    2012 Toyota Sequoia Review - In 3 minutes you'll be an expert on the Sequoia

    Sure, we all have our favorites...my favorite car would have to be a 1938 Alfa Romeo Mille Miglia 6C Spyder and my favorite SUV would have to be the current generation Toyota Sequoia with the 5.7 liter V8. This 381 horsepower motor might not numerically rival the competition, but put it in a truck as well built as the Sequoia and you have the stuff of legends. 10" clearance means off road adventures are child's play, while an incredibly smooth suspension matched with brakes that stop the Sequoia from 60-0 in 127 feet creat a level of confidence no SUV can touch. If you want to look like a millionaire, buy the Escalade. The Sequoia clearly isn't the right SUV if you want head turning style and eye-popping horsepower figures. If, however, you want merely the best SUV for the real world that money can buy, do yourself a favor and buy a lightly used Certified Sequoia and save over $40000 off of an Escalade, all while enjoying an SUV that will most likely be in better condition and worth more money 10 years from now than even a brand new Escalade, if you were to buy both today.
    Hi, this is Joe Tunney at Honda of Seattle and Toyota of Seattle, bringing to you a comprehensive catalogue of hundreds of great vehicles from throughout the automobile industry. Although we specialize in Acura, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, sports cars, SUV's and of course our beloved Honda product line, we also like to carry and review exotic cars from time to time like Ferrari, Dodge Viper, turbocharged all-wheel-drive cars like Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX, as well as affordable vehicles that fit into every budget. For 2014 we are going to make a point of reviewing everything we carry, demonstrating for you the interior and exterior features and condition, the wheels and tires, trunk space, as well as an overview of power, technology, economy and driving characteristics to give you factual information as well as information unique to this particular vehicle so that you can enjoy a more intelligent shopping experience without ever having to step onto the lot.
    A little about me. I have been the manager at Infiniti of Kirkland since 2004 and prior to that I ran a high end car boutique in neighboring Bellevue, Washington. For my career I have sold over 10,000 cars so I hope to bring you far more insight than you might ever know to even ask. I show you in some videos how to see if a car has been in an accident, how to make a great buy on a car with a bad Carfax, or why I wouldn't personally buy a car even if it has favorable reviews. Every once in a while I'll even have a little fun to keep the videos fresh but I want to make certain you know that you can always email me at joet@hondaofseattle.com.com if you ever have any questions or feel I have made a mistake or used poor judgment or poor taste.
    I am truly thankful for the hundreds of thousands of views and more importantly, perhaps much more importantly, I am honored to have been viewed in over 200 countries around the world. We all are ambassadors for the things we believe in regardless of where we were born and from my little corner of the world here outside of Seattle, Washington I want to express my sincere gratitude for you having invited me into your home, your place of work, or for simply taking a minute of your valuable time to listen to what I have to say. Maybe we will never meet face to face, but I am forever in your debt for giving me the opportunity to share with you the things I have learned.

    I have a 2011 Sequoia that I bought just before my third child was born. We wanted the second row bench, because it wanted to put three car seats across the middle row and it was one of few large SUVs that could do it. Since buying my Sequoia, my wife and I have welcomed three more children, so we now use all 8 seats and we love the vehicle as much as the day we bought it.

    Owned a Chevy Suburban 2500 4WD for 11 years. It had the 6.0 liter V-8 and was rated at 9400 lbs towing. Looking to get this "Japanese Suburban" with a more powerful 5.7 liter motor plus likely 2WD. I am trying to understand the 7400 lb towing limit. The 2012 Tundra pickup using the same frame, mostly same suspension, and same engine is rated to tow 10,400 lbs. If you haven't towed 30 foot trailers before that gross north of 6000 lbs, these numbers matter a lot. On flat ground in nice weather, go ahead and tow close to the vehicle's trailering weight limit. If you are going to tow in hot weather and/or hills, then extra margin is appreciated. I never regretted towing a 6400 lb fully loaded trailer through the Rocky Mountains with a 9400 lb rated vehicle. I had the unfortunate experience of towing that same fully loaded trailer through those same mountains with a 6600 lb limit truck and it was slow and miserable (windows down, turn off air conditioning when climbing steep slopes to avoid overheating the engine and transmission.) I expect the 2012 Sequoia frame can handle the twisting and bending forces of a load leveling hitch controlling a big trailer and the 401 ft-lbs of torque is plenty for closer to 9000 lbs of trailer weight.
    For the sake of comparison, the earlier generation 2007 Toyota Sequoia 2WD with the 4.7 liter V-8 was rated to tow 6500 lbs, just 900 lbs less than the second generation. Does anyone know why the second generation Sequoia towing limits are so low? As for "don't sweat it, tow as much as you like" that is not how I am going to run with my wife and children on board, especially in the mountains and the summer heat.

      I just purchased a 2010 Toy Seq Limited 2WD with the 5.7 L, and on that particular model, the owners manual shows the towing capacity to be 8,100 lbs + 1,000 lbs cargo for a total of 9,100 lbs. I'm not sure where the 7,400 lb rating is coming from.

    • @mujjuman
      @mujjuman 6 лет назад

      It's actually around 7200lb for the 2012 Sequoia 5.7 2WD, according to the manual.
      The 2012 Tundra is anywhere between 9000-10000 lbs.
      The reason why there is a difference is because although the Sequoia is on the Tundra platform, this platform is modified. That modification lowers the towing capacity. I dont know in what way the platform is modified, however.
      You might need to end up getting a pickup with a full size crew cab to suit your needs.

      The sequoia has a different rear end totally. It has independent A arms with rear coil over suspension on the lower end models. I have a platinum witch has the air bag(air ride) system instead of coil springs. witch tows as much as much as my platinum tundra. I pull the same 9500 lbs trailer with both vehicles no problem. So if you dont have air ride in your sequoia it's rated way less and will squat down on those springs. So go buy High lifter air aftermarket bags for inside the spings to bring it up to the platinum towing rates.

      @@qsteele40 What happened was in 2011 Toyota adopted the newer standard for tow ratings called SAE J2807. This new rating system (which wasn't forced on automakers, but some chose to follow) produced a much more practical real-world tow rating. The end result for Toyota was most vehicles were down rated some amount. The Sequoia went from 9000lbs to 7000lbs (depending on configuration) the V8 4Runners dropped to 5000 from 7200, Highlander V6 dropped from 5000 to 3500 etc.
