Sure but this started in a very manicured neighborhood and rumored to have started in a yard. I wouldn't be surprised if it was started by sparks from a weed whacker with metal line. Huge shout out to our wonderful LA mayor Karen Bass for cutting $20M in funding to the LAFD then literally doing nothing but blaming others during interviews now after returning from vacation
An easy bandwagon to jump on, did a 1% budget cut create much of a difference? Acceptance of climate change is needed as opposed to trying to score cheap political points.
@@AndeCrabtreeIII A $20M cut isn't much sure, but the fact that she's cutting finding to the LAFD rather than increasing it is crazy. was an Arizona State Parks ranger for 15 years and sadly, have seen my fair share of fires. Born in SF Children's Hospital, I mountain biked up in Marin before they were called mountain bikes. Since I haven't owned a car for years & years & years and have to ride through ALL weather conditions day after day, I can finally say at age 65 and having been a member of most American political parties, WITH AUTHORITY: 1) US - It is not the politicians. IT'S US! WE are the ones who can't relax our grip on a convenient lifestyle, NO MATTER HOW HIGH THE COST, and we'll vote for ANYONE who tells us they'll fix it. 2) PHYSICS - Until you've attempted to extinguish a wildfire yourself, or tried administering a "controlled burn", you do not even possess a FAINT notion of the power of high winds.... or ANY wind. Add to that the sheer PHYSICS of trying to move that much water uphill during multiple simultaneous catastrophic events which require shutting off power to pumps even as water lines are being severed in the destruction and, well if that needs explanation, you're just, well, um, I'm sorry about your "condition". 3) GETTING HOTTER - I don't really care who you vote for or actually, ANYTHING about you. I keep to myself. I'm that old guy you've seen riding a mountain bike down the street since you were a kid. Call it "climate change", or a "hoax", or whatever you want... don't matter - IT'S GETTING HOTTER. In my racing days, training in the Rockies for the Leadville 100 & the Pikes Peak hillclimb, I can remember the thermometer hitting 97 degrees! It was Denver's hottest day in 1997 and it made the news! Last year here in Denver, CO, we had SIX DAYS that were 100° or hotter. IT'S GETTING HOTTER. JUST THIS ONCE, YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO WHAT THE CRAZY OLD MAN DOWN THE STREET KEEPS MUMBLIN'... CRIPES! IT'S GETTIN' HOTTER!!
The fact is, even if everyone in the USA suddenly changed their day to day habits, it would barely make a difference to the co2 in the atmosphere on a global scale. Also, the amount of co2 produced by these fires and then the amount of co2 produced to rebuild all the toasted homes isn’t going to be magically offset by everyone driving an electric car , paying higher taxes and eating plant / insect burgers.
This is eerily similar to all of the property that we lost in Paradise, CA a few years back. The dust that's falling is a crystalline structure which looks like shards of insulation.
American and Californian here. I love my country too much to give up. The flag burnt and still flying gives me hope. I'm a nurse, and the hospitals are packed with the flu and smoked inhaled patients. Californians are strong, and we will make it. Thank you for the prayers.
People who are angry about the response don’t understand how firefighting works when you are dealing with bushfire of this scale. They can only safely operate around the edges of the fire, attempting to contain it, and beyond that follow it and put out spot fires once it moves on. You could have an ARMY of guys with hoses and they’d be useless to stop this. People just don’t understand the speed and power of these events, it’s like a bomb going off, if it’s coming at you with the wind behind it you get out of its way whether you’re a firefighter or not!
