It's been fun watching you go through this experiment! I just got a Strandberg Boden Classic a few weeks ago after watching your videos, and watching lots of all three of the channels you featured today. Your approach to these guitars has been by far the most thorough I've seen, and I am looking forward to the finale.

Seeing these guys in their decked out studios w/cinematic cameras and then Tory w/cigarette stains on the ceiling made me smirk. Tory rocks, glad I found her on RUclips last year.
The experiment is slowly making me like the idea of a strandberg despite never even playing one!

BTW - the Fender A-frame floor stand works perfectly for a Strandberg. The lower supports are adjustable to fit the contours of the Strandberg. In addition, you can easily hang them on the wall with a standard String Swing by turning the hook portion upside down or bending the forks closer together (as noted on the packaging).
I think Ola recently posted a pic of some stands in the works as well. They will hopefully be better priced.
I became a Tory fan recently after seeing her channel, quite a character, unique.

We've seen a lot of thoughtful dialogue on the Strandberg Experiment from Doc Fludd, and the feedback from these other widely respected guitar players is pretty interesting. They arent perfect, but you have to respect the innovation and that they are good enough to survive as a business model as proof that enough people are buying them because theyre good..for them. I started looking at Strandys as a collection of parts that I'd stitch on to another guitar, thinking "this works, guitars should have a bolt on here." I still think that, while also cracking jokes about them for being ugly and different. Aesthetics is a moving target, so the Strandberg Starfish may turn into Mona Lisa's knockers. Fingers crossed the company sticks around and keeps coming up with blips along the timeline of guitar evolution. Parting shot: its funny to see the other people i watch for cogent delivery of guitar information beamed into one video. Good for the algorithm, but its also something of an acid test for stuff floating around in the ideaspace.
My favorite guitar to play when I know I'm going to be playing for a long stretch is a first year Carvin signature Holdsworth with It's diminutive headstock. The guitar weighs 5.1 lbs which is only a smidgen more than my Parker fly without the horn poking into my chest so there's that. I think Strandberg took Ned's original concept of a headless instrument and really made it a compelling option for those looking to push the ergonomic boundaries. There have been previous attempts at ergonomic guitars but a great many looked like melted ice cream.
Btw there is a salen with tremolo. The new plini signature. I think you’d enjoy that one since you mentioned that on your first episode.
I don't own any headless guitars but my irrational bias against them was utterly destroyed in a few minutes listening to Allan Holdsworth share his thoughts why he went to a headless Kiesel. He basically said the neck balance on headless is superior and allows you to relax your fretting hand even more, not having to apply light pressure to hold up the neck.
I was looking for a small and light couch guitar a few years ago and came across the Kiesel Holdsworth model because of Allan. I found an used one at a good price and man, within a few hrs of playing It became my favorite new guitar and eventually I ordered a new kiesel Zeus. I’ve been playing them exclusively for the past 4 years and don’t miss any of my other 25 full size guitars at all
OK this settles it. I'm getting a PRS :P

Btw, I have the same NT Boden, I'd like to see a NT with richlite at some point as I'm in Colorado and it's quite dry here typically.

Personally I use a strandberg prog 5 bass for the last 3 years, and I tried few of the guitar models over the years, and all of those ergonomics are much more important on a bass. Every bassist that tried mine so far, said it was the most playable bass they've tried, and I can't say the same about the guitars...
Gig bag corner stand is a great idea, i would set it down with the guitar facing the wall so if it gets knocked backwards you have the case for cushion.

Hi Andre! It is interesting how all the Strandberg players are partial to PRS. The first thing that comes to mind is the similarity in scale length. This was mentioned here. That's a big thing too. The scale length makes perhaps more difference than tone wood, neck joint, and probably even pickup configuration. Or at least as much as pu config. For example, in my mind a tele can't really be a tele unless it string-thru with a 25.5-inch scale. The pickups won't make it so if it's not.

