Pir and Toothy will be 300% better after War of the Spark hits ;) be nice to jam some new uncommon planeswalkers and proliferate in a budget pir/toothy deck
Hunter's Prowess would go great in this deck, too. (4)(G) Sorcery. Until end of turn, target creature gets +3/+3 and gains trample and "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, draw that many cards." It's like 25 cents. This card could make Toothy fecking huge.
What, no Prime Speaker Zegana in the reasonable upgrades? Get a creature twice as powerful as your toothy which draws you that many cards tripling your toothy's power. Definitely needs to be in the list.
No, Zegana would be 2 bigger than Toothy (1 for base power, 1 for Pir adding 1 counter), not twice as big. You would still more-than-triple Toothy by drawing cards equal to Toothy + 2, then placing twice that many counters on Toothy, but Zegana places her counters simultaneously, not as individual triggers. Pir doubles Toothy’s production specifically because Toothy places each counter as an individual trigger per card drawn
Awesome video! My pir and toothy commander deck is my favorite deck I own, I built it after I opened them at prerelease for battlebond and I’ve been upgrading them ever since. For anyone looking at this, the deck he presented here is an amazing base for a pir and toothy deck. Many of the cards he used here I’m running in mine despite it being worth a decent amount by now. Glad to see my favorites get some love :)
I think Chasm Stalker would make a good insurance policy against wipes, same first effect as toothy, but when it dies it creates that many 1/1 squids instead of drawing.
Repeating my answer to another comment of the same kind. Triggers are only put into the stack when a player receives priority. No player has priority while a spell is resolving and they won't gain until the spells fully resolves. When you cast Essence Flux and the like on Toothy, it will be exiled and the game will see that it has triggers to go on the stack, but they won't go in the stack just yet because the spell didn't fully resolve. Then Toothy comes back, the spell fully resolves, and now the triggers go in the stack. This way when you draw the cards, Toothy is already on the battlefield and will see you drawing the cards, thus getting the counters from each card drawn. Hope this clarifies your doubts mate
Pir and Toothy is definitely a great value deck. Our local magic club keeps one that always seems to perform well. That’s not surprising though, with green being great ramp and blue being great card draw. If you’re looking for a good deck/starting, this definitely has some good interactions
I like it, though I would have taken a few choice graft creatures like plaxcaster frog and the llanowar graft land and thrown an in, I believe pir will trigger on them etb with graft and give em an extra counter, as well as when they transfer counters with graft, so toothy can get a lot of mileage out of an as well.
Try adding Quasiduplicate $0.64. Due to the legendary rule, Toothy will be moved to the command zone, and you will draw all those cards, doubling the counters in your token Toothy. Then jump start it, and double the counters again! It won't cause the player to lose to commander damage, but I've won games because of that synergy.
Holy what an awesome deck! I have placed my order with some upgrades. pls don´t forget "Ordeal of Thassa" for more counters and carddraw, also "Ordeal of Nylea" for ramping! love your content! and hopefully we will see an 100$ upgrade :P
Some of these cards are going to make my Pir and Toothy deck so much better. I have been looking for a way to modify my deck some and these are good choices.
Currently running Arixmethes with no real set strategy. Think I might alternate with these guys, the additional slumber counter from Pir would be annoying but not too bad.
this is very interesting. I'm looking forward to the break the bank version of this. I just bought The Lucust god which is also a windfall deck, so I really like this one. Prime speaker Sagana does make toothy 3 times as huge.
Okay you have to be reading my mind first I was looking for a good build for xantcha then I saw jumbo commanders pir and toothy build and was like dang i need a budget version and welp here i am again!
Mmmmm that deepglow skate and doubling season though....also I get into way to many games where someone doesn’t take damage for some reason(fog or worship or whatever). I would include laboratory maniac to pump toothy to the roof and mill out
Well the decks are made using tcgplayer optimization so the decks are made using heavily played cards which are cheaper than the cards original average price.
Pretty much always happens, all the damaged/played cards sell leaving only the normal ones, then lots of people buy the decks so card prices go up, still most of the decks can be built for sub $50 which is still incredibly budget
I've been decked out from Toothy having too many counters before. I had him up to 20 and someone running another simic deck went and added like 30 more, naturalized my greaves, then blinked him. That was a fun way to lose, but you know... still lost.
I play a similar Pir & Toothy deck, like this one it is more a "Toothy deck," focusing on him and not as much on Pir. I think your extra card draw is a bit overkill with too many slots dedicated to it and too many big draws. Flickering Toothy is nearly all you need. Draw 7, Toothy gets 14 more counters, and then they kill him or bounce him and you draw 14 plus what he had before? It doesn't need that much to get out of control, and the more you have the more likely you are to deck yourself if Toothy leaves the field with too many counters. And since built on a budget, you are not playing Lab Man, you especially want to watch that. I think Shadow Rift, Touch of Invisibility, and maybe Traveler's Cloak are fine budget plays to draw a single card and make Toothy unblockable . And it is "flickering" not "blinking" named after the white Urza's Destiny card "Flicker" and further solidified with the first blue one, "Ghostly Flicker," although I've read that within Magic R&D hey use the terms "flicker" and "insta-flicker" to differentiate between the two effects, "insta-flicker" being the one that returns the creature to play immediately. I haven't spent much money on my P&T deck, but I had most of the cards when I opened them at my local Battlebond release event because my deck used to be a Kruphix deck, and before that a Prime Speaker Zegana deck designed to flicker Zegana and draw most of my deck and sit back and counter anything that tries to stop me from winning. To facilitate this it required I play a bunch of "Maro creatures" which most are blue and/or green. Pir and Toothy is so much better and removes the need for the Maros (except Psychosis Crawler, Thishana, and Empyrial Plate or "Pir's Armor"). I play a bunch of ETB effect creatures which essentially turns the "flicker " spells into other kinds of cards depending on what ETB creatures I have in pay. Not sure how "budget" they are, but I play six "no-max hand-size" cards cause I don't want to discard thereby keeping my options open when controling the board after big draws. Also not "budget" and increasingly not so because of certain You Tubers hyping them, but "flash enablers" like Vedalken Orrery, Leyline of Anticipation, and Alchemist's Refuge (and likely the new Emergence Zone) are great, cause if Toothy dies you can recast him from the command zone before his leave the battlefield trigger resolves. Gross and a surprise to some players. "Oh, yeah. That's a thing." Anyway, great deck tech!
I really enjoy the content that you put out and I don't want to come across rude when I say this, but I have to ask. How practical are these decks? Magic for the most part has the "more you pay the more interactions and things you can do" sorta thing(or at least it seems like that). Are these decks really only good if your whole groups is playing ultra budgets like these? or can these things hold their own against something in the maybe 100-200 range. I'm only asking because I've always been a budget player until recently when I finally decided to start investing into a deck and make it as strong as I could. I know from experience that as a budget player it was awful. I always lost to decks who spent more money in them and I never had fun. If you see this I'd love a reply. If not I still love your content and seeing how you brew up these things for 25 bucks lol. Edit: Spelled a word wrong.
The Commander's Quarters one thing people don’t realize is that ramping into an early wheel is severely disruptive to your opponents. They are busy sculpting a hand they decided to keep and you just #nope it all away. Better than a counterspell nine times out of ten.

Toothy draw trigger goes on the stack when he leaves the battlefield. But before the draw trigger can resolve, the blink spell has to finish resolving bc you can't resolve two spells at once. The spell resolves and Toothy comes back, then the draw trigger resolves.
