jeez. his years of drinking are taking their toll. looks like an old man. not the singer he was but still 10x better than most of them you hear today
He never complained...he broke his pelvis and had a lot of treatment... then he got encephalitis. He spent the last 6mts of his life in St Vincent University hospital in Dublin Ireland. RIp

I hope he survives a bit longer he never did realize what the drink is doing to him what a shame ,I am a recovering alcoholic and I know how hard it is to give it up . May God bless him .

It sadness the life out of me to see this. What a fuckin waste. I knew Shane in the 80s, great years, great songs, great bands, great pub, great mates, many dead now. Dave Jordan, Peeawee, Mo OHagan , Frank Murray, Phil and many more. He taught me not to drink and take drugs to excess how about that. Will love him forever.

I hate to judge him like this but it just sounds so horrible and this is such a beautiful ballad. He is still one of the greats, though. I just wish he had taken better care of himself.

He broke his pelvis in 2015, and because of his general poor state of health, it's not healed properly.
He had a fall off of a stage and broke his his hip and pelvis. I will try to find the interview where he talks about it and post it here for you if I find it.

Look...I hate alcohol, don't partake in it myself, but Shane McGowan is not defined by the alcohol, even though the alcohol has defined his life sadly. He's created ingenious music over the years and carried the spirit of Ireland in his music. There's a tradition of bards who are perhaps not the most coherent but whose voices carry magic, and I think McGowan was one of these, and perhaps still is (the audio quality's not great in this, and he got fitted with new teeth).
