Vikings was nothing to take lightly.....can you imagine Viking boats coming up rivers so fast and many...your fear of dying was nothing compared to what probably happened to them....love this show.
Is it me or did season 1and 2 have much better fight choreography then all the others that came after it. I loved this battle but the 5th’s season’s midd finaly was underwhelming for me. Although It could be the it was directed.

Also the Vikings were regular sized people. The average height for the Viking was 5ft 7 apparently, and this wasn't particularly tall for the time. Still, they may have been taller than average. Do you know the songs that're being played anyway? I know it's Wardruna, but which ones? :-)

+The Imbroglio The reason I did was simple.The way its cut it would sound really bad with many songs cutting in and out as they play battle music in the show.The songs used are from the show and was playing in some of the scenes I used. Using slow motion and quick action cuts would have distorted any sounds the show had especially the music.I only comment because I had thought of not originally adding music but it sounded really cut up.Not to mention the slow motion shots was painful on the ears lol

I was told, while working in Sweden, that they were real short and they ingested some kind of mushrooms before battle hence their bravery in combat and their capacity to take blows and keep on going. I wonder what would they have been capable of if there were amphetamines or even Khat available back then.
Good point The show's writers actually touched on that.The main force Saxon army was facing the channel and the Franks and was epuipt much better.In the big picture the Vikings was never a empire ending threat more of a nuisance.More often the vikings faced local militia or w/e the local noble could muster up even if they could react in time...Most often they failed to even engage the raiders at all they needed minute men what they had was 1 or 2 day men... That and its much cheaper for producers to make few full time blacksmiths exists today.I agree though more chain armor would be nice but local militia would of had the cheapest armor like plated leather represented in the show... The Franks in season 3 sure! could have used more maille.If filmed in California they would have access to proper props in volume.Filmed in Ireland on a cable TV budget its just not practical production wise.On that note the wardrobe and weapons are really good imo... While its annoying I accept the writers excuse and re watching it....Ya they look like crappy Militia lol

Spears were the most common weapon, still I see only one spear in the last battle against cavalry.
Double axes were more commonly used among the Vikings but the spear was also cheap to make so I get what you're saying
