- If you’ve ever fancied flying on a turboprop for a really long time, Air Greenland has just the flight for you. In a bid to maintain connectivity with the European continent, the airline has established an air bridge between Nuuk in Greenland and Copenhagen in Denmark, to be operated once every couple of days. The flight, taking over seven hours in total, is operated by a De Havilland Canada Dash 8 turboprop.

The little red plane that could.
Yeah, tip of hat to the company, the plane and its crews for this.
It's only a refueling stop in kef, and the flight is only for health personel and patients, and vital cargo. No other passengers are allowed.
There was no refuelling stop on these flights! It was nonstop! An almost empty plane made it possible
I’m not sure how they even did that with no lavatory on board.
The 8 on the Dash 8 doesn't lie
lol
This shade tho hahahaha
...but it had to stop half way for gas at 4 hours
A Dash 8 is actually quite a comfortable and quiet airplane. Much better than any regional jet certainly
If it's the modern Q (Quiet) version, like the Q400. That has active noise cancellation inside the cabin, and yes, it works very well! The original Dash 8s were super noisy to fly in, especially near the engines as I recall, while the Qs, while not great, are far better ("Quiet" is relative).
It depends. Newer Dash 8s have a noise cancellation system that makes them quieter in the cabin than some regional jets. But older Dash 8s without the noise cancellation system are louder.
3:28 the A330 is also too big to take off or land at Nuuk airport. That’s why it only ever flew to and from Kangerlussuaq before the pandemic.
Yeah, even when Nuuk's airport expansion is finished, it seems unlikely that anything larger than an A321 would be able to land and take off from there anyway.
DrDewott Air Greenland is buying an A330-800neo for operations out of the new airports in Nuuk and Ilulissat, starting from 2023.
Put JATOs on the A330😈... an arrestor hook should do the job on landing.
Lol unless rockets engines and stalling onto the runway xD
Wow, at 3:42, we can see a beautifull DHC-7!!! (OY-GRE)
First our fleet was made up of 7, but now being fazed out
The clip has sadly many missing or wrong informations! The A330 is currently under maintenance in France and the route was flown by Wamos Air temporarily for Air Greenland! But the A330 is longer under maintenance and they don't have any other option then to use the Dash8 planes. They don't transport passengers in them only cargo (for example Covid19 test because its not possible in Greenland to control the results there). Also the Air Greenland management said that a bigger plane will fly the route soon...
NICE JOB AIR GREENLAND
The Dash 8 is a good looking plane.
The best commercial plane imo.
A good report on a slightly unusual topic. These are the sorts of topics that add to the interest level of this channel.
Great video
I love your vids 😍 New sub here
I’ve flown Air Greenland’s Dash 8’s and the A330-2, great little airline!!!
Bravo Dash 8 👍🏽
Ouchie! I have spent 2 hours on one of these smaller Dash 8s once...
It is not something I fancy doing again if I can avoid it though.
I have done it twice. It was fine really. Just a bit cold, since they normally don’t fly so high.
The video title implied that it was a non-stop 8 hour flight, not an 8 hour trip with a layover.
Testament to the ability and durability of the Dash 8!
No flipping way. I flew a Dash 8 from Roanoke to Philly years go. It flies so low, you’re always in weather, and we hit turbulence that has made me a fearful flyer for life.
I did some paintwork on that plane @Exeter mro the rep for the airline is a nice guy!
Do you get the footage of these videos yourself? Great video!
actually its not for the regular person. Only if you have a permit or work for the government then you can order.
Been watching them on flightradar
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yea ja, these Green´s know how to hopp these Dash´s!
2.5 hours on a Dash 8 400 is rough. 8 hours sounds like hell.
with the Dash 8 Q200
I saw that specific plane landing at ekch and was thinking 'wtf', as they normally use the A330.
3:57 double voice
Back then, I saw a few DAT planes (Danish Air Transport) in Greenland, and if I’m correct I do remember a smaller jet (A320 or so?). Wouldn’t it be easier to lease this kind of jet? Though I think it was in Narsarsuaq, probably not Nuuk since the runway was too short. It was being modified to accommodate jets, anyone knows if it is done yet?
Construction has started. Will be finished in 2023.
Who else think that turproprop componies should try to put engines on theor turproprop planes,it could like the avro.
AGREED!...
@Brummiewellington to have maybe more range maybe go higher up .
@Brummiewellington I was talking about jet engine .
@Brummiewellington its turproprop and piston
They are using the dash 8, due to the A330 having maintenance done on it. Iirc it's on it's a check.
When they landed in BIKF (KEF) then it wasn't Reykjavík but Keflavík. Reykjavík has its own airport: BIRK.
Pretty cool. But dawm that sounds like hell
As long as it’s not windy, it’s ok. Otherwise the Dash 8 is the perfect opportunity to get sea sick on a plane a few minutes after start.
I've done 2 50-minute flights on the Dash8 and that was more than enough. I can't imagine being on one for 8 hours. Uncomfortable, cramped and incredibly loud.
We did on 2 ocations make a Nonstop flight from GOH to CPH! FYI.
