y la conga) . Great video...this is how I learned it as well but struggling to get those adornos incorporated into the rhythm. Gracias.
Fantastic tutorial Eric!!! I've been watching your videos for years. Here's in idea. Could you take a rhythmic pattern, like the Bolero and apply it to a real time music application for about a minute within the same tutorial lesson. The way Jerry Gonzalez used to record his instructional videos. Then we can see how the pattern fits with the musical structure.
Thanks Eric, this is great. I've enjoyed your collaborations with WDC, and I'm glad they led me to your channel. Learning a lot as I work through your videos, very helpful for a musician who only just recently discovered a knack for percussion. The way you lay out your tutorials is awesome, great beat breakdowns! Thanks for everything, you and yours stay safe and healthy!
I love playing bolero, a really good song that makes every little move fit just perfect with the patterns of the bongó and conga, plus a great singer and lyrics to top it off and I can play that all night long if they want me to. Your variation is encendida 🔥, some directors will throw his shoe at us if we don't play bolero in a complete ostinato from start to finish, but hey... we can learn to dodge 😜
"Man that is beautiful! You got to love, love it!". Eric, your videos, sound recording and quality lessons are congademic. If you have time, could you please tell me what conga brand you play and thoses beautiful sounding skins? All best to you and family.
Eric, I'm a new subscriber and love your channel. Could you share with us how you mic'd your congas to pick up that bass strike so well? The sound is fantastic! keep up the good work!
what are some good congas that i can buy as a suggestion, im 16 yrs old and i really love your videos and just the beautiful sound of salsa vivie puerto rico
Eric , I'm a new subscriber and really love your content and style of teaching. I have a question for someone who is intermediate at best doing play along Latin Jazz and Salsa in my Garage and playing occasionally with friends what is the traditional order to set up 3 drum positions? for a right handed player. I am confused because I've seen different people do different things. Is the quinto between my legs or to my left? Thanks for your help.

Love the video @ericperez. For my church I do the bolero a lot for slow worship songs and every once in a while I add the "bongo" fills to it.

You are the man amigo, never though I could add a third drum....or maybe I did but .....you know....jaja stay safe!
I have a couple of variations on 3 but didn’t want to get controversial because it should normally be played on just 2 haha thank you Fausto!

hahaha exactly... I do that 3rd drum here and there but never as a constant groove... I'd get fired with the quickness haha
That bass thooo, man really nice job on the audio production here. Just overheads? Also, I love the three-drum variation. Saludos, tocayo.
Nice and creative variation.
You’re the man Eric can you do a video showing off all your instruments

interesting very good
Thanks Eric - I like the variations. Do you have a special pattern for guajira, or do you just use the son montuno pattern?
I plan on showing a guajira variation very soon.. but it's similar to a Montuno pattern
Gracias Eric ojalá retomes los videos en español saludos desde CDMX
Could one pull off a bolero on R&B/Pop songs? Examples? Thx!

Erick los cueros de tus congas son sintéticos?
