    Great Katana has an interesting interaction with impaling thrust. When you 2H, the ash fills the 1st attack slot in the chain, allowing you to do the follow up jab

    The dragon hunter one is fun because its a quality weapon and quality means you could use heafty rock pots + fan daggers.
    Fan daggers keep bosses from regenerating their posture during their endless combos and free aimed rock pots are great for PvP, it's basically a mortar strike, real fun.

    • @hobosorcerer
      @hobosorcerer 2 месяца назад +6

      Fan daggers would keep their posture low regardless of how much damage they're dealing, to be fair, but it's nice to optimize consumables on a quality setup!

      Fan daggers and hefty pots are both very meta atm

    • @Velumbra
      @Velumbra 2 месяца назад +3

      @@THE_MOONMAN The difference is the damage going from something the enemy can ignore to something they'll be forced to respect when used on a proper build.
      They go from a tool, nothing more than a utility, to a decent ranged damage option.

    • @THE_MOONMAN
      @THE_MOONMAN 2 месяца назад +3

      @Velumbra fan daggers never do good damage, they're for popping bubbles and for keeping poise from reseting, or stunning people in light armour. Their damage is totally irrelevant. And hefty rock pots scale with strength mainly. They're best on a str build.
      They literally have a D scaling in dex lol.

    • @Ronin11111111
      @Ronin11111111 2 месяца назад +1

      Yep, I re-rolled my character as a dragon hunter for the entire zone and it was quite a lot of fun. Though next time I fight Bayle I probably won't use the Dragonhunter, however I will always use it for the path up to him 'cause screw slogging through 4 whole ass dragon fights. Also it's better than the Serpent Hunter in the weapon art aspect 'cause it's still very useful even against non-dragons. Then again, that weapon has the aspect of not having any stat requirements which is super-useful for obvious reasons.

    • @urtoryu_dy_althraidn
      @urtoryu_dy_althraidn Месяц назад

      And for any other dragon in the game, this thing's damage on dragons is is downright ridiculous. Hell, I think it's even easier to kill Ghostflame Dragons with it than with a holy build.
      No complaints about it of course, you get it really late into the game after all, and using it to demolish stuff is wa too much fun. Specialized weapons have always been a cool idea, and while they have done it before with serrated weapons in Bloodborne or the Black Knight ones in souls, I think this one is the best by FAR.

    Rakshasas katana is mainly for pvp, the hyper armour is stupid busted.
    Weed cutter gives a bunch of extra poise, plus reducing the poise damage of invoming attacks by a 3rd.
    The extra damage means nothing when you win every trade. And it does so much damage that you still do more damage in a trade almost always.
    Its okay for pve as well, but than you need a lot of resistance to survive the incoming damage

    I feel like some of the most "basic" and least flashy AoWs are the ones I end up using the most. Impaling Thrust, Storm Blade, Lion's Claw. Honestly, Lion's Claw has carried me through the game, an unbeatable hyper armor is just so good. I tried warming up to Savage Lion's Claw but it seems against most enemies its just worse than Lion's Claw because you won't land all the hits and pancake them, but you WILL burn more FP and Stamina. I also like testing on those omens in the Underground Roadside. Right next to a site of grace and there are several and they have 6k hp so can withstand a few hits.

    One interesting thing about Overhead Stance is you can roll out of the stance to dodge. This actually makes the Relana Camo sort of decent against some bosses because you can go into the stance while looking for an opening and dodge if needed. It isn’t *great*, but it is kind of fun.

Easily spammable, costs very little mp and stamina, the animation is fast meaning you can dodge efficiently and with enough poise you can ignore literally everything that's not 10 times your size

    I did a Storm Blade build, the Divine Beast Helm (+3 STR & DEX) plus Millicent's Prosthesis (+5 DEX) make it possible to have 59 VIG and 55/55 STR/DEX at level 125
    At 55/55 the Great Katana gets 700 AR 1h, veeeeeeery slightly losing to Keen at 14/80 (708 AR) - but you get 750 AR 2h, vastly overpowering Keen's 712 AR and beating Heavy's 2h 740 AR at 80/18.
    Still very expensive points wise, only worth it because of dual scaling on Storm Blade (the bullet will deal lots more damage on Quality). Still pretty versatile lol

    • @thesquishogods8015
      @thesquishogods8015 3 дня назад

      Something isn’t right here. The bullet AoW will do more damage on keen not quality for same level investment especially since this gets the “strong” scaling of keen.
      Keen has a 2.8 coefficient for dex and a 1.3 coefficient for strength while quality has a 1.9 coefficient for strength and Dex.
      Simple math…
      2.8+1.3= 4.1 for keen
      1.9+1.9=3.8 for heavy
      Effectively even at a 55/55 investment the keen build will still do more damage.
      Adding on that you will still get a higher 1 handed AR on a dedicated keen build, the on hit from the AoW will still do more damage on keen.
      Summery: Quality will never outscale keen for bullet ashes but it may outscale heavy

    Great Katanas should've been allowed Phantom Slash, imo. I know that's a poleblade skill, but GKs could've easily been adapted. As it goes in my imagination:
    Imagine the wielder holding the GK behind them in a two-handed grip at waist height (a classic samurai film pose), then stomping and lunging forward with the weapon in an upward slash. The follow-up sees the wielder, with the blade now overhead, bring the GK down with great force. Both attacks are, of course, mimicked by the titular phantom.
    That's the idea in my head, and I would love to make it a reality. It'll take a while to get there, though 😅

