This was by far the easiest step for this whole reno so far because I had help and because we weren't moving heavy material, like sand, or digging trenches. Thank you for watching!
Looking forward to this process. I didn't know that sprigging was even a thing. I was thinking more on the line of plugs so this is very interesting to watch.
Sprigging is how we establish Hybrid Tifton Bermuda grass because with a Hybrid the seed are sterile, and the field is to be harvested to sell as Baled hay, We have a digger exactly like the one you show but the planter is made to open a small trench, the planter flips the sprigs in the trench, where two disk type furrow fillers cover the sprigs followed by a tire to pack the dirt..... We also use a roller to smooth the surface, so harvesting equip can move faster,,,, We do Acres not Square Feet..... Sprigging a field usually takes 2 years before a respectable amount of hay can be harvested.......
I'm over in Jefferson City, with a beautiful fescue lawn. After my battle with common bermuda, I have conflicting emotions about seeing you intentionally growing Bermuda in your lawn. That being said, I am excited for you and looking forward to seeing the transformation.
I was torn about killing off the fescue at the beginning of the year because it looked great but then I reminded myself of how awesome the Bermuda is going to look with much less inputs from fertilizer, fungicides, and water compared to the tall fescue. I made a common Bermuda patch look awesome, when I lived in Valley Park, MO. I too am excited to watch this transformation. Thank you for watching!
I wish I could be there to help you guys. I hope all goes as planned this weekend for you guys. No hiccups. Looking forward to hearing and seeing about it all coming together for you guys.
Sorry I've been busy. I'm gonna try to record a progress video this weekend. In the mean time you can view the latest short video I posted a few days ago where you can see a good degree of the progress.
Yes, an update is long overdue. My apologies. Life has been kicking my ass lately so I haven't been able to get to it. I will try to get one out within the next week. If you're on Instagram you can check out some of the photos I've been posting on there, as it's a little easier and faster for me to post on there more frequent. Thank you for your support and patience.
I know. I plan to try to do an update video before the end of the season. This RUclips thing is a hobby of mine and lately more important things have taken priority. I appreciate you commenting. Since sprigging, the grow in went really well. I have been posting more frequent updates on my Instagram account as it is much easier to post a picture of how things are doing there but I do still plan to try to make an update video before the end of the season. Thanks again for the support!
Maybe I just don't get it but... ARE YOU NUTS?! I watched a couple of your videos when you first moved in and you were soil testing and tweeking your lawn. That was the most beautifully lush, uniform green lawn I've ever seen. Most anyone would die to have a lawn like that. So, it confounds me to no end wondering why you're doing what you're doing now. Whatever it is, good luck to ya.
I can see why you would question me renovating this area of my lawn but in order to keep the tall fescue looking as good as it did for most of the season it required a lot of inputs with fungicides, water, and fertilizer. Switching to this elite iron cutter bermuda will allow me to keep the lawn looking a lot nicer at a lower cost because I won't need to apply fungicides on it and it also requires less water and fertilizer. Thank you for watching!

Hi, I'm sorry if I missed it but how much does it cost to get that much sprigs? Do you think you could have done a lesser amount of sprigs and still get good results, eventually?
@@TheAMVDJ I paid $3/bushel and bought 200 bushels so it was a little over $600 after tax. You can use a lower rate of bushels, you'll just have a longer grow in period.

Good job 👍keep us updated
Thank you! Will do!
Looking forward to seeing how it fills in. Loved watching the series. Happy early Fathers Day Ben and all other Fathers out there.
Thank you, Jeff! Happy early Fathers Day to you as well! I've had fun putting this series together, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
That was way easier than I expected. Can’t wait for results. Nice Ben

So cool to see the lawn care community come together to help out one of their brothers.
It was really nice to have these guys come help and to hang out for a bit in the lawn.

Thanks, Keith! It's definitely a unique way of growing grass. I'm really looking forward to this all filling in!

This is a very different breed of Bermuda.

Can’t wait to watch them grow in
You and me both!
great progress Ben - Ive never seen it done this way .
Thank you! How have you seen it done before?
@@TheLawnGuardian I’ve seen putting plugs in the ground only but that would be a lot for your project
If you're anywhere near St.Charles county, I totally would have helped too! Can't wait to see the results!
Awesome! Where in St. Charles are you? Thanks for watching and the support!
Sweet! Can’t wait to see it in a couple months.
It's gonna be awesome! There will be a huge difference 4 weeks in.
Well done fellas! Can't wait to see take root and fill in.
You and me both. We're 11 days in as of today and all things are looking good!
Your killing me! Ready for an update on sprigging job. Never seen that done like that before and awaiting the results, good or bad.

I hope those cool season boys threw their shoes away when they got home🤣. Can’t wait for the spreading to begin
I made sure to hide some sprigs in their cars. 😉 We're 12 days out right now and it's about to go full throttle! Things are looking really good.
@@TheLawnGuardian haha. Won’t be long now. Almost time to enjoy the fruits of your labor

Wish I could have made it, I'll help out when you decide to do the remaining backyard 😉
It's a date.
Can you come do this for my yard please! Very nice.
Could you put a tackifier or something on top of them to help keep them in place in case of hard rain?
Need to see an update on this 😢

@@TheLawnGuardianchecked out and followed you on instagram. Project turned out great!!
I wonder if a thin layer of sand over the sprigs after rolling, would help hold moisture or smother the sprigs.
You can do that, you just have to be careful not to smother them.
how much water you give the first weeks? is hot summer here

Is Illinois the the only place you can get iron cutter sprigs? Just curious
There are other sod farms around the country that have it. Not sure which ones but I know it's available in other places.
💪🏽‼️

Just dont think about your coming water bill, going to look amazing in about 6 to 10 weeks time.
I'm not worried about it. It's just part of the process.
@@TheLawnGuardian 100% it is worth it compared to buying all that expensive sod.