I agree. There have also been a lot calls for local leaders' heads over the past year's budget cuts to fire protection in LA, but I'd be willing to bet that those cuts were based on projected needs derived from recent years' local fire activity. If LA, or the state of CA, were to hire more firefighters in order to staff up to levels needed to fight fires of this magnitude on a regular basis, I shudder to think how much bigger the budget would have to be; at least double, if not triple (I think the cuts amounted to roughly 17%). Obviously, fires this damaging don't occur every year, so having that many fire fighters on hand full time, just in case, would a lot of them idling most of the year, waiting for the next big one that might not come for years. If they staff up very heavily for years and there aren't as many fires directly threatening neighborhoods like this, eventually people will question why the city is paying so many fire fighters to stand around. Probably the best solution to that would be to have several brigades of part-time fire fighters who train & serve one weekend per month, much like how the national guard works. They would have other jobs to make a living most of the time, but when the big one comes, there would be more personnel available to call in. Perhaps there is already a similar program state-wide? I don't know.
@@jamesclaytonbowman5977 again though, it’s not really a question of numbers, fires this big just cannot be ‘fought’ the way people think they are. They create their own wind and weather, they are basically unstoppable, all you can really do is watch and pray for the weather to give. Hopefully they remain rare events, but I’m not so sure…. The State might want to invest in native consultants on forest management and controlled burns to help reduce the likelihood of this kind of disaster occurring again, but boots on the ground isn’t the issue: no amount of men can stand in front of fires this large, it’s suicide. Plus this is America, not Australia (in Australia we don’t mind paying more taxes to have universal healthcare and a more interventionist State, Americans seem to think this is lunacy somehow, though they are awful quick to blame government when TSHTF).. certainly any rebuilding efforts should require the use of fire resistant materials, but then again, that’s regulation, isn’t it? And a climate change denialist is about to take office too. I don’t know what the solution is, really, or even if there is one. Thoughts and prayers for all affected, I’ve seen this horror first hand, it’s a nightmare and the fire is just the start of it.
Fire needs fuel, oxygen, dry and a spark. They could have cut down the fuel dramatically but that would mean thinking ahead. Of course, having adequate water would also be nice , but there were more important things to water. I guess. Gross incompetence rules once again.
I’m mad at the fire prevention and fire smart which the state and LA failed. I worked in cali in 2018 under the last fires, I’m a forestry manager, specifically managing fire projects. Go look at 2024 Jasper fire in Canada - I managed that. It was the same thing, red tape by the government to protect parks over the protection of people. Sorry but anyone who doesn’t understand the fact the government is to blame (especially because in 2020 the insurance companies said this to the state)
A lesson for the ultra rich in LA to be sensitive to the plight of the very poor and homeless people in LA who are suffering without amenities like water, electricity ,rent , food and living on the streets in tents with threats of bugs, storms, crime to their well being. We should learn from former president Jimmy Carter, who helped the poor by building homes for them thruout his presidency(may his soul rest in peace)

