As my officer recruiter told me, the air force is not having the interview boards in 2020-2021 for officers.

I go to MEPS in a few days and scored a 96 on the General Score of the ASVAB. Is there a certain process I have to request?

Marshall, your Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test scores, physical exam, citizenship and moral standards determine your job/career qualifications. Until you have taken BOTH your ASVAB test and completed your physical exam. The Air Force does not know what jobs/careers you would qualify for.
Job Selection Process: When processing through the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), you will provide the Air Force Job Counselor with at least 5 jobs or more and an aptitude area (General, Mechanical, Electronics, or Administrative) that you qualified for, and are willing to train and serve in. You will receive one of the jobs, or an aptitude area that meets the needs of the United States Air Force that YOU selected. Remember, this is an opportunity for you to go through the job selection process, and Enlist into the United States Air Force, not shop for a specific job. You CANNOT wait for a specific job. Whether it is your #1 job choice or your #8 job choice you must accept the career. As long as you are fully qualified for a specific career, and if there is an opening in that career field, then you will get that career guaranteed to you in your contract. Remember you will receive one of the careers/aptitude area that you qualified for and that YOU requested.

Congratulations and welcome to the team! Here are some things to help you before and during Basic Military Training (BMT).
- Know your reporting statement (at the very minimum)
- Teamwork is essential
- Know your chain of command
- Know the Airmen’s Creed
- Know the Air Force Song
- Know Air Force ranks (both enlisted & officers)
- Know Air Force Core values
- Recommend being at or close to the BMT PT graduation level before you go to BMT (always check with your doctor before exercising). Everything else will come with time. If you do not know any of the above please contact your recruiter for this information. Good luck future Airman!

Why is this AFSC never available? Meaning zero openings, just a ton of maintenance AFSC’s. Would a Non Prior Service applicant with a high school diploma have the opportunity to grab a slot available at MEPS, or would he/she have to sign up open general and take their chances in BMT?
Neek, the process is the same for all Enlisted careers. Your Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test scores, physical exam, citizenship and moral standards determine your job/career qualifications. Until you have taken BOTH your ASVAB test and completed your physical exam. The Air Force does not know what jobs/careers you would qualify for.
For example: you could have a perfect Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score and find out during your physical exam at Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and you find out that you are red & green deficient during your eye exam or some other medical issue. So you do not qualify for any EOD, Special Warfare, flying careers, SERE, electrical or mechanical jobs, Security Forces, Fire Protection, etc. … OR … you could be in perfect physical shape & have no medical issues, but you have low ASVAB scores. So you do not qualify for certain jobs that require higher ASVAB scores.

@@USAirForceRecruiting Aha!!!! That last paragraph is exactly what I am talking about and exactly the part of the process I will be sharing with my students. You see, this video is very misleading. It makes it seem as if there is a need for such AFSC and if someone wanted to serve as a paralegal, and qualified based on their ASVAB performance and MEPS physical results (PULHESX = 111111P) they would have every opportunity to get the job. Based on your last paragraph, this is clearly not the case. While I agree that prospects should not pursue the USAF for a specific job, and rather more to serve and pursue a better quality of life with possibilities of growth, travel, education, etc., this video is not sending an accurate message. Recruiting Service should really stick to promoting the USAF lifestyle, opportunities and benefits and not jobs, especially jobs that have very few vacancies and are not in need of manning. While I am sure you will ignore my reply, understand that your audience is giving you feedback. I already saw someone comment that “their recruiter lied to them”. I am sure this video made that person feel they were lied to, and I bet that was not the case. Just my two cents.
Neek, thank you for your feedback. We highlight different careers to show potential applicants that the Air Force is made of many different career fields. Applicants will receive one of the careers/aptitude area that they qualified for and that THEY requested. With over 130 career fields applicants are already guaranteed the Air Force lifestyle no matter what career they choose.
I will give you an example... let’s say you went to apply for a job at… I don’t know…let’s say Best Buy and you told Best Buy that "I will only work with cell phones and nothing else."
Do you think Best Buy would hire you?
No, because Best Buy is hiring you to work for them in any area of their store they need you in whether it's computers, TVs, audio, etc.
With the Air Force YOU choose which area and YOU choose which jobs based off of your ASVAB test scores, physical exam, and citizenship qualifications.

@@USAirForceRecruiting I hear you Ray, trust me, I do, but that’s not how the public perceives this type of approach. A civilian that has never served a day in their life, will see this video and say “hey, I want to be a paralegal in the Air Force”. That’s the vibe the SrA is putting out. Needless to say, I understand everything you are saying. The video is a terrible example, misleading and should be removed.
I would like to share my experience. I decided to join the Air Force. Went through the whole process and read many statements like yours. ‘It is hard to get that AFSC’ etc. I joined considering various career fields, didn’t even list Paralegal as an option (got discouraged) Next you know I was offered to join with a paralegal job. If you really want to start a career and serve, Go for it! You might make your way up to the job you want while in the Air Force or you might be lucky to get it while in DEP. Do your research but keep in mind everybody’s experience is different. Can’t wait to start my military journey.
Can you go to law school while being a paralegal in the airforce? Will the airforce help pay your way through law school?
Service members interested in joining the Air Force Staff Judge Advocate Corps (AFSJAC) may be eligible for the Air Force to cover the cost of law school using Funded Legal Education Program. Service members continue to serve on active duty and the Air Force covers the cost of tuition, fees, and a book allowance. This program is based on funding availability and limited to 25 officers per fiscal year.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a citizen of the United States, serving on extended active duty, in the rank of O-3 or below for at least 2 years but not more than six years, and graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. You must also obtain a conditional release though the Air Force Personnel Center from your career field should you be selected for Funded Service Member reading a bookLegal Education Program.
Enlisted service members must also meet the requirements of the enlisted to Officer Training School commissioning program in AFMAN-36-2032 and have six months retainability pats the projected graduation date.

Antonio, here are the general requirements to apply to be an Air Force pilot:
You must be a US citizen
ANY 4 year bachelor degree with at least a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Application must be submitted to the board prior to 32 years of age. Applicant must have completed the OTS application, be selected and they have completed 9.5 weeks of Officer Training School (OTS) by age 33.

Nefertiti, we do not have that information. Just about all base have JAG so they probably have paralegal.

My recruiter told me I couldn’t go in as an enlist to become a paralegal because I had to go in with a job then switch over. But I did my research and also talked with my uncle who was a general in the Army and he told me that wasn’t true and now I don’t know what to do. Please help

Hello. I am WOON from south korea. I have been in korea marine corps as special recon unit(enlisted) and now I am working in korea army as a military police ( sergeant). Now, I am pretty interested in becoming U.S airmen as a paralegal. I am not sure but I have heard people who joined military in the other country can't be U.S airmen , is it true?
2. If I got master degree of LAW in U.S. Is there any benefit when I become Airmen as a paralegal?
MPIW, Thank you for your interest in the Air Force. Unfortunately, applicants that have served in a foreign military cannot join the Air Force. You may contact the other branches (Army, Navy, Marines or Coast Guard) as their requirements may be different.

I do not know when that changed but it is a career you can list upon initial entry. In addition to the normal job qualifications you need to be interviewed the Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS) legal office Law Office Superintendent (LOS) or another LOS designated by the Career Field Manager (CFM) or Senior Paralegal Manager (SPM).
