Hi Mr and Mrs D. Thank you for reacting to a video on Australia. It certainly is a very lucky country. This video sells the country well but we definitely have our issues here. We have a housing crisis/shortage of affordable housing in all states. The Federal and State Governments have been slow to act on analysing the housing market and ensuring enough homes are being built with the right supporting infrastructure.
Also, race relations with Indigenous Australians, is not progressing well, and is being politicised to the determent of our most dependant.

Too bad, the pretend indigenous got a vote for constitutional change. Only the big city yuppies voted for it. Rural areas (many with large indigenous populations) voted heavily against it. Now sit back and form a no cost group representing indigenous people that can lobby to the government like they asked for. I personally know and respect a number of indigenous people that have lived in the area I now live all their lives and they voted against the constitutional change.

In Australia. our immigration policies may vary from time to time to overcome worker shortages in certain areas, but will still have a sizeable intake outside of those varied requirements and have accept many thousands of refugees. That's all part of being a good 'international' citizen.

G'day Guys! Since some of the figures are a bit out of date...GDP per capita is currently $60,443 USD which is $94,745 AUD... The author didn't expand on the different climatic conditions as they affect agriculture...for example because Tasmania is cool/temperate while North Queensland & NT are tropical some produce can be supplied all year round fresh like strawberries which we have available 365 days a year! Cheers!

Except the strawberries taste like sh*t most of the time because they're artificially ripened for freshness (at least, the ones at supermarkets). Doesn't taste close to a strawberry ripened in the sun.

They don’t mention our superannuation which is a big factor to our wealth. Our super is like your 401 retirement plans except for the fact that it is always part of our salary package, as our employers have to pay in minimum 9% (I think) into our super funds which invest in not only Australian businesses but also international companies. The Aus government is also always increasing the percentage amount of our salaries that our employers have to pay into our super - this is so when we retire the majority of the country won’t need to pull on a national pension because as soon as we get our first jobs at 15 or whatever, we’ve already been paying into our retirement plans so we’ve often got at least a million in there for retirement and that amount will only grow as superannuation funds were only introduced in the 90’s. We also can’t touch that money until we retire at 65, though you can get emergency access once a year if necessary, but you really have to justify it. There’s also tax incentives to put extra into your account by yourself. It also means that we all do have a retirement safety net, unlike other countries, especially from what I can tell in the US ppl find it difficult to set up a 401 let alone put money into it consistently, and ppl don’t seem to have a lot of hope about retiring

As I've pointed out on a LOT of Twitter (X) posts ... compared to the US, Australia has far more 'safety nets' for those in need and a host of other benefits for our population like .. Universal Healthcare, Employer/Govt contribution Superannuation, PAID annual vacation leave (usually 4 weeks+ year), PAID sick leave (usually 2 weeks/yr), PAID maternity leave and a host of other services.
Now, while our American friends scream about our range of public services being tantamount to 'Socialism' ... I love to point out that Australia has MORE millionaires per capita the the US. Go figure!!

Since the year 2000, the average wage has doubled, but the houses have gone up 4 to 6 times the amount. A single average wage was achievable to buy a house, now a double income household is a stretch.

Only 6% of Australia is arable which is why there are only a couple of Smaller States and several huge States and Territories. The majority of our 25+ Million people are concentrated in the Capital cities in each State and Territory with lesser populated regional cities dotted throughout the States and Territories. We are also a very culturally diverse country with over 200 languages spoken. Most Americans would struggle to believe we are a Capitalist country as we have a lot of our taxes providing things for its citizens that are considered “socialism” in the States (subsidised medical treatment which is free if you are on a pension, cheap pharmaceuticals, subsidised child care, paid maternity leave, aged pensions etc etc). We still have a choice to have private health insurance and choice of hospital (public or private) but as my husband and a friend found out, they were both fitted with a stent in their hearts by the same heart specialist but one operated on in the public system (no $ cost) and the other in the private system (note that the majority of the private hospital costs were subsidised by the Government because we all pay our taxes and are entitled to that % of cover whether it’s private or public so the Private insurer only had to pay for the balance). Australia also hasn’t had a Recession since the early 1990’s so we are not perfect but we must be doing something right. ❤

I am an expat who grew up in Chicago and the southwest of America. I immigrated to Australia at the age of 23yo. I am now 65yo and have traveled back to America several times to visit family.
Each time I returned to America it increasingly looked poorer. Unbelievably poorer than my childhood and each return visit back, more homelessness, more begging, more trailer parks... Any homeless here are usually in the CBD and drug addicts. Rarely seen. No people accosting you. Maybe there's been a car jacking here, but I've never heard of it.
Don't get me wrong. I love America, the Constitution, the beautiful, majestic scenery, the National Parks, the wonderful people.
But, I am going to tell you the reasons I prefer Australia. I suppose the first thing that comes to mind, is the 'laconic' attitude of Australians. They have a no nonsense sense of humor. They are sarcastic, don't take themselves seriously, but will test newcomers. You have to learn to take a joke. Mateship s an important thing here. It's a hard thing to explain. Kinda like a camraraderie (brothers in arms). Its a real thing.
I have traveled a bit and seen some nice beaches, but Australia without doubt, has the best beaches in the world. You and your lady can be on a deserted beach every day if you venture outside the major cities. I live on the Sunshine Coast one hours drive north of Brisbane (google it). Best restaurants in the world, high end stores, and about 25 beaches. There are many similar places up the east coast of Australia. There's also Adelaide (South Australia) and Perth (West Australia). I've lived in both, and they are great places. Perth has unbelievable beaches.
Everyone is always focused on the beaches, but most of the entire east coast has rain forests within an hours drive of the beaches. Heaps of waterfalls and wildlife. I like to 4X4 (popular here). Plenty of challenges.
The standard of living here is high. Our minimum wage is about $16 an hour (USD). About $24 (USD) an hour. We are a big island continent with no borders. This is an advantage for Australia. We are multicultural, but like to import skilled workers. No one is poor.
I love my guns. In order to shoot a handgun and safely store it, I had to jump some hurdles. I target silhoutte .44 mag. I have to go to the gun range minimum 12 times a year and be a member of a silhoutte gun club. Long arms are easy if you are a rural property owner or have permission to shoot on rural land.
As much s I believe int he 2nd amendment, it is nice to live in a gun free environment.
The shools are better here, and the health care really good. No one goes broke from medical bills.
If you wish to immigrate, begin the process now. The Immigration Dep't in Australia is very slow.
