Volunteer for overseas every chance you get! All the rank is overseas. All the pride is overseas. All the bonus pay is overseas. And all the off-duty delights are overseas as well. Note: The US military's longest sustained overseas deployment was Gen. Douglas McCarthur. 17 consecutive years without returning home once. Nobody else has even came close.
One bit of advice for when you report to a new duty station. Keep your mouth shut. Watch, learn and listen. Now I don't mean not to talk to anyone about anything but get a vibe as to what is going on. Don't come off as an expert about anything. You will get called out for it. You get a chance to find out who the power lies behind, who just runs off at the mouth. Who will get you in trouble and who you can rely on in a pinch. No base is as good as the one you are going to, or the one you just left. Different environments, different countries, different cultures. Get to know and understand all of that. Once you feel confident about your surroundings, open up a bit. I would do that at every base I went to regardless of my rank. Just sit back and get a feel for things.
Love your videos really helped me in preparing for MEPS and I’m currently in DEP still waiting for my assigned job so I don’t know my leave date yet but hopefully before the year is up. I’m really excited for BMT but super nervous! Keep posting girl!! Love your videos 💖💖💖

Mikayla! How nice to see you again and you're looking good! I can already see this upload is helpful. ..."It's not Full Metal Jacket" I thought that was good and made me laugh! Interesting info again. Thank you for the previous vote page. Anything military from you will be of interest. (I like your thumbnail!)
My last base was Griffiss. I didn't have to live off base but because I was an E-r4 I could opt for it. The CQ said I got a private dorm room because of my job and rank. That room was REALLY private it was 2 feet wider and 4 feet longer than the bed
Fabulous! I haven't thought about 341s in YEARS, heh! We used to have to have two of them, already filled out, folded in thirds and in our left shirt pocket folded under the pocket flap so Smokey the Bear could SNATCH one out 😳 Anyway, good job, very reassuring talk to somebody who maybe is waiting to ship to basic and is wondering about...after ☺️👍
I just got booked for a Public Affairs job and leave 11/30 for BMT. Right now I’m looking into bases I want on my dream list. I was thinking of placing Lakenheath as my #2 or #3 but I really don’t want to live in the dorms for very long (I’m going in as an E-3) as I want to bring my 2 pet cats. Do you think I would be able to get an early release from the dorms at Lakenheath?
Hi there. Unless you are married or have children, you will normally be in the dorms until you become an E4 or if there is no dorms available. I was in the dorms for a year and then was asked to move off base due to the dorms being at capacity. Every case is different, but I would definitely still list it on your dream sheet because it is an awesome assignment.
You have to go on a website called move.mil and schedule your pickup and delivery. Very easy. And you can even designate a person to do it for you like a friend or family member if you didn’t want to or couldn’t be there
In my day, you got orders, but you could switch with someone. If they agreed to it. No online options. Just trading your pals in tech school. I was at my hanger, the next morning. There was no exploration for me. On the job, the next day. Before I even got clothing issue, for arctic environment. Glad it is better now.
Thanks for sharing this. I have a question, I’m absolutely terrified I get nervous or embarrassed when I speak out loud because I don’t like my voice. My school is helping me find and AirForce recruiter. Yes, me being scared of BMT is what’s holding me back. May you please help me ? I really want to go after I graduate high school June of 2022. Id really appreciate you helping me and getting me more motivated because it’s half and half now and I feel like I will not go because of my fear of BMT. Never been in ROTC & I keep having this fear that drills, and formations will be hard. I really want to join so anything helps. I hope you have a nice one!
I wouldn’t even worry too much. Yeah, BMT can be scary but that’s the whole point of it. It’s meant to break your civilian life out of you and turn you into an Airman. And don’t feel like you have to go right away after high school. You can always take a year off or two to have some time for yourself and if you feel like you’re ready then you can go. I could have gone after high school but I wanted to go to college first to see where my path goes but now since I’m graduating this year I’m definitely gonna go to the Air Force because I feel like I’m more mature enough to be prepare for BMT and it’s always something I wanted to do. Trust me when I say that I used to be like you.
I love your videos. They have been so helpful to me. How long are you usually at a base before you are moved to another location and how does that work? Do you decide when to go to a new base or does leadership handle that? Also one other question regarding your base. Can you choose to go to the more secret locations like Area 51 or do you have to be I for some time before sent to a location that sensitive?
General/Admin types are funny... They're barely in the Air Force.... They wear a uniform, but work 8am to 5pm Monday thru Friday... "OPERATIONAL" Air Force, getting your hands dirty... We're open - 24-7, many times, nights, 12 hour shifts, more..... rain, snow, wind.... heat humidity. We're the 'dirty' guys in the chow hall line... I dont think my shop ever closed in 25 years, the lights were always on, the door was never locked. Yes.. we worked Christmas Day. ( and night)
Your FIRST BASE.... hun, you're way ahead of yourself.... You base assignments can very well be dependent on what your job is... Her job is a general job, its on most every base in the Air Force.... Many people will have a more specialized job. Which will greatly limit your "BASE" options. Example, if you specialize on B-52's for some reason, you have TWO base options. Barksdale AFB LA, or Minot AFB ND.. PERIOD... If you are a specialist on C-5M Dover AFB DE.... Some TDY (temporary duty assignments) C-130's are at a handful of bases... F-22 is at ONE BASE... SO.. when you choose your job, you are also really limiting where you might end up... IF you are a cook, or a cop, or other Admin/Supply/General help.. you might go to any base in the World... Many times, you will get a Stateside assignment first, to try you out some. Its expensive to ship you overseas right off the bat.

After leaving tech school, did you have an opportunity to go back home ? If so how long did you have before you had to go to your station?
What’s the process of getting your stuff ship from home to your first duty base?

How does it work for people that have dependents ? After tech school, do they go back home and get their families before moving to their new bases ?
I was wondering the same thing.
I love your videos what is your job in the Air Force? if you don't mind me asking
PS: I'm a retired SMSgt, I went through basic in 1980 and retired in 2005, I think I mentioned that on one of your excellent videos before 😌
Good video .. simple and to the point
Do you have to cut your hair a certain length?
I asked this in another video but this one was more new!
No you don’t have to cut your hair. It just has to be in a bun or a ponytail or braid
@@MikaylaRoseDaly Wouldn't you say, though, it is advisable to keep your hair cut a certain length in order to make it more manageable?

You can start classes after getting to your first base and getting approval from your leadership.

Sorry if you’ve answered this already! What is your job or career field?
Did you reenlists
If your duty station is MCB Camp Pendleton or MCB Camp Lejeune, run and hide. They are pits. Perhaps the are better now.