Yep. That is a big point that I didn't even really consider throughout my time with the Strandberg. I'm happy they pointed it out.
There's actually a Salem with a trem. Plini fell in love with the guitar and asked Strandberg to make him one with a bridge humbucker and a tele neck pickup, tremolo and true temperament frets, don't know if it'll ever be a production model but is something

@@andrefludd I immediately went and watched her vids. Crazy how good she is at IMPROVISING POLYPHONY. Normal improve and being super good at it is very hard, but improvising two complementary melody lines at the same time while exhibiting that level of technique? Genuinely insane.
Honestly, a better camera/audio combo would make Tory extreeeemly popular
I'm almost too afraid to even try them out, even though one of the local store has 2 of them (Boden Original 7 and Boden Standard 6). Mainly because, if I were to like how the neck and body feels, I'd have to save up almost twice as much, for what I'm trying to get now, which is the Ibanez Q54. My choice for the Q54 was influenced by Strandberg, since I'm looking for a guitar that is lighter than my RG, but has to be as tonally versatile as the mod I did to it, and without having to spend extra money and time to do the modding, so the Q54 fits the bill.
I know, it's not as ergonomic as a Strandberg, but I'm not in a financial position where I can justify a 1.7k price tag (which is quite the bonkers of bonkers amount in our currency, not to mention that I'm already struggling to even save up for the Q54 as is). Not even the 2nd hand online marketplace of where I'm from, has any Strandberg ads nationwide, so that's out of the question. Who knows, maybe one day, I'm in a financial position to be able to afford one, then I might try them out.
Andre have you reviewed or planning to review a custom Kiesel? I would love to see your take on their models.

I wanna try a Strandberg eventually, but it bugs my how I can buy a MIA kiesel headless build to order for 1500-2k and an off the shelf Indonesian made strand goes for 2500+ … I can’t justify the price. I would pay 1200-1500 tops or around 1000-1500 tops for an used one in good shape, sorry
I just wish Kiesel would build something with an ergonomic body. I play seated at all times and I see the appeal of the strandberg body shape…
There are strandbergs you can buy around 1500 new or 1200 used. but I agree with you. If Kiesel offered a similar body, I’d probably go with them as well.
@@andrefluddyes I’ve considered buying of the entry models or looking for one of nicer fusion models on the pricier range. I have nothing against overseas guitars and some of the favorite guitars I own were made in Japan or Korea. But we all know the labor costs overseas are a lot less than in the USA, that’s one reason MIA guitars cost more, not necessarily that they are all made better, and they also have the power of a known brand and “made in USA” stamp. But 1.5k-2k for an import guitar is getting more common now as the quality gap has closed. Pretty soon it will be very hard to find any new MIA guitar for under 2k…
@@andrefluddI’ve asked Jeff on their lives a few times about an ergonomic/ strandy body shape and they don’t ever read those kind of questions. They just came up with a new headless model and no signs of an ergonomic model. It’s like they don’t wanna take our money… I know many people would buy one if they offer it
Don’t think about them being similar just because headless models though.
Would Love to hear your thoughts on the Ibanez Q series, I recently (Dec) got the Q52pb for 1200 including tax, and its great to have a headless with a ,more "traditional" 12 inch radius. the biggest downside imo is that while there are great switching options, positions 2 and 4 I barely use due to their quietness/blandness. new pickups might fix that, but as said in the video 90% of the time I'm either on the bridge or the neck. I'm not sure if there's similar pickup switching issues with the Q54 and I'm definitely not interested in the "slanted fret" models, but the one I have is perfect for me. I even sold all my other guitars asides from a beater Yamaha.

I'll try to be the guy who points some ...points. As André mentioned, and I felt the same, for some 'F's (and other chords in that area), the ending... of neck can feel ...strange. I'll never forget to mention the jack 'direction', this needs a solution, for a 'modern' designed guitar.
& I'll end my trio by saying that, if you play the kind of music that needs big and fast hand displacements (ex Hard-core), the guitar does feel light and moves a bit, but you'll adapt.
Baside that, I love my BAMer* ( Boden Alex Machacek-Edition Red, hallow body) for almost everything else. The reasons I decided for this model were the Suhr PUs and wanted to try, fanned frets. If you use mutant chords like me+ thumb over the neck, fanned frets, not always the best, today, I would go with the regular ones or maybe TT (True Temperament). It's a great sounding, versatile guitar and my aging back is happy!
Pick ups are... they're phenomenal!
Also think the brand should take better care of .strandberg* users and for such models as mine, it wont hurt some spare discs and teflon rings +
I did took the deluxe tool box ( had to buy it apart) and the special stand (had to buy it apart 2).
ps I don't like the idea of pointing details to Luthiers/brands, it's their job to make their instruments better.

