      What gain is there to us up 25% of your mirror to see your car. Much better to see more to your right by 25%. No wonder the majority drivers have blind spots.

    when training as a pdi i was always taught the horizon should be mid height in the mirror but ive always preferred to have my mirrors tilted slightly down with the horizon a bit higher as in this video as it still allows you to see way back up the road but the slight downwards tilt also helps you see things like the kerb which is particularly helpful on certain manouevres so you dont need to re adjust your mirrors

    There's two ways to set up your door mirrors. One which eliminates blind spots (however, you won't be able to see your own vehicle in the mirror, unless you lean to the respective side). And one which does not eliminate blind spots (the method in this video). However, you should move your mirror more towards the right. You're still seeing more car than you need to. You really just need to see a tiny bit. And second, you're mirror is tilted down too much. The horizon should be about in the middle of the mirror. Maybe a bit higher than the middle, but just a bit. The horizon is way higher than it needs to be on your mirror.

    • @ashley_neal

    • @benalias5766
      @benalias5766 4 года назад +2

      The part of the mirror on the outside of that line is likely a wider-angled section (eg more convex in the horizontal plane) intended to reduce the blind spot.

    One of the rare times I have watched one of your vids that I somewhat disagree. If you can see the side of your car, you have over-large blind spots on your sides. I adjust my mirrors so as a vehicle, say, overtaking, is leaving my view in the center mirror, it is entering my field of view in the appropriate side mirror. There is professional opinion that supports this, I could try to find a reference if anyone is interested. I always try to drive so folks are not forced to overtake on my off-hand side, nope not illegal to pass on passenger in all jurisdictions, it should be,

  • @JohnM...
    @JohnM... 5 лет назад

    If you're 6 feet tall, and have a 3 door corsa, you cannot see out of the driver's mirror ( unless you want your knees against the damn dash), as it won't move any further. Hell, I had to get 2 blindspot mirrors!

  • @saundersdachicken6197
    @saundersdachicken6197 7 месяцев назад

    Ask any traffic police officer is that the way they set their mirrors and they will tell you that's not the proper way. They'll tell you the correct way is to set them that you will not be able to see the side of your car. If you have to see it then you just need to bit of head movement. That the correct way.

    I've had so many lessons and 3 instructors now. Not one of them has advised this but it makes complete sense to me. If I ever asked it'd always be; "Half 'n half" which, as you say just shows loads of useless sky.
    I'm really struggling with reverse bay parking and seeing the lines to confirm if I'm in or not. Faffing around with dropping the mirrors and remembering to return them has added an extra layer of complexity and worry. I understand that if I resume normal driving with the mirrors pointed towards the floor that's an immediate fail.
    As a passenger I always wondered why I never saw anyone else dropping their mirrors during the manoeuvre and wondered what was wrong with me. Hopefully this is the answer.
    Test tomorrow. Hopefully I pass.

    I don’t understand why people feel the need to see in their side mirrors what they can already see in their rear view mirror. The proper way to set side mirrors is to have just a little overlap with the rear view mirror. You do not want to see the side of your car, as that indicates you’re seeing what your rear view can see.

    No need to see the car in the side mirrors. If anything, you only need a teeny tiny sliver. you don't need to see the rear handles. That way creates blind spots.

    • @MrJohnny3shoes
      @MrJohnny3shoes Год назад +1

      I set them that sitting in an upright position the closest you can see is just less than the width of a bicycle from the back right of my car. This gives you a much wider view to see cars to your right. Seeing any of your car is no advantage whatsoever. . If you're moving to the right or left, parking, reversing, you move your head and body. Without realising it people do it.

    I would not recommend this setup. Side mirrors should see only a little bit of the car, and the horizon should be in the middle. Your setup is looking too much at the ground. It's good for parking but not good at fighting blind spots

    Im having driving lessons atm and this works really well on the drivers side but on the passenger side cant see both the door handle and horizon at the same time as i need the mirror pointed to far down. This messes up most reference points for parking (The car must be bent or something) but jokes aside im having a hard time with it.
