Define "safety sensitive" … seems open to interpretation thus giving employers the upper hand in continuing to discriminate against medicinal cannabis users. For example if the job entails the use of a step ladder or a pallet jack it could be argued that the position is safety sensitive and an employee that uses medicinal cannabis could be more likely to sustain workplace injury. Hopefully we will follow Canada's lead soon and federal/state conflicting laws will become a non issue.

Yes, we are hoping for the same. We know that cannabis is a great alternative treatment option to get relief from many serious medical conditions. Moreover, cannabis also increases productivity and concentration. We hope the government realizes its benefits and pass a law that protects employees against termination.

The employee has to PROVE they were fired Just because they smoked weed it doesn't matter cause unless your UNION YOUR RIGHTS as a employee don't fucking matter they don't even HAVE to give you a reason why they terminated you .... they could say ... you were a red shirt on blue shirt day ... #Stay safe stay high on your OWN time

No unless someone over there proposes a bill similar to this and even then it could still be shut down if people vote against it

When will this take effect in Colorado? And what about recreational users, will they get the same protection as medical users?

    • @OnlineMedicalCard

This bill will provide protection to medical users only. And as for Colorado is concerned it may take some time.

Tell them to stop testing: Problem solved

Louis Taliaferro not exactly. I think a drug test could be beneficial to keeping a safe and efficient work environment against users that use heavier drugs that can severely effect the mind and body of the user and also possibly spread those bad drugs around. If drug tests were used efficiently from an employer, they could still rule out people that don’t use it responsibly or lie about it, even though it’s not discrimination against pot smokers it’s more discrimination towards his habits using it.. Also I think it’s important for government to see a safe transition as we want to show them how positively effective the people and the business. That and we need to compare it to alcohol, it’s negative effects and how it effects businesses the same way as weed would and if they won’t legalize it federally we could possibly open a case that would have a great starting campaign to getting more people on board with how we can do this!
