The Western Developers until 2012 are child protective services trying to help the series from it's abusive father. But then in 2012 they got full custody.
The way I see it the mother was murdered, protective services tried and failed and then FINALLY found someone who could actually help the poor babies and then Daddy Konami shot the new momma too
Why is Team Silent the mother and Konami the father? What if it's the opposite way? Why is the father always the bad bad horrible person image? The opposite kind of makes more sense in 2019 lol
Masculine traits tend to associate with aggressiveness. Feminine traits tend to associate with compassion. Of course, feminine people can be overly emotional, and masculine people can be overly violent. That's usually how the brain works.
like the ending lines of P.T. say: "Dad was such a drag. Every day he'd eat the same kind of food, dress the same, sit in front of the same kind of games... Yeah, he was just that kind of guy. But then one day, he goes and kills us all! He couldn't even be original about the way he did it. I'm not complaining... I was dying of boredom anyway, But guess what? I will be coming back, and I'm bringing my new toys with me."
I’m actually glad it never came out. I don’t want a first person Silent Hill game. It doesn’t fit the vibe of the series I didn’t want a first person main title Resident Evil game, either. 🤬
I'm glad it didn't come out, too. I don't want a Silent Hill game that's not made by the original members of Team Silent, even if it's made by Japanese developers. They wouldn't know how to make a "real" Silent Hill game. Instead, they'd make a spooky haunted house simulator with jumpscares.
Cavey Manta again, like my above comment said, PT was just an engine and feel test, to show some mechanics off and story beats. It would be third person and feature the town.
I still remember the first time I played Silent Hill. Rented it for the weekend. I plugged it in Friday night. I didn't sleep. I couldn't sleep. And everytime I heard static I would freak out. There was a heavy heavy fog the next morning. I refused to leave the house until the sun banished it away. Fuck you, Konami....you took an amazing IP and tortured it to death.
I can't remember how old I was, but I was young. Me and my cousin rented it for the summer while we stayed out at the lake. My parents stayed in the main, nice cabin, cabin and we stayed in an old, tiny, little shack across the road, because we thought it was fun! It didn't have a bathroom, so we had to walk outside to an outhouse. We played the second silent hill and the 3rd. I remember how thrilling and terrifying it was to go outside in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom..... its honestly one of my favorite memories, I've loved this game since What a great summer!!
RE could do that because people actually paid for their Action games more than the horror ones RE5 is still the most sold RE game of all the franchise. Yet people spit on it like a monster XD see how fucking retarded fanboys are, they're blind by everything. SH sold nothing, their best games was only balanced sales, they never broke ground they always struggled, no one bought SH games. It was so niche, it only got cult statue on internet and mannnnnnn some people are fucking ass holes to praise SH while they probably never played one really or bought one.
Izumi kajiura "people actually paid for their action games more than the horror ones"? Resident Evil 7 is much more horror than previous games and a lot of people bought it. Also I saw some of your other comments and all you do is say "retarded fanboys" and it makes me really sad for you.
At least it's ended on a little bit of a higher note with the DLC it had with Dead by Daylight. I know everybody would rather have P.T. but at least there was thought and care put into the content from that DLC
At the very fucking least they are not acquiring dozens of intelectual properties and incorporating other developers in order to throw them in a pile of stinking trash :V. But, killing 3 huge series like SH, MG and Castlevania... What a desvastator toll.
Konami is a million times worse then EA. At least EA makes games. Hell EA gave dead space 3 tries and a huge budget even though the games never quite took off.
I pray that someday we'll see a new proper Silent Hill game. Broke my heart when Silent Hills was cancelled. I think our best hope is for Toyama to make a fourth SIREN game with Sony. I didn't care much for Blood Curse, but I thought the first two SIREN games were fantastic.
Nitro Rad I am a big fan of your work, your videos helped me get into the series. What do you think about konami shutting down the fan PC remake of PT.
Slimy_the _horrible_Guitarist the guy who got his project shut down said the Konami employee mentioned a new interest in Silent Hill among employees, and he was hired himself. I think this is a good sign as thats how REmake 2 became a real thing.
I'm 37 now and my favorite memory of college was playing silent Hill 2 late at night, listening to crickets and ambient conversations across the grass field. I still listen to the OST every April as spring rolls in.
I still play just about all the soundtracks whenever I go for a long drive. For some reason I especially love listening to them when its rainy, and a bit chilly out.
"Instead of creating a Hollywood blockbuster designed to generate sales, the team would create a more intimate experience with a gripping story." See? That's exactly why SH is so special and that's why no matter how technology advances, a true art and a inspiring story is always the most important thing EVER. That's exactly why I would play SH1 rather than the shitty games we see today with advanced graphics.
Totally agree , ive always liked games , I had an Atari( I'm showing my age now lol ) I was 28 basically had 2 kids in a year , at the age of 4/5 I got the kids a ps1 it came with about 8 games , I put silent hill on and that was it I was hooked, my kids used to watch me play it , they played the racing games lol , but I loved it always bought them when they were released , I jumped between that and R.E , but as you say it's the story that nailed it , the static , not knowing what was round the corner , silent hill 2 directors cut was the best I thought , anyways I'm 51 now and still playing lol
Yep, something often forgotten today is that PS1 was definitely the worst system for graphics when Silent Hill came out on it, not the best. It was the oldest and weakest system versus its competitors. But with its age, developers also had a familiarity that opened doors to their creativity. The technical limitations of the console are brilliantly turned into effective horror devices such as the shrouds of fog and darkness, the lurching camera, and the roughness of the primitive 3D itself, it all gets used creatively, to enhance the experience. That's why the first game remains the best, despite technology advancing far beyond it now, it will stand forever in time as a piece of design genius. And let's not forget that RE1-3 on PS1 all had static backgrounds, the first actual 3D one was Code Veronica on the much more powerful Dreamcast. Silent Hill was the first to do survival horror in proper 3D I think.
Hell yeah bro. All these shitttttyyyy games nowadays like shitty as god of war and terrible fucking red dead 2. The only good games are games from the original NES!!
