I’m sorta new to the channel, so would you mind explaining what you mean when you say there’s a fine line between play and aggression with elephants? Do you mean they themselves can cross over into aggression if they get too worked up being silly? Or that other ellies don’t always know whether the other is being aggressive or just wanting to play?
Hi! Welcome! :) It's a little bit of both. The elephants that end up here aren't usually the best socialized and haven't usually had the best lives. Captivity generally means a lifetime of trauma. Most of our elephants were alone for decades before they arrived, and those who were with others, were usually only with one other elephant, which means their socialization skills aren't the best. Their play can easily turn into aggression when they get too excited (like a puppy that gets over-excited and bites their human), or they get overly excited and the others think they are being aggressive when they are just playing.

I love these peaceful herbivores. We can learn so much from them.
Que pasa 🌳🐘❤
OMG! Too funny :))
It's interesting how they put their heads down at times of silliness, as when they plunge into a big pile of dirt head first.