Omg
What height do turboprops fly at? Is it the same as jet airliners?
The ceiling for the Dash 8-200 and -300 is 25,000ft; the -400 can get to 27,000ft.
Sorry for being 2 years late, but Air Greenland's Dash 8 Q-200 usually flies at 21.000ft. Ik it bcuz im from there, and also can see it on flightrader24
Wait a second I thought they used a wide body A330 for that route
No THANKS on a T~Prop!...😳😳
MashAllah Excellent
I think small plane flying capability not more then 1 to 2 hr
Depend of the aircraft doesnt mean small plane cant fly more then 5 hours
@@michellocci interesting
It's means ATR 72 plane can easily fly London to Istanbul to Dubai to islamabad
Of course with no passengers
What is ticket price?
What ever happens in greenland.
I get up
Snow
Eat
Sleep
Ouch, 8 hrs on an 8.
First flight was March 21st performed by OY-GRP. Please check your facts.
I would kms if I was that flight
i never flew in a prop plane as i live in melbourne and they dont fly. the first time i saw one was Air Canada in Vancouver
I think QantasLink operates the same type of aircraft in the video out of Melbourne.
will the route exiset arfter covier-19
No CPH-Nuuk have to high demand to be served by dash 8 and the airport in nuuk is too short for their a330-200
However GOH will be possible to fly too from keflavik with a dash 7.
Or you can fly Cph-sfj and then a local flight to nuuk.
Usually it’s an A330 from Kangerlussuaq (I know he said it but he never said where from and why. It’s because Nuuk runway has such a small runway. Also he didn’t say what the A330 was for :p)
There was no A330 here.
Brilliant video. I admire the idea but it's logic to do this when you think about it. Those Greenlandair pilots are true bush pilots of the arctic so why not?
Who else hear is their first time hearing this airline?
Heard about it after watch the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, where the main character flies on Air Greenland's (now retired) B757-200.
I only know this airline because of geography go
8 hours on a -8? No thanks!
I flew to Denmark from Nuuk 30 years ago. Bloody expensive 5100 dk. But they did upgrade me to business class. Fascinating country Gronland.
Of course if this flight was operated by a jet, it’ll only take 4 or 5 hours.
posted 8 hours ago
How does that plane have that much range
2:30
They have the plane fitted with extra fuel tanks
The nose is extended 20 ft so it arrives in Copenhagen earlier than expected.
cwg73160
Lol
@@cwg73160 😂😂😂😂😅😅
"green"land but a red plane
Could be a 7 hour bumpy ride.
Must be terrible in the winter. All that turbulence for 8 hours.
lets pray dampenic over by then!
I don’t think so. I have flown on a two hour trip with the same type. On such long distances they fly above the clouds and most of the bad weather. It is a good airplane.
Runar Andersen Which clouds were those? The ones under the Dash-8’s 25,000 feet service ceiling? You are in the weather all the time with those turbo props, unless it is a perfect day.
Victor Grasscourt : I disagree with you. I have used them many times for short distance and then you feel the weather. However on long distance, that I have done twice, it isn’t a huge issue. When you are above the snow, rain and wind.
How you done it? Then shut your hole then.
Runar Andersen I have been flying for an airline as cabin crew for over forty years, which included turbo props like the HS748. Currently I am licensed on the 787-8,9 and 10, B777-200&300 plus the 747-400.
You don’t know what you are talking about. Turbo props do not get above the weather. Jets do. Now go and grow up.
Wouldn't the crew have to stay in a hotel overnight? Seems to defeat the purpose of closed borders.
well at least its not 8 minutes on Ryanair
Twice as long as flying in an A330.
This is so annoying. Its two separate 3.5 hour flights separated by an hour fuel stop. Wtf is so special about that? This is how people used to fly back in the day when range was an issue. The 200, 300A and Dash7 have been doing this type of shit in the bush for so long. Nothing note worthy here, move on.....
Pan Am air crew that flew around the world in 2 months: Good try but you are still a noob
I thought they would do some air-to-air refueling crap
@Simple Flying, please see Carsten Krogh-Simonsens comment. You really need to update this video, it has many flaws. Also regarding the Air Greenland A330. The plane is having a check (C i think, not sure). There is cargo demand, therefore Hi-Fly is flying Greenland-CPH these days.
After reaching Greenland, could they keep going, to JFK, offering a 2 stop service between CPH and JFK? 😂😂😂
Copy, so NOT in fact an
Copy, so NOT an eight hour flight. Two 4 hr flights.
I think air Greenland 🇬🇱 has 2 A330 200s as of recently
They ordered a A330-800 NEO, it'll replace the -200 eventually (2021 if memory serves and the Corona crisis doesn't mess it up)
At least use a Q400
@Brummiewellington Yeah, I know. I would have worked out a wet lease or something.
They need connectivity to New York, DC, and Chicago, in preparation for the American purchase of Greenland!
Vomit comet
there is nothing epic abt 8 hrs in a dash IMO.
Sheduled, not Skeduled.
STAY HOME ! And wear masks if you go out, please.
