The scenes from under the grader as the blade is working would have to be my favourite. It seems to satisfy some primitive satisfaction I get watching heavy machinery working.
You might add a stick of angle iron a few feet in front of the first drag with the chains running straight from it and the triangle chains going to the tractor. It will act as a spreader bar and keep the edges from curling up so far and leave a more level finish.
We always used a power pole or section of railroad track as a drag behind our tilling implements on the farm. I doubt it's a problem by any means but the track was lifting on the ends due to the pulling on the chains a 3 inch channel iron welded to the top of the track would fix that right up. Got the A team at the end. Great work Chris it should work out awesome for them.
In the UK, we call that effect 'hazelling off', where the bright, glossy sheen that is produced by a plough working soil is gradually lost to be replaced by a dull, matt colour, which is an indication that the soil is 'fit' for further cultivation, discing, etc. I'm glad to see you weren't greedy when you were screening that topsoil by introducing a shredder into the system, if you had, the clay content in the reject pile would have been included in the topsoil pile and this job would have had a much different outcome.
My experience with hauling topsoil has been digging out the doghouse in the bed every 3 loads because it sticks so bad. Good to see you didn't have that problem.
brenda pitts Wet top soil won’t tailgate. Heck. Dry top soil won’t tailgate well either. There are machines made for top dressing but it would take a lot to build up 2” of soil.
@@Crewsy I think brenda meant for the truck driver to simply pull forward as he was dumping, as then it would have spread out in a line/row more, instead of a big pile. That's what I would have done (as an old dump truck driver myself). And they are not delivering wet top soil that is gotten from under a tarp (it is moist non dusty topsoil being delivered).
Dammit Man !! lolol..Rain just had to ruin it...Gonna turn out Great though, what you had done looked really, really good !! Hey !! Chris your gonna have to go back after the grass has come up , and go out there when they are flying some of those Bad Ass R/C Planes !! That will be pretty cool to watch...Have a Great Evening Man......
It would be really cool if you could make playlists of the different projects from start to finish, especially when you jump from job to job and back and forth.
Great job on the airport. I’ve always liked the stingers compared to a straight mold board, in my opinion I think using stingers in that wet dirt would of mixed it better ( but grading wet dirt usually isn’t easy anyway) because the stingers will spin rolling the dirt better but that’s just my opinion. Either way great job....
@@ljfinger, It's dirt cheap...after you crash the first 4-5 planes ! Then there's all the upgrading after you get bored with planes 6-10. After all that, it finally becomes affordable, lol !!
Nice grader work. The one machine I could never get to grips with. Some RC club. Wonder how much their fees are? We used a dragger much like that except the bars were set at an angle which moved some of the soil sideways somewhat. Thanks for the video.
I was always told that dirt with sawdust in it that was from hardwood would not grow grass very well so I am anxious to see if it actually will grow grass.
Please forgive my ignorance, but I've heard and seen these thing's called "Dirt Pulverizers" and for what you are doing. It may take the place of the motograder, rake, drag and box blade, when you first grade topsoil. As I understand it, it scrapes/rips or dig into the soil like a like a box blade, with ripping teeth, then 2 roller bars with blunted spikes break's and keeps the soil in place without compacting it. Leaving behind alluvial soil ready for grass seed planting. The pulverizer also covers any tracks from the tractor. Here's a link to what I'm talking about with it in use by another RUclipsr: PREVIEW 4:25 John Deere 1025r and Land Pride Soil Pulverizer RUclips · Tractor Time with Tim Apr 26, 2017
How does the drag work if you turn it over, looks like it would act somewhat like a rake, but smoother and maybe break up clumps more. (just a country girl from Maine farming area) Love your vids.
I’m kind of lost here. Spreading topsoil for a runway? Is this just going to stay this way? Is it going to be black top like the rest. Just curious, thanks
That's what I was figuring also pretty pricey for a R/C runway, but on the other hand , for example 100 members and each donated a couple hundred bucks, it's not so bad.
PLEASE CONSIDER getting a skidsteer sod cutter! You can make money on preserved sod, reuse, charge for sod preservation and stop struggling with thankless dozing, grading, loading and hauling scrambled sod.
Now I see the purpose of the finely screened soil!

I love that curl that comes off of the mouldboard.
You amaze me with every job you do ,keep up with the videos they make my day !!!!

that was purdy cool, Timmy leaving a wake with the skid steer :)
Draggin' that topsoil brings back memories of dragging various ballfields in my youth! Thanks for Sharing!!!!
Good old North Carolina weather. If you don't like it just give it a little while and it will change. Good job Chris.
A job well done. Thank you for sharing. Love the drone shots.

Top job again chris and u managed to use ur own dirt . Saved buying it in . That job looks great top quality again .
Nice job on the runway Chris. Looks perfect. Also nice spot To have a runway built.

Been watching your videos about 1 year now learning a lot keep them coming
Thank you for everything that you do keep up the good work

TIM is a good worker. Does a good job. WTG TIM .....
Tim is like his robin!!! Lol 😆
Well apart from the rain it all looks to be going just dandy bro, the right equipment is a big help too. Ya'll stay safe
Then again when it curls a bit it helps feather it in. Nice job.
Scrape off all the grass and top soil then haul in new topsoil and plant grass. I must have missed something. Still fun to watch.
The old runway was bumpy. They smoothed it out and are planting bermuda grass which should be nicer.. Think golf course fairway vs the rough.
Truck could tailgate save time
I thought they were paving it.

