  • Here's a step-by-step guide on how to register a song with BMI, a global leader in music rights management, serving as an advocate for the value of music. BMI represents the public performance rights in over 20.6 million musical works created and owned by more than 1.3 million songwriters, composers, and music publishers.
    BMI royalties are performing right royalties, which are earned when a musical work is performed publicly. Public performance occurs when a song is sung or played, recorded or live, on radio and television, as well as through other media such as Internet streaming services, live concerts, and programmed music services. BMI grants licenses to perform, use, or broadcast music from its extensive repertoire to hundreds of thousands of users of music in public places, such as radio and tv stations, hotels, clubs, colleges, restaurants, stores, and more.

      @@musicbyazuma Thanks for the response! Just a heads up, the BMI training video says you can not update later via the online portal, you have to email them and asking someone to update it for you. Also, it was interesting to find if you save the BMI data on their site before marking the 'works data' complete, it will let you modify almost all the info except this one question. I wonder why this question exists, maybe due to DRM software since you might license your tracks to others? Or maybe they want to track film and tv stuff cause it often makes more money in royalties? Thoughts?

    • @musicbyazuma
      @musicbyazuma  8 месяцев назад

      I believe it's due to the necessity to get a cue sheet for that specific song. Which is another piece of metadata they would need to track.

    • @musicbyazuma
      @musicbyazuma  10 месяцев назад +1

      Depends on the deal. Registering with a PRO only gives you the writer/publisher's share of royalties generated from the "public performance" of your songs. You would need to talk to the artist about figuring out distribution royalties.
