These guidelines are still in place. The US is no longer requiring a COVID test for re-entry.
Thank you so much for your valid info👌🏾
Good information. Just a note for those that end up not using a travel agent...EVERY country/ island has a page listing the current requirements to get in. Your hotel likely has a link to this page on the site or you can just search for it. Save it as a favorite on your phone/ pc and check it every few days or so. Most won't change much, but you'll easily see any updates that are made.
Great tip! Yes, things are ever changing!
I appreciate this thanks!
Great info thank you for sharing
Sooo thorough. Thank you so much for this!!
Glad it was helpful!
All of these guidelines are still in place. The only modification: you now need to get a COVID test one day prior to entry into the US.
Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. Will travel there soon
Safe travels, let me know if I can assist with pricing and other information
Thanks. I did take the link from one of the comments about the registration forms that you have to fill out before you get to punta cana. I am glad you shared it. Really appreciate it 🙏
Other suscripción Amy thanks for sharing 😎
Going to Breathless June 2022. Really looking forward to it !! Haven't been out of the country before. Thanks for the info.
Great! Keep a close eye on travel restrictions, things are ever changing! Hope you have a great time!
I've just booked Breathless for June as well! Hoping for a great time
@@jonathanogundeji4342 great to hear! Enjoy!
Happy Sunday! Great tips! Me and my family going in September for our birthday! Thank you! Peace and Blessings to you and your family! 🙏🏾
Enjoy your trip!
I'm going with my wife in september either ☺
@@botafogonj have the best time ever!!
Great info!
Glad it was helpful!
New subbie!
Should I schedule the Covid test to return when I get there. I am so sorry to ask so many questions, but I am traveling solo and I just want to be safe and do everything that I’m supposed to. So you may get another question LOL but I am so sorry
Hi thinking of going like this week. Is it worth paying the extra money for the half ocean room vs the swim up pool? Also what flight did you take and did you reserve online on their website?
Truthfully, both are nice!
We booked through American and had directly flights.
I recommend a package that includes all that.
I’d be happy to price something if you’d like
thank you for very good ideas. im new here , keep in touch.
Glad it was helpful!
About how much do you recommend for tips for a one week stay and what is the daily average for waiters, housekeeping and butler.
We went for a week and brought about $400 and used it all. We didn’t tip every single time, but did for exceptional service…typically $2-3 each time
Hello I want to ask what do you do about your phone service? Did you get an international plan with your current provider/Carrier? Do did you buy a tourist sim from the locals? Thank you!
Great question! For this specific trip, we just used Wi-Fi at the resort!
Other times if I want reception, I use an international day pass with ATT which is $10 per day
Thank you for all this information. I heard the seagrass right now is awful. Were you able to swim in the ocean?
Yes we were. I’ve heard as of late, it’s gotten worse. The pools are so nice that we didn’t feel much need to go in the ocean
I'm really in between Iberostar Grand, Excellence Carmen and Secrets Cap Cana. 3 different beaches and they all have great reviews. Cap Cana's beach seemed more attractive to me less people, Excellence Carmen is more exclusive luxury and Iberostar Grand has great reviews. Was wondering if these beaches are slightly different from each other in terms of the seaweeds and wind. I am planning to go there in next April.
I’ve heard really good things about Secrets Cap Cana. Currently Secrets is offering a free 14 days quarantine for US citizens if you test positive. That in itself if a huge benefit!
@@ComeFlyWithAmy Well as a Canadian I don't know if I'm eligible for that lol. Thanks Amy!
@@ozzygozzy3765 I just looked, it just said any guest, so I’m pretty sure you are covered too then!
You think $100 US is enough in tips for a week for two people? Or you’d recommend more? Also, do you tip all people and services the same?
Also, how’s the food been overall? I know Breathless is the sister resort of Dreams.
Going to Dreams!
So it really all depends on your tipping style. Personally, we bought about $400 in cash tip and used it all. But we did shore excursions and hit up the spa. Bring a little extra so you don’t have to pay high atm fees!
We didn’t tip every single person, just our service providers, our concierge, and a few of the servers we felt went above and beyond.
We loved the food at both resorts!
Can you elaborate on the spa experience? Or do you have a separate video on it?
Sure! I show it off a little in my Breathless video. Onyx and Breathless share a spa and it’s really nice. As part of the experience, you can arrive early and soak in some tubs of varying temperatures. There are also saunas. It’s a really nice spa and I highly recommend
Good evening heard you mention amstar is that how it’s spelled? And you also mentioned a QR code not too sure how to go about that one 😬
Correct AmStar. You can also book them through a travel agent
Here is the link:
eticket.migracion.gob.do
Again something your travel agent can help with ☺️
Hi Amy, we are going to the Dreams Onyx in Punta Cana for 10 days mid December in the preferred club . We would like to know if there is a better block and room number to ask for. We are looking for a quiet place with a nice view. Do you have any suggestions
Preferred Club in general is more quiet, so I don’t think you’ll have much of an issue with that! Maybe ask for the end of a building. When we visited in May, it was quiet!