We need more, and cheaper neck thru models. I don't believe they can claim to be the leader in ergonomics without neck thru. I have fairly average sized hands but struggling with the bolt on neck joint starting around the 15th fret - bare in mind the bolt on neck joint in an Ibanez RG starts around 19th fret which is fine.
What I will like to see from strandberg is if they bring back that yellow pearl Boden NT Metal but with a tremolo, and to go back with the Fluence Moderns. I also find it odd that their models with Fluence's don't have the rechargable battery pack already installed.

Interesting how, if asked, everyone has a different expectation of what the perfect guitar should be... guess there is no such thing as the perfect guitar.
Having said that, my interest in Strandberg is peeking daily.
I don’t get the thing about guitar stands: I have 3 in my floor rack without any problem.

I really like how strandberg guitars look, like the overall quality and sound (based on a few I had luck to play on tons of reviews on web).
And I personally own a headless NK; not the best example, but still.
The “ergonomics” part just doesn’t work for me. Now hear me out, I’ll try my best to explain, english is my fourth language.
First, a guitar should only be played in a classical position. Never in my life have I ever seen a single guitarist playing guitar holding it on his right lap and not having his shoulder way up, his elbow way back and his spine just crooked in a weird way. Playing guitar on your right lap will never be fully comfortable no matter how hard you defend it; in worst cases it’s just harmful.
The only downside to classical position tho is that you need a foot stand, but that’s a fair price for a healthy back.
Now we come to headless guitars. The guitar’s body ends pretty much at the bridge, so the fulcrum (hope that’s the word) is gone. Put it on your left lap as you’re used to and you’ll quickly find out the thing just doesn’t want to stand still on your leg, it tilts to the right. Well, you try to support it with your right leg but now you’re just sitting with your legs squizzed which can’t be “ergonomic”, and also the bridge tuners are in a constant contact with your clothes.
You might say: “they have those special cuts near the input jack that perfectly fit your lap”, yeah, but then you’re kinda forced to hold the guitar to your body with the fretting hand, which, again, cannot possibly be comfortable.
Then you try to sit with it on your right lap and legs crossed so the guitar is a bit higher and eases the pain of it’s existence; if you’re a man - you know that sitting for hours with your legs crossed ain’t good for ya.
And the “final stage” of all that is just using a strap even when sitting down, which completely eliminates any differences with any other type of guitar.
Now, is a headless guitar REALLY that ergonomic? Well, not to me.
Then there was a “Joan of Arc” …..now a “Tory Slusher 🎸 “

I realize it's a youtube vid, but those 'bergs all sound silly to me. There is no girth or warmth in any of the sounds... weird, but enough to make me not want one.
I think that's just us looking at the instrument and having that impact our thoughts. I doubt anyone could tell in a blind test which was the strandberg and which was a different guitar.

Prs is just another (wannabe) Gibson,Fender. there is no innovation there is so many problems with them,1-price is just stupidly expensive for what you get
mark holocomb sig Se series was around 1200$ with plastic nut , 10 inch radius is awful for modern playing and neck is fat ,the set neck heeljoint is not comfortable
there is no SS frets and so many other things
but I understand jazz or standard jazz players would like them cause more of these are for modern players.
I TOTALLY disagree with you. PRS has great QC at every price point. Great bridges, great pickups, great necks. I also don’t love the heel joint and I’d like stainless steel frets too. But they are leagues ahead of gibson and fender especially at the $500-1000price point IMO. The core stuff can get insanely expensive at times but most companies have insane custom shop prices on certain items.
@@andrefludd sry but I tested 5 SE lineup actually they are the worst between import guitars there are so many better options, ESp- LTD , Schecter with better designs better necks better heeljoints,better pickups,better bridges. even compare to that silver sky SE, Schecter nick johnston is much better with same price.

I've owned 2 PRS guitars and within 1 years time the necks on both of them twisted. Built out of green wood.
Other than that no problems.
