I don’t care what everyone else says, this is one of my favorite versions of the Christmas Carol. Even if the animation messes with everyone, it’s one of the most accurate retellings of the story, which anyone who read the book understands, even if they stretched some stuff. Also, for some reason the animation actually never bugged me.

Actually, Scrooge having a dynamic backstory is a big part of what makes him a rounded character who is capable of change, rather than just a villain archetype. THAT’S KIND OF THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS STORY.

I had to watch the Christmas Carol for a Middle School English report or something and this movie had just come out in theaters and I was really excited to see a 3D movie that didn't require red and blue paper glasses, but then halfway through my head was hurting really bad, and I didn't think it was connected but then the next 2 3D movies I went to also got a bad headache, so yeah I can't watch them, or use the 3D on the Nintendo 3DS, but the 3DS more so hurts my eyes than anything.

Igor Schmidlapp Agreed. Any version where he shows up at Cratchit’s house is an automatic fail. Well, I mean, I have a soft spot for Mickey’s Christmas Carol because nostalgia and because it isn’t even bothering to stay on canon, it’s a Disney cartoon so expectations are low for lore and it’s for kids anyway. But yeah, my favorite is the Patrick Stewart one. Not the most popular but I like their approach to it and the general lack of musical numbers (ugh) outside of people enjoying music in the ways that people actually do.

Personally I don't care about what anyone says because I love this movie so much, every single time I see it I'm reminded of the book which I've actually read quite a number of times and I've come to love it as much as the film. The only 2 versions of A Christmas Carol I've ever seen and known are Disney's A Christmas Carol and The Muppet Christmas Carol and I love them both so much, one of the main reasons is because they both star 2 of my favorite actors as Ebenezer Scrooge, you can never go wrong with either Michael Caine or Jim Carrey. I'll be watching this film for the rest of my life along with the Muppet one whether it's Christmas or not, I can garuntee that.

one of my favorite things in the world is "A Christmas Carol", i absolutely LOVE this story. i look forward to watching as many versions as i can every single year and i never tire of them. this version i avoided for a good couple years because frankly im not a big Jim Carey fan and expected it to fully be awful. when i finally gave it a chance and watched it i was very pleasantly surprised, i found it to be pretty good and to look great. my only real complaint with it were there were a few dumb slapstick scenes thrown in i could have done without. personally i do not get all the uncanny valley effect complaints, i thought it looked great.

I always got the feeling that Scrooge resented Fred because Fan, who Scrooge loved more than anyone and was one of the only people in the world who loved him, died giving birth to him (this is never stated in the story, but was quite common in the Victorian era). His experiences with the spirits allowed him to stop seeing Fred as the reason Fan is gone and start seeing him as a continuation of that love.

That’s why I feel like cutting her out of the Muppets adaptation was a mistake as without seeing her and the love Scrooge had for her other than his former ex Belle, it makes his change of attitude towards his nephew less affective. It really is one of the more poignant scenes in the book and it’s disappointing to see it cut out despite the latter film doing a great job being faithful to the original Dickens story to point of even sometimes having Gonzo as Dickens as the narrator quoting the original text.

Cities were filthy, indoor plumbing was barely a thing, disease was poorly understood, and hospital care basically amounted to "stick some leeches on and call me in the morning, if you live". Okay this one had me in stitches 😂 mostly the jokes pertaining to Scrooge’s physical build and age, like his vertebrae being like jenga blocks, or the joe Pesci falling down the stairs in home alone jokes 🤣🤣🤣

Oh my goodness , I love this movie. It always freaked me out as a kid, though. The entire thing feels like a fever dream. 👌the first time I saw it I think I actually cried from the jaw unhinging and the creepy as heck Spector of death. Why did they make the ghost of Christmas yet to come so stinking creepy?

I like the opening scene with Scrooge paying for Marley's burial not because it shows how greedy he is (there's PLENTY of story to make that point), but how it shows how TERRIFIED he is of parting with ANY amount of money. He's a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching covetous old sinner because (as he puts it later in the movie) there's nothing that frightens him more than a lifetime doomed to poverty. Look at how the undertaker is framed as he's holding his hand out to Scrooge; it almost looks like he's MUGGING the poor guy.
Come on, Marley's shtick with his nearly-severed jaw wasn't worthy of a sin?
Nobody cares about Scrooge's backstory? Since when? We want redemption for a good person who has lost his way, not some unrepentant asshole who's evil just for evil's sake. We kinda need the backstory to learn about the good person he was, and we want him to return to BEING that good person. Sure, we all love the Twilight Zone 3rd act of It's a Wonderful Life, but without all of George Bailey's backstory that got us to that point, it's meaningless.
7:59 - That's not an anti-religious message that was crammed into the story, it's a bit from the book that's usually omitted from screen adaptations which REALLY needed to be said at the time of this movie's release. This was back when reports of molestation from Catholic priests were spreading like wildfire. Scrooge calls out the Ghost for his part in closing places of business on the Sabbath, preventing people of lower means from being able to cook their food, similar to how a lot of people at the time were calling out the validity of the church when SO MANY horrible things were happening, particularly to CHILDREN. The Ghost is outright telling Scrooge (and the audience) "These people aren't acting on OUR behalf. Don't judge US because of a few bad eggs." And this is a message that really needs to be applied to EVERY group of EVERY kind. It'd be a faux-pas to condemn all of Islam just because a few Muslims decided to become terrorists, right? We need to adopt that attitude towards EVERYONE. Thank you for keeping that bit of the book in this movie, Mr. Zemeckis.
And yes, ding the carriage chase with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come as a sin, but you missed the most important part of WHY it's a sin. Scrooge may be terrified by this grim specter of death, but he understands that the ghost is there to do him good, hence his insistence that he "lead on" since "the night is waning fast." The ghost has no reason to chase down this willing soul, and Scrooge has no reason to run from this spirit of good intent.