Honestly, Half Life 2 is a really boring game to play... especially with today's standards of gaming I just could not finish it in order to see the whole stupid story. The Halo series is very similar and has really surpassed everything Half Life 2 ever did gameplay wise. There is not a big enough market for this game other than to please the majority (old fans) and that is why I do not think there will ever be a Half Life 3 EVER in this lifetime. Unless they rebooted the franchise.
Coming from someone who probably played the game when it first came out or something? Half Life 2 is really overrated and extremely disappointing. The gameplay has not aged well compare to Halo: Combat Evolved, especially those damn vehicle sections. This is probably why there will never even be a remastered version unless they fix things. It has was too many problems that other games of 2018 standards have surpassed. A reboot with the same story elements but better gameplay is just what this franchise needs in order to become relevant again in 2018.
Actually the fans killed all those titles except metal gear Metal gear was killed by the company for sure but every other title the fanbase is just at fault as Konami is
@@kingi-sick2485 Yes it's the fans fault that things like the Silent Hill HD collection is fucking broken. Guess fans decided to have Hijinx Studios, a studio who Konami picked to handle the project at seemingly random (just look at the only things they have worked on www.giantbomb.com/hijinx-studios-llc/3010-6317/ ). Instead of having Bluepoint handle it, the same devs who did the fantastic MGS HD collection, and is known in general for doing a fantastic job with remasters/remakes. Or its Castlevania fans faults for the series being dead. Despite games like Bloodstained releasing, being great and financially successful. Showing that a GOOD Castelvania could be a success as well. Truth is that basically all the talented people that made the great games Konami used to publish aren't there anymore. Now Konami just shits out PES and maybe 1 other shockingly shitty game a year (just look at the last contra game they released).
Silent Hill 1-4 aren’t games. They’re a trip down your darkest nightmares. In Resident Evil you fight the monsters. In Silent Hill, you might just be the monster.
for me 4 was the best. everything was regular creepy but those ghosts were lit scary when they come. they could've made a good SH game just by taking notes from 2,3,4. Wtf was 5 doing
Pro Evolution Soccer is all they've got left and even with that, the only thing that goes up in the game mentioned is the system requirements. Just compare (PES 2016/2017/2018). "The higher system requirements, the better." - Konami
These games will only truly die if we let them. Keep playing them, keep uploading them, keep talking about them. Make sure that the next generation devs and studios remember them and are inspired by them! By doing this we can ensure the spirit of Silent Hill lives on, even if it’s in a game that doesn’t share that sacred title.
Lets all agree sh3 was the worst out of 1-4 and that enhanced graphics wasnt enough to put it over sh1 with its poor direction and monster choices, not to mention poor characters at that and killing of harry mason was beyond a terrible idea
@@dreadxplayzs7849 I think most people do not agree with that statement but we're all entitled to our own opinion. For me the best to worst is 2,1,3,4 ... I love them all though.
Nah, Konami is much worse. EA milks 'till their expectations of the sales don't meet with the actual numbers so then they can give themselves permission to abandon that developer. Konami, on the other hand, spews out small budget games in large quantities, I think their average number of games they make per year is around 15-25, give or take. And it's mostly no-names, nobody gives a fuck about. There are big titles like MGS and I think they own some other franchises like Pro Evolution Soccer or something similar to it, the list goes on. The difference is, they milk that shit by doing all of that by themselves. They don't hire another dev team to do their dirty work (not something to be proud of, considering all their shit is... shit). Basically, Konami is using mobile market approach to their home console/PC games development, which never worked before and hardly ever will. Me: Remembers that we have LoL and DOTA 2. Nevermind, every field of work has an exception to the rule. Scientists still trying to find the cure for stage "LoL" and stage "DOTA 2" cancer, unfortunately, these 2 are too strong. Takes time to eradicate a desease from the face of the world.
Mr. Reality Helll no, Kojima is like that first kiss in jr high even though she already had a boyfriend (MGS) & you stayed in touch with her over the years. Then finally getting that 1st date with her as an adult (PT) thinking you found the soulmate you always knew she could be, only to have her move away right after due to a new job. Then you look her up again 2 years later and see that she's doing well (DS) but she could have done better had she stayed . I'll be the 1st to admit that was an autistic analogy.
I still hold Silent Hill 2 as the most brilliant game I've played and my personal favorite. It's been nearly two decades since I first played it and still find it hard to shake to this day.
i totally agree 2 was by far the best in the series. the psychological element of it was the most interesting konami could've ended the series there and been heralded
People obsessed with money can not work well with people with compassion for the art/technology of the project. Accountants are useful, but only as a adviser and locked in the back room.
Screw you. As accountant as well, I feel nothing but grudge toward Konami for the death of many good games. If I ever become an accountant who worked in Konami at time of P.T. Silent Hills debacke, I'd send my resignation to Konami and apply to Hideo Kojima Production instead
this post is old, but i just want to clarify, this is supposedly not the fault of an accountant at all, it is the marketing or advertising team(the reason social media is fked up), that may have mismarketed the product or the project manager that messed it up, not accountant, they are innocent, peace
I grew up with the Silent Hill Series and absolutely fell even more in love with it as I grew older. Compared to other Survival Horror games, Silent Hill had heart and it was scary on a different level. Every Silent Hill after 4 tried recapturing the feel of the originals by Team Silent but they couldn't fulfill it's legacy. I own every Silent Hill game and can tell you that Silent Hill 1,2,3, and 4 were probably the best Horror games ever made. Silent Hill 2 holds a special place in my heart for being the first horror game I ever played. Knowing this series has fallen makes me sad that a company just let this gem of a franchise fall into nothing. With the cancellation of Silent Hills, it is absolutely mindbending to think that this series would have been there for a new generation. I love this franchise and I believe it deserves more than what it got. This franchise deserves another chance. Thank you for making this video.
Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid... both killed by Konami. Sometimes I really wonder what's going on there in the office. Is all the criticism on Metal Gear Survive, the SH HD Collection as well as Homecoming/Downpour just going over their head? Both SH2 and MGS3 were turned into pachislot machines. If you would've told me this in 2005 where SH 1-3 and the Metal Gear series was at it's prime with MGS1-3, I would've dismissed it as a really bad nightmare but here we are.
orig4mi - I am old school, OLD SCHOOL, and a lot of my gaming memories are from Arcade games and home consoles such as NES/SNES/Turbografx16/Sega Genesis and besides Nintendo, Square, Capcom, and Rare, Konami was my all-time favorite developer/publisher of all time. Many of my all-time favorite games were Konami-developed and or published. It hurts me that chances of an arcade compilation for current gen or next gen may never happen. I lot of gems never ported to home console or that have Will elements and content altered and/or taken out.
NYCJoeBlack I am a fan of retro games myself and also grew up with my SNES and the Genesis. Konami was a very big name back then, not just for Metal Gear and Silent Hill on the PS1 but for hits like Contra and Castlevania. I am a 90s kid and the only arcade games I played were fighting games, but even back then at a young age I associated the company names with the quality of the product and Konami was one of the big names I had in mind when it came to great games. Right now, Konami is led by bankers - idiots that do not know how to handle video gaming as part of popular culture. With the increasing popularity of indie titles and love for everything retro that has developed itself in many hearts of gamers over the years - hence all those nice HD collections and 'classic' releases - it hasn't occured to them that there are LOTS of games they could still make something out of, and here's the deal: I personally believe the way Konami is handling everything now, they are not capable of it. A new Contra game could be a disaster as much as a new Castlevania game would. A rerelease may get lucky, as MGS HD Collection was treated with care, but it can also go horribly wrong as the SH HD Collection did. Personally, I'll stick to emulators. I can not forgive the murder of my favourite franchises and Konami is not getting a single penny from me anymore.
Silent hill 1 & 2 are experiences that will remain with my for the rest of my life. Not because of the excellent horror but instead the deeply emotional experience seasoned with the profound sense of dread I felt. Hearing the letter from James wife almost make me cry, even today.
i love the first 3 games i actually decided to give SH4 a chance a year ago. It's decent imo but the first 3 are way better! I truly wish Team Silent was still around to produce amazing SH games.
awww then something in you resonates with. make sure you clean that part up so it won't touch you that much. If you can feel it it means you still have some issues that resonates whenever if it's a song or a letter. It can be deep... from past lives etc.
I did cry during Silent Hill 2. The only other game that has made me cry was Legend Of Zelda : Ocarina Of Time xD, I cried when I finished that game. I love games that are able to evoke so much emotion from one person, alone in their room. So much awesome.
In terms of a concept, Silent Hill 4 is one of the most deeply thought provoking games I have ever experienced. I would go further as to say that it is the greatest portrayal of depression and anxiety executed in any video game, ever.
When you hear Mary reading the letter at the end of this video, it’s as if she is describing the Silent Hill franchise. “You promised me you'd take me there again someday. But you never did.” Konami never did!
You missed a few little factoids about Origins and Homecoming. Origins, at one point, became a strangely satirical game that was said to have emulated the stylings of the comedy-drama series "Scrubs", which was part of the reasoning for the teams being changed and the game retooled into what we ultimately got. Homecoming, meanwhile, had possibly the most bizarre early stage development. The game was originally meant to be a trilogy, with the name "Homecoming" signifying the start of the storyline, which was to see many past characters returning, including Heather and revealing that the character of Elle was a grown up Laura from Silent Hill 2, wearing James signature green jacket. However, the strangest thing about the game was the central dilemma that would have driven the story; a conflict between Alex's brother Josh having (as stated by Tomm Hulett) a "Dragon Ball Z-style battle" against a revived Alessa, with the two having the powers of water and fire respectively. I have to say, kind of curious how the original concept would have panned out, as silly and stupid as it sounded.
Jason Voorhees .... dude, CHILL THE FUCK OUT! You're sounding like a fucking character from Silent Hill at this point. Konami is already dying, and most of the staff that made them great are long gone.
Maybe it's dying at the video games branch, but Konami is more than a game developer. It's a big corporation that extends into other areas as healthcare, gyms, fitness clubs, you name it - not to mention the well-know pachinko machines, that are literally their money making devices. It pains to me to admit that Konami will comfortably live on, even if eventually get completely out of the video games scene.
@@Blackhawk211 Mind giving me a link where I can see it's stated that it's a sequel? Because I've been following Scorn since its announcement and have never heard of it being linked with Agony, ever.
Man the ending for 2 always got me, with the actress reading the letter. Especially upon learning that she actually began crying while reading; I wish the newer games in the series had the same dedication and love like the first 3. :( That being said I did quite enjoy Origins for psp. Illusions In Me by Akira is one of my fav songs.
I think the silent Hill franchise in general has the best soundtrack of all time. The first one especially Sadness Will Continue (Main theme), second one Theme of Laura and Promise Reprise, the room with Elizabeth providing the amazing vocals and different music. MGS has some good music too but nothing tops SH
All the scares in the series will not match the opening 15 minutes of the first game. The way the camera panned and used disorientation as a way to increase tension in that scene was so far ahead of its time.
I salute you. Words of wisdom. I got instantly hooked playing it back in 1999 because there was *nothing* like it in games at the time. The sequels never quite matched that.