Awesome people are helping out. Get America back to self-sufficiency! Excellent. Thanks for showing this side of the effort! I'm up in Washington some of local firefighters headed down there two days ago.
When LA rebuilds, think fire resistant materials, fire-resistant buildings give occupants more time to evacuate safely, and helps reduce and minimize potential structural damage. Also make sure the 'officials' are not allowed to defund the fire department. Elect officials that have the citizens best interests over their own. AND stop allowing the CEO of water and power to receive 750K a year, cheese-louse!
I live in a fire-safe building. It is good for isolating rooms, but won't stand a chance like something on this scale. Also, that won't reduce risk - now another big risk is floods. Finally, I don't think many politicians and government officials have citizens best interests at heart. That's more optimistic than the fire resistant buildings
@@Kazz-u2s "AI Overview Learn more A "fire resistant home with 100 miles an hour winds" refers to a house designed to withstand both high wind speeds (like a hurricane) and fire, typically achieved through construction materials like steel framing, non-combustible siding, and roof designs that resist wind uplift, while also having features like ember-resistant vents and properly cleared defensible space around the property to prevent fire spread."🤔
Amazing they are talking about rebuilding when the risk of fires is only going to get worse as climate change gets worse. Do they really think this wont happen again in the near future?
Anywhere you live there are disasters. If not by nature it’s by people.. Mesa, Az. was once the city with the least disasters. Then a micro burst caused winds that destroyed buildings. Where ya’ gonna’ go?!
Global warming isn't real. Trump already told California almost a decade ago to stop mismanaging the forest and resume regular harvesting of wood to reduce fire risk.
Pray for people in California! I’ve been thinking about sending Jackery generators as emergency supply to my friends over there. In the face of disaster, everyone is equal, and the losses people suffer are equally devastating. It’s truly heartbreaking. This fire spread so quickly that many people could only hastily pack their belongings and leave. This reminds us of the importance of being prepared even in peaceful times. We should have emergency supplies ready in our daily lives, such as fire blankets, headlights, safety ropes, Jackery solar generators, gas masks, and other essentials. Hoping LA recovers soon. God bless.🙏
Fire can occur almost anywhere. Fires in the past have destroyed London and Chicago, would you call those areas "hellish"? On second thought, don't answer that!
The fire has the rigths to defend itself and its only fill fueling gods greater plan. The fire was here before the California residents in 3,000 years and now returned to home.
When the Divine Power takes an account of the oppressions committed by a tyrant, it holds them to a very strict reckoning, and no matter how powerful the oppressor may be, they cannot escape. For the past year and a half, the relentless cruelty and barbarity inflicted upon the innocent people of Gaza without any justification have now, by Allah's might, turned against the oppressors. Indeed, Allah’s justice is supreme, and He never abandons the oppressed. The entire world has witnessed this truth in action. Without a doubt, our Lord has power over everything.
The insurance companies know these fires will get worse -- partly fueled by climate chaos (AKA 'global warming') -- and these areas are fire prone. Insurance companies are forced to deal with reality .... unlike most politicians. And I dislike insurance companies -- my rates are very high now even though I don't live in a high risk fire area. The fires exist largely because Stewart and Lynda Resnick, known for their farming business, are worth eight billion dollars and co-own the Wonderful Company, one of the largest farming operations in America. The Resnicks are the biggest farmers in California. By 2007 they owned 4 San Franciscos worth of farmland. Secret meetings 2 decades ago led to them being granted ownership of most of Californias water. In 2023 urban water systems only had access to 5% of the ENTIRE states water Californians pay taxes for. The Resnicks now use 150 billion gallons every year. Was anyone from the state and/or the federal government involved in the meetings is the question that should be answered. I got this information from twitter channel More Perfect Union.
This is completely false, the opposite is what happened. Water was routed away from farmland and into cities by the state government where it drained into the oceans, hence why there is a lack of fresh water as you go inland.
This could go on for a long time. There’s a wildfire further north, away from LA, the Lane 1 wildfire which has so far consumed 26,000 acres and has been burning for 177 days.
When disaster strikes, I truly realize the fragility of life. I hope the firefighters stay safe and return home unharmed. All we can do is escape to a safe shelter with emergency supplies, such as fire blankets, headlights, safety ropes, Jackery solar generators, gas masks, and powerful flashlights. These items can provide us with a greater chance of survival in critical moments. I hope LA recovers soon.

Sure but this started in a very manicured neighborhood and rumored to have started in a yard.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was started by sparks from a weed whacker with metal line. When they hit rocks, they spark and it has been a source of many fires in the past. Yard workers are supposed to use plastic line. Dry windy conditions are not taken seriously enough by the public. Dragging trailer chains, flicked cig butts, welding, or a number of things should be of high awareness.

was an Arizona State Parks ranger for 15 years and sadly, have seen my fair share of fires. Born in SF Children's Hospital, I mountain biked up in Marin before they were called mountain bikes. Since I haven't owned a car for years & years & years and have to ride through ALL weather conditions day after day, I can finally say at age 65 and having been a member of most American political parties, WITH AUTHORITY:
1) US - It is not the politicians.

It's the wind.

Indeed, Allah’s justice is supreme, and He never abandons the oppressed. The entire world has witnessed this truth in action. Without a doubt, our Lord has power over everything.

There was budget cut on firefighting. That’s a red flag for insurance companies.
They just keep jacking up the rates .... 🙂

Yes this is confirmed.
It’s basically the plot from Chinatown
This is completely false, the opposite is what happened. Water was routed away from farmland and into cities by the state government where it drained into the oceans, hence why there is a lack of fresh water as you go inland.