@@ComeFlyWithAmy Many thanks Amy!
I am staying at the grand reserve paradisus with my 2 kids 19&17 and going the first week of July. How was the beach ? I heard about the seaweed how was it? How was the food? I am planning on going to some excursions can I book it before I leave? I am an avid cigar smoker and the DR is known for great cigars should I anticipate any problems like smoking on the beach or pool? I would appreciate any feedback and this was an informative video thanks.
There is seaweed, but most resorts clean it up throughout the day.
We enjoyed the food at our resort.
I would recommend booking excursions through Amstar. They are a reliable DMO and they are safe.
We were able to smoke in outdoor areas at our resort, I would just ask at your specific resort
Have a great time!
@@ComeFlyWithAmy thanks for the info and thanks.
Hello great videos very informative. Did you have to have a negative Covid Test to board your plane from US? Or to enter Punta Cana Airport? Thank You
As of right now, no, you only need a negative test on your return flight
Of course, things are still ever changing, so be sure to double check, but that policy has been consistent for a little while now
But you only needed it coming back because you are vaccinated?
@@stephaniesAdventuresAndMore no, every us citizen needs negative test in order to return from international destination, regardless of vaccination status
We have a group of 10 going to Breathless in a couple weeks. Have you used the VIP fast pass when arriving at PUJ and do you think it is worth the $60 a person.
We didn’t use it, it was just the two of us, but to be honest, I’m not sure you need it. Customs is pretty quick in PUJ, and we haven’t had long waits any of the times we went
@@ComeFlyWithAmy sounds great, thanks for the tips!!!
One more thing. I was planning on getting a covid test here before traveling because I thought you could show that to them if you got pulled for a random over there and you wouldn't have to do the random. But it sounds like you still had to do the random even with being vaccinated. So is that pointless then.
@@michaelchester3080 yeah we got pulled for a random test. We showed our cards and still had to do the test. It was a little odd
@@ComeFlyWithAmy ok, thanks again!
Thank you so much for this! My friends and I are traveling there soon!! Did you guys have any issues in regards to the alcohol?
You mean availability of it? No issues at all, they definitely keep the drinks flowing. Keep in mind, the liquors are a little more watered down, but you can drink as much as you’d like lol
@@ComeFlyWithAmy Sorry! Needed to be more specific. There has been some concerns regarding tourists passing away from alleged tainted alcohol. Did you run into any issues after your return from the trip?
@@msttmarie7460 no issues, that incident happened about 2 years ago. I haven’t heard of that happening recently
@@ComeFlyWithAmy that's great to hear!! Thank you so much!!
Sorry if I missed this during your video. Was your beach swimmable? Any seaweed?
Yes there was some, but we still went in. The resorts do a great job of cleaning it up
U said bring cash for tips but I assumed I would need to use an ATM there at airport or resort and get Pesos is that not correct?
You can use dollars
What about slushy fruit drinks pina coladas?? or drinks with ice cubes is that safe ??
Yes , it is totally safe, I am a dominican 🇩🇴 living in Florida, but the Dominicana make sure that the visitor have a good time and safety we are good people, I promise if you go there you will want to stay. 🫂
Coming from the uk. And tipping is not a big thing here. So would like to know what is acceptable/expected when tipping
Tipping is never mandatory and completely up to you. Personally we did tip small bills to exceptional staff members and we did tip to our butler in club level.
Hope that helps!
Hi Phil i have the same thing on my mind, How did it go ?
Was reading on here 400£ for the week in tipps, wow that nearly 300£, i wounder what it would be like if we didnt tip would we get bad service,? Or would they just harrase us in giving tips 🤔
@@imranahmed8908 Hi Imran, I will say tips are greatly appreciated but never expected. We really only tipped our butler and a few of the bar staff we liked. We didn't feel harassed anywhere else. Hope that's helpful!
Thanks for the info, I'm going to Breathless in January. One question, was there a curfew on the resort? As far as the night life?
Yay that’s great!
We did not experience any enforcement of curfew. Granted, we usually only stayed out until about 1am. Most parties don’t finish until about 2am
Hii!! I’m going to punta cana this January for the first time and I keep reading online of malaria warning, do you usually take malaria prevention pills when you go?
Awesome! You’ll have a great time! I can only speak personally, I do not. The decision is yours :)
Thank you I’m super excited! I think I’ll just make sure to bring some good bug spray I hear of some nasty side effects to the medicine, do you personally find the bugs are usually not to bad?