    Before I watch this video, I'm hoping that he covers how peculiarly amazing the Great Katana is on an Occult infusion, I feel like I'm part of some kind of exclusive subcommunity of like, 3 people who knows how bonkers it is when optimized with stuff like the Mushroom Crown and Exultation Talismans. All videos I watch of it people either recommend Heavy and two-handing it or Keen because it's by default a Dexterity weapon and using Greases and I mean, like... what? If you want to put a buff on it, Poisonous Mist gives ridiculous amounts of Poison buildup on an Occult weapon with high Arcane, while also being just a generally useful move for trading and such. You could also use Seppuku if you wished and Bleed people in two swings with it.
    Other notable things to include alongside this are: The Poisoned Hand which gives a 5% attack buff (even when in the offhand while you are two-handing the Great Katana) when Poisoning or Rot occurs, and Sacred Bloody Flesh which is a consumable dropped by Bloodfiends which gives +10 Arcane and a small attack boost that becomes a big attack boost, larger than Exalted Flesh, when Blood Loss occurs. I'm reaching 1.5k Attack Power in the menu when all buffs are active, and that's just with the Exultation Talismans, Mushroom Crown, Poisoned Hand, and Sacred Bloody Flesh, with nothing else. You can stick with 70 Arcane and reach 80 using the consumable, then invest those 10 points into some other needed stats. At Level 139, you are basically playing at level 149 while still being able to match with 125 and 150 players.
    I will edit this comment after watching the video.
    EDIT: I see that it was mostly relegated to a small portion of the already short section referring to all infusions in a general sense and wasn't given any notes beyond "it's good on Occult because it has innate Bleed" and I mean, yes that is true, but most often Occult weapons tend to have at least somewhat notably lower physical attack than the other physical infusions for nearly all weapons in the game and only really gets better at really high levels of stat investment where it becomes a kind of scuffed Quality weapon. But the Great Katana has Attack extremely comparable to Keen while still having nearly double the amount of Bleed, and high Arcane means you can just run a Dragon Communion Seal with a handful a points put into Faith for things like Bloodboon, Fire Serpent, Pest Threads, Bestial Sling, Catch Flame, etc, and have access to amazing ranged attacks just because you are a Arcane build. Starting as a Prophet is a good idea for optimization, I'm reach 56 Vigor at Level 139 with minimum Mind and Faith investment, 70 Arcane, the nimimum stats needed to use the Great Katana, and the rest is put into Endurance at 23.

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 месяца назад

      I happened to see this comment before you edited it (pointing it out to make sure you know I know the context). The Great Katana performs well on Occult infusion, but it does not actually scale better than Occult counterparts of other weapons/weapon classes also with base bleed. Weapons with base bleed tend to perform best in terms of stats on Occult infusion to begin with.
      But if you're comparing this weapon to other base bleed weapons for certain weapon arts or what not, the Great Katana does stand but not because of its Occult scaling. The reason is that it is a great weapon class with base bleed and high base attack in a niche that formerly has one competing option (Flamberge). You will see me make use of this in my next build video using the Great Katana.

    At 8:38 you mention that the Blood infusion overrides the base Bleed of the Great Katana, but doesn’t the bleed proc do more damage if you Bleed infuse an innate-bleed weapon? I think that’s the key piece of context missing there. Bleed infusion is still advantageous if the proc does more damage

    Personally I do not agree with your assessment regarding the Quality infusion on the Great Katana.
    It's an expensive infusion to optimise for, but at lvl 150 you will get a noticeable amount of additional effective damage than with a Keen infusion, if you use it with 2 hands. I managed to push my stats to 54 STR and 62 DEX, which nets me an AR of 763 when 2-handing.
    Also, Double Slash. If you're not looking for any hyper armor in your ash of war, but instead hard damage and good status buildup, use Double Slash rather than Overhead Stance.

    • @lukaogadze5071
      @lukaogadze5071 2 месяца назад

      with that stat spread + 60 vigor you will end up at 143 lvl with vagabond do you play with 18 endurance?

    • @Chrightt
      @Chrightt  2 месяца назад +3

      54 Str 62 Dex is a lot more stat points than I would put into any 150 build. I'm showing 58 str/dex one-handed to show the AR at softcap to give a good comparison of quality across different weapons. If you have 54 str 62 dex you most definitely do not have enough stat points for other stats like vigor or endurance or even mind. These stats definitely provide a larger benefit than 1% AR gain for like 5 stat points. If that's the case, you might as well run Heavy infusion at 98 strength, 18 dex (same amount of stat investment for 771 AR which is higher than quality infusion).

    Been running the regular Odachi Occult with blood tax on it for my dex/arcane build (I know I am cringe but only do PVE). It can get pretty nasty as blood tax is all piecing damage that builds up bleed.

      It's literally a worse unsheathe, the light attack deals so little damage you might as well do running attacks which have better range and damage while costing no FP and the heavy doesn't even true combo so you'll end up doing less damage than unsheathe R2 in more hits.

      @anitaremenarova6662 Repeating Crossbow is actually usable with Both Bolt Talismans that increase damage it just sucks I have to Sacrifice 2 Talisman slots to make it somewhat viable, With Lightning Bolts (if most hit) it does about 700-800 damage free aiming it, I trained myself to use it it's a fun weapon but the damage is very avoidable just with a single roll or so its the way I catch people off guard with free aiming it because nobody expects bolts to do that much damage and just ignore it.