Principal Logic That "argument" of yours is moot. Why is it moot? Let's go through this step by step shall we? 1. ROFL , ok you're off to a bad start right off the bat. How old are you, 14? In the *real* world people don't start *any* argument with ROFL. Get real. 2. "that blocky piece of shit was horrible" Subjective opinion based on an obvious fixation for details rather than an astute understanding of underlying structures, storytelling and cinematography. So, now we know you're superficial and shallow too. You're sinking here - that is if you're even *for real* to begin with. 3. "People are always trying to give the first games too much credit." It's not *fashion* we're talking about here, at least TRY to come across as halfwitted. As for "first games" - RE2 was the second game. Something tells me you lack scope in life - not just in games. Now, you have neither an argument nor a point. Somebody should have told you just shouting a subjective opinion isn't kinda the same as making an objective argument with a balanced and fair assessment - which you're pretty frickin' *far* from. Normally I wouldn't sink to your level but I'm also of the belief that being grand and reasonable is totally wasted on a cretin. The name principal logic means you're either a troll - i.e. somebody who posts something stupid or offensive on purpose to stir up s*it or to see if somebody will take the bait. It's always wise to suspect that somebody annoying is just fooling around, littering the net and wasting everybody's time (including their own). Now for your sake I hope you're a troll. A troll can stop trolling. Even if it's some sort of outlet or addiction it's hardly permanent. I hope you're a troll for your sake, because if you're *serious* then you're quite clearly a cretin, a fool, a nincompoop. Get lost. Grow up. Stop littering. End of story.
silent hill 1 was superior to resident evil in horror graphics may have not been as refined but they didnt need pretty graphics just fog and static were enough to be creepy
Quality of graphics is nice but doesn't really mean much at the end of the day. It's the game design, concepts, and ideas that make a game great. Especially in the horror genre.
While i agree it was promising, and i'm pretty sure it would've been an AMAZING game if finsihed, i have my doubts as a Silent Hill game. All we've seen in the PT besides the Norman Reedus cutscene in the end, had little to nothing to do with Silent Hill at all. Guess we'll never know anyway.
Eloy Librada Llobregat PT was simply a tech demo. It was not meant to have any significance or relevance to the actual game they were planning. It was just a chance to experience what they were capable of creating. It’s one of the greatest horror experiences you can ever find
@@darrenayotte Which i never denyed. It was a great horror demo, but it still had little in common with other Silent Hill games. I loved it, don't get mw wrong. But we would just never know.
seeing how these guys from team silent lived that period of their lifes, what a thrill it must've been. akira yamaoka by example, walking in the studio, recording tracks for a game that would turn into a classic, using that universe ibanez, oh boy...
I've always loved the Silent Hill soundtrack. It was one of the first horror games we played that made us scared to pick the game back up. We were disappointed more and more with the later releases but had hope for Silent Hills. The problem is, no one wants to put the time into the games anymore. They want to make it fast and push it out for quick sales.
Silly little girl, do you really think you can insult a troll under the internet’s bridge? Your already covered in shit, keep walking before we make you drink your own period blood.
I remember being 10 and playing this with my cousin in the room (Same age as I) late at night and we were too chicken shit to play it alone so we always played it at night together because that was the only time we got to play video games. I remember hearing the buzz from the transceiver and it scared the shit out of me. My cousin got scared too and he hid under the blankets. moments later he fell asleep and I was too scared to play since I was the only one awake so I would turn off the game and sleep too lol
Same with me friend. I was always too scared to play these games and too inexperienced that I never got to finish these games. I wish they made remakes for them like resident evil so that I can play them and finally finish the whole story
I had similar experiences with the Resident Evil games in the '90s. Except when RE1 came out in 1995, I was too scared to play it AT ALL, and only watched my older cousins play it. I still ended up having nightmares afterwards, lol. 😅 (The first survival horror-game I ever played through by myself was RE3: Nemesis in the year 2000 when I was 14.) It sounds ridiculous, but you have to remember there was nothing like these games in the early-'90s. The idea of "being inside of" a horror-movie was a totally new experience.
I've played the original trilogy, plus four. I wasn't impressed with the room. Anything after 3 is garbage. The first movie was great, & the second one had me hoping for a third, but you're right- it was the herald of the end. I love the series & hate to see it end like this.
Silent Hill 2 offered a difficulty setting for the puzzles, and a separate difficulty setting for combat. I always chose hard for puzzles and easy for combat, and in truth I never struggled with the combat on the easiest setting - but the game still scared the shit out of me.
This is really damn good. It's always been heartbreaking to watch the series die. My entire back tattoo is silent hill and another silent hill tattoo on my thigh. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan.
When I originally read the article about Konami making the Silent Hill pachinko machine, I thought it was a satire article. And thought that for years. And every time people mentioned it, I thought they were referencing that satire article. And now you are telling me it's for real? Real life is more absurd than a parody sometimes...
Konami's logic: Employee: "Boss, I think we should make a remaster version of one of the first 3 Silent Hill games" Executives at Konami: Nahh. We should make "Metal Gear Survive". -.-
Mr. Reality you are a salty ass person BOY, every comment you made in the video just shows how salty you are , and just because someone gets like on their comment arguing you doesn’t mean it’s a bot lol !!
The end of this video made me cry because I really have a lot of love for the franchise. It's sad to think that I may never get another Silent Hill game.
I listened to that into piano on an MP3 player everyday as a kid. It was the most beautiful thing id ever heard. Now I haven’t heard of it in maybe 5 years. I don’t understand why if something works in one country, you wouldn’t leave it there?
A series that had been scaring and immersing people for 13 years gets turned into a Pachinko machine , ggets a comedy Multiplayer hackNslash and gets it's light in the darkness snuffed out before it could shine, Yer it's depressing
Yes yes it was lol. I was able to reninebse fri. Sh1-4 and then the depression started lol. However 5 was ok it wasn’t horrible and I still like origins but SH 8 completely lost me.
Anyone still mourning the loss of Silent Hills? Could have been the greatest Silent Hill of all time. P.T. I still have installed and will never remove it. It's a gem.
me :'( i cant get over it....i want it back so so bad! after homecoming which I did enjoy ...went down hill....downpour was not good at all to me...but i am such a SH fanatic i support anything and everything they come our with
silent hill 2 is still one of the single finest examples of horror in the gaming medium IMHO, their use of atmosphere and psychological horror is pretty much unmatched to this day ...
Since Resident Evil is making a comeback with the remakes of their first 2 games, it would be great if Konami would at least give the rights to another team and make the same style of remakes with the first 3 games... a man can dream.