@@taysrandomvids4609 we’ve been a few times and we don’t find it any worse than other islands
@@ComeFlyWithAmy awesome thank you for your advice! :)
Great tips. Do they accept American dollars? Tipping and spending. Do you recommend exchanging currency?
Hi, yes they do except american dollars. There is an exchange booth directly at most of the hotels if you need. I found you can get change at the front desk if you ask nicely!
Just got back a few days ago from Punta Cana. I don’t believe you need to exchange your money. They use of US currency everywhere. When you exchange US currency at the resort they change it at the lowest rate. I do not recommend people doing this. I go to DR very often, I’m Dominican and never exchange the money I take with me.
In regards to the tipping, I literally change $150 into $5 bills before I go and that’s my “tipping money”. Depends for how long you go but that’s just an example.
@@lorenaperez9781 agreed with this, we tipped in dollars, no exchanging. Glad you had a good time!
If it safe for a solo traveler
@@sylviabucksonify I would travel here solo, we felt safe the entire time
How much did you tip? Did you use one dollar bills or 5s
We did $1s
Did you have to convert your money when you got there?
Nope! They happily take US money
Hi we like to go in jannuary to punta Cana and we came from Italy we Need a covid test in punta Cana It,s all?
Hi there, to review all covid entry requirements, visit: www.godominicanrepublic.com/newsroom/coronavirus/
Did you tip with American currency? Or did you did you get Dominican money? And if so how did you do that?
Hi Jim, we used American money
@@ComeFlyWithAmy thanks for the info. My soon to be wife and I are going next week For our honeymoon. We are taking American Airlines direct flights to and from thank God. Did the airline send you the eTicket to fill out before the flight or is that something you got to go online and do yourself?
@@jimb6017 congrats!! How exciting!
No you will need to complete it a few days prior. I would do it 3-5 days before. The airline will not send to you
Are there any National Rental Car Places near the resorts like Hertz or Enterprise
Not sure on that one. Ours didn’t have a specific counter, but I also didn’t ask. I personally don’t think I’d drive around in a rental, keep in mind, this is still a third world country
@@ComeFlyWithAmy Thank you
How did you pay for the excursions?
Great question…so for this trip, we booked onsite at our hotel using Amstar. But before the trip, I would reach out to your travel agent to see what options there are. If you didn’t use a travel agent, I can help with that :)
🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴♥️♥️
Hi Amy! I’m looking to travel there for my birthday in November! Is it safe to travel to onyx Dream’s resort solo and are there reported deaths there! Are the rooms safe and were there any break ins or crimes inside! I’m nervous but want to go here
Hi Sylvia,
We didn’t have any safety concerns at all. I would travel here solo, but book with a reputable agent that will get you transfers and everything else together
How much would it be from bwi airport to onyx dreams 11/18-21

what about the waTER CAN WE DRINK THE WATER ???? what about the ice in drinks ??? is it safe ????
Don’t drink it direct from the sink, as it’s not filtered like US water. Ice water in the restaurants is filtered. They provide unlimited bottled water on property of resorts
Did you tip in US dollars or Dominican Republic money?
US dollars
I am getting married here next year...any tips on how to travel with a wedding dress?
How exciting!!
Most major airlines will allow you to carry on a wedding dress. That’s my recommended method! That way it won’t get lost.
Let me know if I can help with any other questions :)
@@ComeFlyWithAmy thank you!
wow we have to pay 90 bucks for a pcr test and also we cannot get on a plane here in canada with out a vaccine passport showing we ve had shots...theres no anitbodies tests here
Yes that sounds right. It all depends on each countries entry requirements
When I flew Delta to Punta Cana last spring I landed at a jet bridge, no bus involved. Is the runway bus something new due to COVID or did you just fly an airline that didn't have Jet bridge rights? Great information, thanks for the video.
There are two terminals in PUJ. I think it depends on which one you leave from. This trip, we had buses both ways to get on the airplane. Not a bad set up, but a little different from the US lol
Oh and we flew American

hey there
have you tried Uber? maybe heard of it?
Hi, I personally have not done Uber in the DR. We had pre booked transportation through our booking
What about language ?
English for the most part
I couldn't disagree more with using a travel agent unless you've got money to burn
I was going to use a travel agent when I went to Panama and they were going to charge me twice for the same hotels I found online
Hi Harry, it’s free to use a travel agent. No additional cost to you. Plus, I give booking incentives.
In addition, it’s less worry for you
So punta cana is a country, lol
We will be travelling without kids
Yay! You’ll love it! Make sure you visit Breathless too! I recommend the French restaurant there
