      Again, I agree. To be sure, Keaton developed his unique "Batmoves" in direct response to the difficulties of working in the confines of the suit and cowl, but in doing so he created a wonderful other-worldly look that not only suited the Batman character perfectly, but also created a very effective decoy for his Bruce Wayne persona!

    The fact that many fans were upset when Keaton, known at the time as Beetlejuice, was cast as Batman shows why said portrayal works so well. Unlike Ben Affleck's and Christian Bale's versions, Michael Keaton's Bruce literally doesn't physically or psychologically appear to be secretly Batman at all, which makes his way of keeping his identity a secret all the more sense.

    • @revealingtruth3329
      @revealingtruth3329 Год назад +2

      You are correct in what you say and that point you made is excellent and ups Keaton’s case for best Batman. However the fact that he absolutely does NOT at all look like Bruce Wayne from the comics or cartoons has always been for me why he isn’t my favorite. Christian Bale is my favorite Bruce Wayne bcuz I think he captured Bruce completely in every way. And Affleck is a close second for Bruce Wayne cuz maybe nobody physically looks as much like Bruce as Affleck. Especially when you side by side Affleck’s Bruce against the animated series Bruce. Ridiculous how much he looks like him. However I have problems with both of their Batmans. Bale’s suit is my least favorite batsuit and his voice has literally become part of comedy sketches because it got more and more annoying over the course of the trilogy. Bale tried to do too much with his voice. And Affleck used a voice modulator which is corny and he was the only actor to do that. Plus his suit made him look fat at times because it was way too puffy. The design was great but they put too much fake muscle on it especially considering Ben got absolutely jacked for the role. You didn’t need to add that much fake muscle to it. It looked almost Zachary Levi Shazam-ish at times smh. I think Pattinson is the best Batman because for me he captured the essence of Batman the most. However he absolutely needs to add more muscle. He’s the one who should have had a padded up suit. Again his suit design was fantastic but he was too small muscle wise. And his Bruce Wayne wasn’t great but it is forgivable…..FOR NOW. Only because the director literally said he didn’t want him to care about being Bruce Wayne in this first movie. He literally only cares about being Batman. But he must start to give us a better Bruce Wayne moving forward in the sequels.

    The thing I appreciate most about Keaton's Batman is the Bruce Wayne Batman dynamic. You can see why anyone meeting Bruce would never jump to assuming he is Batman, even if they found out the vigilante uses only Wayne tech. He might be funding the guy, but BEING him? nah. Not the affable guy who has a banquet-sized room full of old suits of armor but can only tell you that he knows a certain suit is japanese because he bought it in Japan, or gets so flustered by a pretty secretary that he incorrectly thinks he's met before that he gets tongue tied and tells her that he "mistook me for somebody else". But, when you know the secret, both sides of his personality are cohesive. Neither/both are a mask. Bruce isn't some push over, even in his less threatening civilian persona. The meeting room scene with Max Shreck in the second movie shows that clearly, as does the fact that Vicki is worried but not too terribly surprised when Bruce takes on the Joker with a fire poker and challenges him to "get nuts". There is a clear but coherent sliding scale between socially awkward but ruthless business man with government ties Bruce Wayne, and Batman, who will encourage the lady he just saved from a tazer-weilding clown to kick the criminal while he's down but also asks someone how much she weighs before lifting them both with a grappling hook (and then corrects her later that she was low on her estimation). It feels like the same person. Keaton's Batman is one guy expressing different aspects of his personality at different times. It makes a much more believable character for me than the more modern take of Batman being the "true face" and Bruce Wayne being a put-on parody of the spoiled billionaire stereotype.

      I completely agree with you. Michael Keaton brought us a wonderful combination of the fabulously rich but socially inept, emotionally damaged Bruce Wayne and the brooding, anger driven, border-line insane vigilante known as Batman that other actors, good as they may be, have failed to capture. As I've often said, anyone who poses as a millionaire business man and socialite by day then dresses in a rubber bat suit to beat the stuffing out of criminals at night has to be just a little bit cracked, and Keaton's delicious manic edge, shown so well in the now famous "Let's get nuts!" scene, shows that up brilliantly!

    I’d argue that Batman didn’t kill the penguin in Batman returns. The penguin lost his footing in the swarm of Bats and fell into the sewage water where he chokes on the toxic waste shreck was dumping down there. At least that’s how I always saw it.

    Thank you for this spot-on analysis - and especially keeping it spoiler free for us who haven't seen the Flash movie yet.
    Please consider a similar video for the best animated Batman voice. A lot to be said for Adam West and Olan Soule who were great for the campy Batman. In the 1990s through the 2010s, though, no one can top the performances of the late Kevin Conroy.
    Michael Keaton was the first to play his part using two separate voices - one for Bruce Wayne, and one for Batman. Likewise, Kevin Conroy was first to do this in animation. With his passing, who is worthy of being the next Batman voice? Would Michael Keaton be willing and able to voice Bruce Wayne/Batman in any given animated Batman project?
    Interesting discussions can occur when considering the various animated voices of Batman over the years.

    Always liked Keaton as Batman from day one. You don't "mask" a superhero if he already looks like a superhero. The entire point of the comic-strip, was that a "Keaton", knew how to become, a "Batman".

    One of the reasons why I feel like Michael Keaton is an amazing Batman (saying his the best is a bit of a stretch for me, sorry) is that he treats being Batman as almost like a drug to cope with his trauma. Most characters view being heroes as a privilege or a responsibility, and the same CANNOT be said for Keaton’s Batman. A prime example of this is during the scene when Bruce is talking to Vickie in the Batcave and she asks him why he thinks he needs to go after the Joker, and he doesn’t really give a valid answer. It’s like a drug addict finding every excuse to get another hit.

    You can gleam all you need from Keaton and Nicholson from the first meeting Batman and Jack have in the movie. Plus, Keaton is the only Batman that can smile and still be intimidating.
    It does bug me that he kills, but based on all the information we have, it makes sense that this Batman would kill.
    Plus, he has the best Alfred.

    Kevin Smith's Analysis of why Keaton is the best is spot on. Keaton used many subtle tricks from eye movement to body language to portray the conflict within Bruce/Batman's mind.
    Keaton is the only one that you can cut all the scenes of him wearing the suit and you still know he is batman.

    Keaton objectively is the best Batman. Actually no, better than that- he’s the definitive Batman! I don’t give a shit if he doesn’t look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Being average height and lean has a bigger advantage over being tall and bulky. Plus, he makes Batman/Bruce Wayne feel like a real person. I remember being 4 years old and Batman the Animated Series came out. About the same time, Batman Returns came out on VHS for rent and I liked that Bruce Wayne/Batman on live action felt more believable. I liked that you can feel Keaton-Bruce’s pain without him telling you how he feels. He didn’t go out in gray spandex.. his suit serves an actual purpose- it’s a body armor. The Batmobile wasn’t just a fast car to get him to point A to point B, it was essentially a turbine powered tank that’s designed like a big sports car. Keaton’s Batman was simple but effective while embracing the theatrics of his persona better than any other version of Batman.