I would love an over the shoulder style reimagining of Silent Hill 2 and 3 just like RE 2 and 3. It’s the perfect time for it, but Konami is the only barrier in the way of that dream.
When it comes to graphics, Silent Hill 3 is probably the most gracefully aged game on PS2. I mean, god damn, it still looks amazing. It also has one of the best and most realistic female protagonists in gaming history.
I agree. They didn't just portray a female protagonist like a man which is the majority of game devs from what i've seen. Men and women are different biologically and Silent Hill nailed it! Heather was still kickass without being super masculine
First one I played was Silent Hill 2, it had just released and I was just 8 at the time and rented it for a week from Blockbuster. To say it was the scariest game I had ever even imagined at that time is an understatement. 8 year old me panicking in the maze-like hallways in the apartment building, running from Pyramid head, etc. Unforgettable memories!
SIlent Hill 2 ...... what an masterpiece. After all this years i can still remember this game, thanks to the great story, atmosphere, music and the TENSE gameplay.. I think it is the only game that could scare me.. Good ol days :)
Never had an PSX back in the days, so i played only SH2 and SH3. But strange enough i dont remember much from the third one... so i cant say it's a masterpiece or not. Silent Hill 2 i still remember the characters, locations and story... for me still the classic :)
It's like Kmart: You start out as a great, new idea; unlike anyone else. You offer something fresh that no one else has. You wow your customer with an unique and engaging experience. You give that customer a great reason to come back again for more. But over time, your company vision starts to fade; especially after your original staff and ultimately owners leave the team. You get cocky and rusty and forget your original mission. Like Kmart, they forgot their original mission drive and just end up pissing everyone off now.
No youd be screwed if you payed for silent hills and never got a refund when it got cancelled really the only ones that got screws was konami cuz really whats making them money anymore since metal gear and silent hill being their best titles
I’ll never forget the first time Silent Hill fascinated me. I was little, but I used to sit on the couch & watch my uncle play video games in the living room. He played all the resident evil games, tomb raider, metal gear solid, you name it. But when he played silent hill.. I wasn’t always allowed to watch lol. I was maybe 6 at the time, but I would sneak a peek from under my blanket etc. As I got older, I got into resident evil, the first one I played on my own was RE4. Around that time, I had asked if I could plug in the old PlayStation to play silent hill 2. He said it was fine, but that it’s such a psychologically terrifying game. I remember him saying how the random cries and noises used to get him. It was the one game he couldn’t play with the lights off lol. I too cannot play most of the silent hill games with the lights off lol. One of my favorite memories is when we randomly went to GameStop and he bought us a PlayStation 2, our other one broke. He said I could choose a few games, and I asked for silent hill 4. That night we played till the sun came up and he baked so many cookies, I had a stomach ache the next morning.. I ate like 15 that night lol. I’m now 28, and to say that I’m excited for the silent hill games that have been announced is an understatement. I hope they’re as wonderful as the classics, however I know we cannot always get what we want. My uncle had a brain aneurysm last Monday, and it’s been a scary time for my family and I, despite our worries he’s doing very well. He’s a tough stubborn cookie, but I got very emotional just thinking about how wonderful of an uncle he’s been to me. All my music taste and love for videos games comes from him, and it’s mostly shaped me to become the woman I am today. Whatever the new silent hill games are, shitty or not shitty, I’ll love them. All because of the deep feelings silent hill brings to me.
Yeah i know about that... but what i mean is a proper Remake.... not just a Remastered version..... just like what Capcom did with RE remake and now the upcoming RE2 remake........ but thats now gonna happen anytime coz Konami is Konami.... and they suck.....
This HD port is universally reviled by fans and newcomers alike. The games are rife with glitches, slowdowns, graphical mistakes, things not working right, the problems, graphical mistakes..it's really is the most catastrophically disgusting port in the Gamestown Port District.
Whats weird is this guy that is doing the narrating in this video sounds almost exactly like the guy who was doing the radio broadcast about the murders playing on the radio in PT.. "Don't touch that dial. We're just getting started."
Oh! I played P.T just once. But I agree! The beta was very memorable. After RE 5 & 6, I was longing for a good, real horror game. Too bad it didn't happen.
@@richyroa On the bright side Resident Evil 7 brought Resident Evil back to being a horror game again ^_^ .At least Capcom is starting to listen to the fans again.
@Amadeus Eisenberg How did it trashed the series? Honestly it brought it back, the atmosphere, tone, were such like the classic, even the puzzles and the gameplay. Hell even RE2 remake is using stuff from RE7. Some im curious where you think it trashed the series, cause I don't see your logic at all.
Thank you so much for covering the Silent Hill series. It's difficult to believe that the Silent Hill series has all but disappeared and that P.T. amounted to nothing more than bitter disappointment, but we'll always have the original Team Silent games. They're absolute classics and you've done them justice (so far in the video anyway :P )
If Team Silent would ever want to crowdfund an OG Silent Hill (which I bet can't happen cuz copyright #FUCKONAMI) I would literally throw my money at the screen.
I played the original Silent Hill with a friend a few months back. When I told him it was Japanese he was surprised, saying it "doesn't show." Which is true, and surprising indeed. Usually there's always a quirk or two that betray the Japaneseness in Japanese games, but in this game there's about none. It could just as well have been made in the US, in England or wherever in the West. The developers managed to rise above their culture and put together a truly universal vision, which is astonishing. I've never seen another Japanese game accomplish this and I have immense respect for the people behind it.