That dirt looks like premium garden dirt! 😁 Cant wait to see it when the grass comes in.
I love your videos, especially the drone shots. Thank you for sharing :-)
That screen made that topsoil awesome! Nice work Chris!
Your right about the soil, that is some sweet looking topsoil !
Enjoyed Chris very nice video of your operations,
Nice work Chris hope you are having a great weekend
it's going to be a big job getting that topsoil level enough for rc planes with their small wheels

So far, mighty fine sir!!
Hope you and your family are the same 👍
So close yet so far. Mother nature said not today Chris. Lol God bless
That soil deserves a far better home. ;-)
All that work and the rain and that some good looking dirt 👍😔
Must be very nice over there in US to have so much space available to build locations like that.
Yes that the screened dirt from the wood place ,lolo, nice, thanks BigAl California.

We need a time lapse of the grass growing.
"This is a problem" lol. I know how that feels.
20 loads of screened topsoil along with the grading that's one expensive hobby
It's actually a dirt-cheap hobby compared to many. Try motorcycle, snowmobile or automobile racing, or car collecting.
ljfinger there are people who spend that much on Rc airplanes, they are just crazy😂
buy a jeep and suddenly those rc are a bargain
@@imchris5000 agreed, spend more on fixing the damn things

Love all of his videos
Pretty rewarding to provide your own material I’d imagine
Slick it on up!
Wow! It looks like you took the top 5' of soil from my property and placed it there! Lol! (Eastern Nebraska, it all looks like that)
That reminded me of the chains that they drag around on baseball infields to smooth them out.
ive been waiting on a new video. love them even before i watch them

it grew grass really well on another job I took 20 loads to

Chris
You're a man of many machines and talents. 🤔😉
I wonder if they'll let you pilot one of those fancy RC planes ?
I gave you my solemn promise I will not tell Martha where her flower bed went
Another good video thanks for your time👍👌
Love the vids man love construction
nice job with that black gold
You could use a harley rake, I used one for ten years prepping yards for grass seed.
Looks very nice 😎🇺🇸
Chris, will the runway be seeded with a special seed so it can withstand being cut shorter than a normal lawn ? Thanks & thumbs up !
Bermuda grass
How does the drag work if you turn it over, looks like it would act somewhat like a rake, but smoother and maybe break up clumps more. (just a country girl from Maine farming area) Love your vids.
Now it will take 4 days to haul out all the equipment HA HA HA, But dang that looks good.
Spreading that Black Gold, they will have to mow grass every day. Looks good.
Now you need a Harley Rake for your skid steer .will bust up clods and level out very good.
Does that dirt look familiar? LOL Officer, I never saw that dirt before.
so once it dries out drag the whole area again to fill any areas washed out by the rain and it's done.
Sure hope to see that in a year, should be quite nice.
A spreader bar between the tractor and drag would keep the drag flat on the edges. And make your edges cleaner and sharper.
I’m kind of lost here. Spreading topsoil for a runway? Is this just going to stay this way? Is it going to be black top like the rest. Just curious, thanks
Going to get seeded so it becomes a grass runway. They might pave the extended one in the future.
Way off subject but what camera do you set behind you in the volvos. Thanks for the good videos
That's what I was figuring also pretty pricey for a R/C runway, but on the other hand , for example 100 members and each donated a couple hundred bucks, it's not so bad.
U do a good job with that stuff. I don’t know why the road graders don’t get more use. One of those rodeo things on back of tractor
I'll tell ya what, if there was ONE place to use a drone for footage, its at an RC Aircraft hobby site.
Let it rain until the soil turns to soup, then let it find its own level! :-)
But good work there Chris! Well done! :-)
Good job, this project would make a good follow up video in six months or a years time
So, is this runway for RC or will it be utilized for Ultralight and LSA aircraft?
Have you ever used or thought about getting a Harley rake for the skid steer?
Yes, topsoil and grading...
I thought I saw rocks in the top soil or was that clods. Any way fun to watch.
A-Team. Would be interested in seeing the Bermuda seeding. Love your channel.
those tracks work better than chain link fence for the finishing.
Love the videos - keep it up!!!
I bet the AC on the grader was working overtime 😉
Is that better than using a box blade on a tractor
You need a Harley Rake!
Hello from Chicago! I'm surprised on how many larger sized rocks are in the topsoil after the screening, wasn't expecting that. Is this normal?
Any rocks came from the dirt under it. There are a lot of dirt clods though.
its easy to have a really nice job when you set out to do everything right , to many people start out saying close enough and end up with trash
Damn man,I had to tell all the rioters “time out” I got a letsdig video watch! Thank you, back at it now
Chris enjoyed the video ,
Question: Why don't you turn around after each pass and work both directions. Saves a lot of time and gas.
it actually waste time, by the time you turn around, angle the blade and go I could be backed up and going again
It took around 50 seconds to back all the way up on two of those passes.
@@letsdig18 That's hard to believe letsdig18 but thanks for your reply.

Why did they want the strip of grass left by the runway?
They need it smooth like a golf course to be able to land.
A small bump can crash a expensive plane
Buffer strip.
Looks like a lot of rocks in that?
Well I know what I'm gonna do with my old tl150 tracks
Not Dirt...SOIL! 😆😆😆
