I actually prefer the external look of the Amarok over most of the Ranger trim levels, but maybe the Sport, Wildtrak and Platinum spec's ... but I'll admit I'm biased! Haha! For me it would be the Life spec out of the two base model Amaroks, but that petrol engine would be a nice little edition to the Life spec, if they offered one in the future! Nice touch at adding 'bakkie' to your clip title for our South African mates!
Excellent video and very informative. I was looking at the Life initially but ended up getting the Style in the end. I am very happy with the vehicle and I think it is the best choice in the current market.
Thanks again Matt and nice VIC terrain - I drove a GTI Golf for several months and really enjoyed ‘the driver’s’ car experience compared to other makes - the Amarok would be similar except the deal-breaker for me like the Golf was the left of steering wheel turn indicator which annoyed me - you really need at least three litres of engine capacity to haul these large vehicles around so the high fuel consumption is no surprise here and a six-speed auto is all you need - the no knob infotainment system (also used in the Ford Ranger) is not good because we know how the police deal with mobile phone users and the fact you have to look away for several moments to navigate heater options is going to cause accidents - I like my second Hilux very much with conventional handbrake and sensible control knobs, good pulling power and proven reliability.
The six speed auto, if it has the same ratios as my 2014 Ranger version, has a big gap between second and third gear which isn’t ideal when heavy towing in hilly conditions. Hopefully the firmware has been improved so that it shifts more reliably up and down to suit conditions and speeds. Certainly the current ten speed box is in a different league to the older six speed.
Hi Matt! Im very interested in your comment on reducing the number of gears that you can engage on the Life. I've just signed off on a purchase and awaiting delivery. That's the 1 thing that worries me about this purchase but I upgraded from a Core purchase as I was not impressed with rear drums on the core. Can you help direct me with making the changes in gear number???
I’d still rather a dual cab Cruiser, no matter how many creature comforts I’d be missing out on.. Though the Amaroc looks better then the Ranger.. Keep up the great reviews. 👍🍻
The mahindra can actually carry more. You need it for all the spare parts you going to need. It's so good my friend has 4 but only 1 ever running at any point in time. 1 Amarok = better than 4 Mahindras I say