Well Team Silent were trying to do just that - make a game that appeals entirely to an American, or at least Western audience. This in part due to Konami's little rivalry with Capcom. They were wanting to outdo Resident Evil, including the way it was presented. I like to think they succeeded. But even more than that, Team Silent redefined survival horror. Sure you had an unlimited amount of space in your inventory (unlike RE), but it truly played with your psyche. That's why the initial Silent Hill games were so successful. Resident Evil was never too big on the psychological elements of horror games. It was inevitable, with the way the series leaned from the very first game, that a more action-oriented style of gameplay would come about. Silent Hill, while appealing to a Western demographic, somehow managed to keep the essence of what made it stand out all the way until Team Silent disbanded. And in the end, I guess RE is still on top. I think it is because of the lack of control and direction that Team Silent originally had, that they were able to do truly amazing and yet unconventional things to progress the genre. Now RE has retconned itself a bit with RE7, using a new first person style of gameplay that is already so common. It's no wonder Konami didn't even bother trying to compete. By the time RE7 came out, they had long abandoned Silent Hill and no longer gave a shit. No studio, no development team, no matter how devoted the fanbase is, we'll never get a proper revival of the Silent Hill series. If we do, it will have to be something along the lines of what RE7 did to truly revolutionise the series and take it in a new direction. But again, with the track record of Western developers (that ultimately missed the point of Silent Hill, what made the games what they were, and so on and so forth), that just won't happen.
"I can't tell you to remember me, but I can't bear for you to forget me" when the credits rolled. Brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy having experienced Silent Hill 1, 2 & 3 when they were released, rather than having to try the sheer horror of the HD collection. Why can't Konami sell the series to someone who actually cares?
Might happen. year or two ago, heard Konami's on their last legs, and that Capcom or Sony might be interested in buying the company. If true, then there's big hope for Silent Hill
Agreed. SH2 had me creeped out for a minute or two before entering some areas. CoF had me staring at a door for 15 minutes dreading what was on the other side.
CoF was one, if not THE ONE most intense game experience I've ever had. I was always thinking of Silent Hill because even if I played it on daytime it haunted me as much as Silent Hill did. The whole crafting and appearence of the game always reminded me of the first Silent Hill games in a positive way. Somewhere in the YT comment section I read: "At the end I cried and feared another try." This pretty much sums up my feelings about Cry Of Fear.
Konami... please... at the very least sell silent hill to Capcom. Let them handle things as they are now handling RE2. I would be glad with a Silent Hill 1 2 and 3 remake like RE0 and RE1 had
Lmao dude capcom is konamis retarded brother they aint handling resident evil all that well themselves resident evil 2 remake is the only goof game they made since revelations 2 also capcom is more on gameplay which means even they will port more action into silent hill if they got the rights to it especially in those remakes your wishing for. You should understand what capcom is before thinking they will do any better than konami was doing
@@kingi-sick2485 Re7 was good, and recently they've hit their stride with the series, re3 remake is already in development. The original re trilogy is a much better GAMEPLAY experience than the original silent hill trilogy ever was, its honestly not even a comparison in terms of viewing the games as survival horror. They could easily take the Ip and improve on several areas, but i feel they'd have to find and hire the right people for the classic silent hill atmosphere, and the excellent storytelling. Also the entire creation of re2 was to cater to original fans, and action was obviously toned down compared to 6 or 5, why wouldn't they do the same for silent hill fans. It won't happen tho, at least not for a loooong time.
@@liambrown3249 Capcom isn't really different from Konami they all have 1 mind set ant that's what idea will make us more money they don't understand passion anymore and when they actually try they always fuck something up like with RE7 no its not good it's a rushed last minute game made to see what fans really want with easy puzzles that are interesting but offer no type of challenge gunplay which is so trash it's almost unplayable bad graphics but 2 good looking cut sense and such awful characters and voice acting and dialog game barley offers fun and just offers shit copy cat ideas from games they don't own except 1 RE1 with the shot gun puzzle oh yeah so not lazy at all And jumpscares pulled from game and movies like Blair witch and a little ghost girl straight out of F.E.A.R hell there's even a few jumpscares from that game in RE7 It also copies dead space silent Hill hills have eyes outlast and so much more yup so original and not lazy at all Also do you even get the point of silent Hill and RE games no duh RE is more fun you are a trained officer or special agent thrown into a zombie and monster scenario in silent Hill your a nobody who never got in a single fight RE isn't never was and probably never will be scary sure RE2 REMAKE had some creepy moments and so did like 2 other RE games but that's it Silent Hill was terrifying and knew what it needed to do to make the player feel like your in a fucked up world with no way out RE wasn't like that RE was supposed to be fun silent Hill isn't supposed to be fun silent Hill is supposed to be scary and interesting and beautiful in many ways where RE is fun yes but that's it stories ain't good characters ain't interesting except maybe Ada and wesker levels don't have that atmospheric feel of horror to it except maybe the remakes and 2 parts in 4 and 1 in Leons campaign in 6 silent Hill has scary atmosphere and when it doesn't and it's supposed to be a calm part of the game where your done with the scary shit for now the town still is creepy and still makes you feel like your fucked cuz sooner or later you have to go back to the other world characters are interesting and stories in almost all of them are masterpieces or just really good or just good or in homecoming just ok the only thing RE has over silent Hill is game play and monster designs and that's it that's pretty much it

Its sad, the ps2 versions of silent hill was the scariest. The more advanced the consoles got, the shitter Silent hill got. All they had to do was watch the movie.
I don't understand why people want sequels. Silent Hill 3 had beutiful end to the series and it was meant to be THE END. The credits song was a remix of the the first games main song. Silent 4 is just a good side story.
Because once you fall in love with a certain feel and style, you tend to grave for more. And seldom is replaying the same game for the 50th time the best solution for this.
what a sad story and sad destiny for one of the most iconic franchises in the history of gaming I'm not even a Silent Hill fan but still this video broke my heart, it was hard to see how such a strong franchise get weaker and weaker by each game until finally unfairly being putted down... RIP Silent Hill, RIP...
I finally got my hands on sh2 few weeks ago and completed it last week and right after the end I knew I witnessed a masterpiece, wish they would be able to get a good team to remaster sh 1-4
Legitt play 3 next, another masterpiece. Bit yes 2 may be the best overall in terms of story and memorable/haunting but beautiful moments.. Silent Hill homecoming isn't bad, worth a play atleast ,but it's no SH 1-4 .
This is like you'll never forget your first love, the same can be said of game developers and their original games, if your first love is that of the original silent hills then its almost impossible to surpass that love because this is the emotions of the 1st love. its there it sticks it never leaves you forever always with you.
1 & 2! SH3 is basically a semi-remake of part 1; totally similar characters, totally similar plot, locations.. Brookhaven Hospital, the biggest location of the game, copypasted from part 2.. That's not to say I don't like it. I adore it, but 1 & 2 are the originals; two sides of the same coin..
I remember back in 2008 playing the entire series with my at the time girlfriend. Was quite a bonding experience. With the series dead and buried, it makes it incredibly sad to know we will never have something this special.
Exactly. There have been a few games to flirt with the atmosphere and melancholy that Silent Hill has, but none ever really captured the full magic. Examples: Sanitarium (for it's introspective story), STALKER (for it's otherworldly apocalyptic atmosphere), Pathologic (for it's weird abstract writing, world and commentary on humanity) and more recently Hellblade(for it's study on psychological issues).
Well that was a long time ago. That was a long relationship that lasted 4 yeas up until 2012. My current gf doesn't even like horror games =)) so I'm out of luck with repeating that. They are still beautiful memories so that's about it.
Is amazing how konami always had everything set up for greatness but they always manage somehow to make the worst most obvious bad decision possible, that takes some skill
Silent hill 2 will always be the greatest survival horror game of all time and 17 years later is still the benchmark for how to make a near perfect horror title. As much as PT’a cancellation sucked I think SH needs to just RIP. Team silent was the heart and soul of the franchise and without them there is no silent hill
There was a horror series here... it's gone now.
Just plain brilliant.
It's always the same, Konami! You're only after one thing! You don't have to lie, go ahead and say it!

Konami is like the father that hated their child and Team Silent is the mother that loved their child.
And when the mother died...
That's usually how the brain works.
like the ending lines of P.T. say:
"Dad was such a drag.
"In my restless dreams, I see that game, Silent Hills."
I’m actually glad it never came out. I don’t want a first person Silent Hill game. It doesn’t fit the vibe of the series I didn’t want a first person main title Resident Evil game, either. 🤬
Peanus Benis Silent hills wouldn't be first person I heard, only PT was just to demonstrate the feel of the atmosphere and game engine.
L Franco
Well im alone there now ,in our special place, waiting for you😵😲
I'm glad it didn't come out, too.
Fuck you, Konami....you took an amazing IP and tortured it to death.
im playin Silent Hill right now for my first time ever. i started on Silent Hill 2
i love this comment so much i cannot say
Everytime i played a SH game, my legs started shaking :o
I can't remember how old I was, but I was young. Me and my cousin rented it for the summer while we stayed out at the lake. My parents stayed in the main, nice cabin, cabin and we stayed in an old, tiny, little shack across the road, because we thought it was fun! It didn't have a bathroom, so we had to walk outside to an outhouse. We played the second silent hill and the 3rd. I remember how thrilling and terrifying it was to go outside in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom..... its honestly one of my favorite memories, I've loved this game since
What a great summer!!
Silent hill is a treasure and these shitheads at konami destroyed it i refuse to buy anything konami fuck em
This series deserves the treatment Resident Evil is getting right now.
Amen to that
Absolutely
It deserves more. It won't get any. Blame Konami and yourself for that.
RE could do that because people actually paid for their Action games more than the horror ones
RE5 is still the most sold RE game of all the franchise. Yet people spit on it like a monster XD
see how fucking retarded fanboys are, they're blind by everything.
"A Silent Hill pachinko machine."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, pretty much sums up what the series has tragically devolved into in the end. Sigh.

I remember a bit about playing the demo. Very scary. Forgot the series even existed. Does Toyama want to make another game?
He said he wants to return to another horror game in the future, since production on Gravity Rush 2 is wrapped up, it could be his next project.
I want Silent Hill. Siren was waaaaaay too slow for my taste. I couldn't get into it.

Moral of the story: Konami ruins everything.

No, it was Kojima fault.

Only a Catholic priest could defile my childhood harder than Konami.

Prism Skull my first horror game was Dead Space.
Izaiah Florés that is a modern classic but that series suffered much like Silent Hill.
Prism Skull it would've been wonderful if Dead Space 4's concepts were brought into fruition. Rip Visceral Games...
Izaiah Florés some of these companies just don't give a damn about fans or the games just money is all they want
Those later games were still really good and drew a lot of fans into the franchise as well.
You are forgetting Suikoden as well. An other MAJOR title
orig4mi - I am old school, OLD SCHOOL, and a lot of my gaming memories are from Arcade games and home consoles such as NES/SNES/Turbografx16/Sega Genesis and besides Nintendo, Square, Capcom, and Rare, Konami was my all-time favorite developer/publisher of all time.
Also *Castlevania*
Downpour was crazy underrated in my opinion!!

I did cry during Silent Hill 2. The only other game that has made me cry was Legend Of Zelda : Ocarina Of Time xD, I cried when I finished that game. I love games that are able to evoke so much emotion from one person, alone in their room. So much awesome.
A legendary psychological horror game that essentially was the first example of games as art reduced to a pachinko machine... Way to go, Konami.
I'm sure old men like Jiiya would love that.
This is the true psychological horror.

Honestly, I'd take it over what we got.
Some say this channel is the first thing a video game series sees after waking up in the ER.
Such a shame we'll never get that P.T./Silent Hills game... oh well. Great video, thanks for the memories!

.... dude, CHILL THE FUCK OUT!
There is a P.T. Remake on the web. Its pretty well made. You can find it on Gamejolt. Its named Corridors
Kojima's games are overrated anyway. I doubt that P.T. would suprass or even get close to legendary first 4 Silent Hill games.

End of story.
oof its just his opinion dude. no need to roast him to fucking ashes. he is an idiot with idiot opinions though
silent hill 1 was superior to resident evil in horror graphics may have not been as refined but they didnt need pretty graphics just fog and static were enough to be creepy

While i agree it was promising, and i'm pretty sure it would've been an AMAZING game if finsihed, i have my doubts as a Silent Hill game. All we've seen in the PT besides the Norman Reedus cutscene in the end, had little to nothing to do with Silent Hill at all.

If Team Silent would ever want to crowdfund an OG Silent Hill (which I bet can't happen cuz copyright #FUCKONAMI) I would literally throw my money at the screen.
I would drive up to their house, load up a hose with whatever money I could muster and spray it all over their garden, home and family members.
I suggest you look harder because it does look and feel japanese
I agree with Octave, and I don't think what he's saying is a bad thing.
I suggest you elaborate or gtfo, sir.
The game was inspired by American horror fiction. It is ironic that western devs didn't do well with the IP.
Silent Hill 2
Truly a surreal, haunting, and unnerving experience that has (in my experience) only paralleled by Cry of Fear.
puddel90 Cry of Fear is scarier. I can play through Silent Hill 2 alone in a dark basement. Cry of Fear? You'd have to pay me to
Somewhere in the YT comment section I read: "At the end I cried and feared another try."
This pretty much sums up my feelings about Cry Of Fear.
Konami... please... at the very least sell silent hill to Capcom.
@@kingi-sick2485 good...
Maybe you'll get a Silent Hill Survive next year
@@liambrown3249 Capcom isn't really different from Konami they all have 1 mind set ant that's what idea will make us more money they don't understand passion anymore and when they actually try they always fuck something up like with RE7 no its not good it's a rushed last minute game made to see what fans really want with easy puzzles that are interesting but offer no type of challenge gunplay which is so trash it's almost unplayable bad graphics but 2 good looking cut sense and such awful characters and voice acting and dialog game barley offers fun and just offers shit copy cat ideas from games they don't own except 1 RE1 with the shot gun puzzle oh yeah so not lazy at all
And jumpscares pulled from game and movies like Blair witch and a little ghost girl straight out of F.E.A.R hell there's even a few jumpscares from that game in RE7
It also copies dead space silent Hill hills have eyes outlast and so much more yup so original and not lazy at all
Also do you even get the point of silent Hill and RE games no duh RE is more fun you are a trained officer or special agent thrown into a zombie and monster scenario in silent Hill your a nobody who never got in a single fight RE isn't never was and probably never will be scary sure RE2 REMAKE had some creepy moments and so did like 2 other RE games but that's it
Silent Hill was terrifying and knew what it needed to do to make the player feel like your in a fucked up world with no way out RE wasn't like that RE was supposed to be fun silent Hill isn't supposed to be fun silent Hill is supposed to be scary and interesting and beautiful in many ways where RE is fun yes but that's it stories ain't good characters ain't interesting except maybe Ada and wesker levels don't have that atmospheric feel of horror to it except maybe the remakes and 2 parts in 4 and 1 in Leons campaign in 6 silent Hill has scary atmosphere and when it doesn't and it's supposed to be a calm part of the game where your done with the scary shit for now the town still is creepy and still makes you feel like your fucked cuz sooner or later you have to go back to the other world characters are interesting and stories in almost all of them are masterpieces or just really good or just good or in homecoming just ok the only thing RE has over silent Hill is game play and monster designs and that's it that's pretty much it
@@liambrown3249 also where did Capcom confirm that RE3 remake is in development cuz all I see is fans saying they should make it it would be amazing when really if it's gonna be like the original and the RE2 remake then really it's gonna be RE operation raccoon city meets RE6 cuz RE3 was an flat out action game with fixed cameras and tank cintrols
The ending audio is really perfect. The fan's soul truly wishes to witness such life changing art again. Thank you.
Its sad, the ps2 versions of silent hill was the scariest. The more advanced the consoles got, the shitter Silent hill got. All they had to do was watch the movie.
Agreed
Ye da reason da fog of sh1 is da limitations of ps1
Rest in peace Silent Hill, you gave us great memories ❤️
I am so sad. My LOVELY series is dead
Teemuslayer I just replayed all the first 4 games last week so I agree
Silent Hill: The Room is maybe the most underrated game in the franchise. Far away superior respect to Silent Hill 3 in a lot of aspects.
Federico Vesentini I heavily disagree as sh3 is my favorite of the series.
Agreed, I only count the first 4.
what a sad story and sad destiny for one of the most iconic franchises in the history of gaming
I'm not even a Silent Hill fan but still this video broke my heart, it was hard to see how such a strong franchise get weaker and weaker by each game until finally unfairly being putted down...
I will, I discovered lots of other good series like fatal frame so I have to try and get all but sh3 is the next game I will get
try silent hill origins to a good 1
i will after i will finish 3 4 and shattered memories
homecoming too maybe
One of the worst decision i made in my life: playing SH2 in the middle of the night with surround sound.
Or maybe the best horror experience
While stoned
@@FredDurst1 yes
Best* fixed it for ya
same here
One of my fav franchises in gaming. A damn shame how it declined in quality due to bad decisions.
Excellent video btw
This is like you'll never forget your first love, the same can be said of game developers and their original games, if your first love is that of the original silent hills then its almost impossible to surpass that love because this is the emotions of the 1st love. its there it sticks it never leaves you forever always with you.
I'm so glad this popped up in my feed
Silent Hill 2 and 3 are probably the best survival horror games ever made
That is not SH1.
Dont' forget about SH1.
*Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3. (How can you forget SH1..?)
1?????
You can always find another game series for you two to bond over.
Once you go to Silent Hill, there's no coming back.
Marry that woman! I could only imagine finding a girl with the patience and dedication to play all the silent hill games along with me.. :(
Well that was a long time ago.
Agreed, either get Team Silent back for a final game or just put it out of its misery.
now we are BACK.
Konami killed 2 series. Best of ones. The greed is powerfull and insidious killer ...
Silent Hill died with Team Silent. They made masterpieces; everything after missed the soul that made the series big.
Good news the creator of Silent Hill is making a new Horror game called Slitter head.
