I just hate this latest series SO MUCH and can't accept it as canon. I don't want anything good to be part of it such as River Song or Moffat. Keep them away from this abominable, vile new show.
I am also quite disappointed by Ruby's mom reveal. I think he was wanting to close Ruby's story enough so that she could leave the role as permanent companion, however, since Millie Gibson was removed as series regular after season 1. She's being kept as a recurring character for season 2, true, but likely as a member of U.N.I.T.
I think the perfect time to have introduced her would have been during David Tennants specials since she did recognise the 10th Doctor when they met and as far as we know she never met him again so it would explain some stuff.
As a massive River Song fan I think it actually makes no sense to bring her back when her entire story came full circle. It just takes away all impact of it. She stated that those r the only faces she has seen of the doctor. Only time would’ve been if 14 met her.

You said what I already said a lot! Those 24 years in Derillium, and the TARDIS Child, who can steal it any time she wanted, AND she just found out the Doctor was granted a new set of regenerations? Anything could happen!

But the current mess is doomed anyway so I’m happy that Alex doesn’t become entangled in it and we can always hear River on Big Finish audio .. Still sad though..😪
Totally agree with you Ellie, Alex Kingston IS River Song. No other actress can play that character. I've met Alex and she was such a doll. I'm not ready for a stand-in River.
you pointing out every grey area that we can insert stories into river's timeline reminds me of the many many fanfics iv'e read about this same thing.... time to reread the gems of fan content we have here
I still say it was a terrible lost opportunity that River wasn't revealed as Ruby's mother. My theory was that after River and the Doctor parted ways following their 24 years on Darillium, River discovered she was pregnant. Because of the stories that Darillium was likely her last time with the Doctor, she may have felt she would die soon, so she placed Ruby at the church, trusting that the Tardis would bring the Doctor to their daughter when she needed him. But there could have been more. The Doctor knew his granddaughter Susan but didn't know who her mother or father was because Time Lords do things out of order. Ruby could have turned out to be Susan's mother. Carole Ann Ford could have appeared in the Steven Moffat-written Christmas special to reveal it. In my opinion, that would have been way more fun than her mother being a scared 15-year-old. I just really wanted Ruby to tell the Sundays that the Doctor was her father, with the Doctor saying by way of explanation that he used to be a white-haired Scotsman.
I've had an idea of how she could return. Obviously, the Timelords are gone. But they've come back from death before. I'm thinking some loyal Timelords who want the Galiffrey empire back decide to use a machine similar to the Master's machine in "The End Of Time" that he used to turn all humans into the Master. But instead of changing DNA, it seeks out all sources of Timelord DNA and revives all Timelords in the universe across time and space, and it replenishes their regeneration count. This could be an excuse to bring back some Classic Who Timelords, but, more importantly, since River has Timelord DNA (due to being concived in the Time Vortex), she would also be revived on the library planet.
THANKS for this, @WhoCulture @ELittlechild!!!!! I'm sorry for your (temporary) loss!!!! Love is a many splendid thing.... :) #DoctorWho #RiverSong #AlexKingston
Well on her last episode, she only knew about doctors 1-12 + the war doctor. She could have met the 14th doctor. I guess a way to bring her back is if the doctor doesn't tell river that he/she is the doctor.
Her return makes no sense! We saw River "die" in silence in the library and we saw River say goodbye to peter capaldi so why bring her back? Leave some stories closed
It would kind of make sense actually as river doesn't have any concurrent meet up with the doctor so it could be added that it happened before silence in the library.
I would love a River Song spin off with either Clara as a regular or for a couple of appearances. I don't think it was explained how River projected herself into Clara's mind. If they also confirmed that Clara is one of River's wives that would be amazing and if not give River a different girlfriend/wife.
Joining in the petition here in the comments to say Bring Back Alex as River Song! 😍 Want her to be in a multi-Doctor story! I have a wonderful photo of me next to her at a convention where she looks (and was) absolutely lovely, & I have the world’s biggest, goofiest grin! Love Alex! Love River! 💜💜➕🌈🟦
I had one, too, but it’s on an old phone with a broken screen. The original is around SOMEWHERE but I’ve no idea where. And yes, she was lovely. She took one look at me in my curly blonde wig & denim suit & said, “It’s me!” In the most pleased & awed voice. One of the best days of my life, met Matt (MY Doctor) & Freema, too.
Coming late to the party on this, but what would be an interesting River Song spin-off series would be one where… …she’s an archæologist, solving Mysteries by digging things up, rather than sci-fi. Like, yerkno, Bonekickers but done properly
We won't give up hope, Ellie. The question was in relation to the 15th Doctor. IF RTD was telling the truth this time, there's still hope for the future. You gave some very valid ways in which River could return. River / Alex Kingston must return. Listen to your audience, RTD!
I love River, but I'm even more happy that Moffet is going to continue to write for the show. A story with both Moffet and RTD working together is greater than the sum of its parts.
River's story has been completed for a good while. As always, if the writers can come up with a good story to bring her back for, I would have no objections. But nothing about her story's state requires her to come back.
Although, I had a thought. A young River, between the little girl and Mells, introduced in the main show, but the Doctor refusing to take her on as a companion after realizing who she is. Followed by a spin-off show where she somehow picks up post-library River as a mentor. Which could get paradoxical enough to get the Doctor to show up again in a season finale?
You know, I'd actually love for the 14th Doctor to go back to the library and break River out, or temporarily upload himself to visit her or something. It could be part or all of a spin off series, or even just a single feature length episode... It's only just occurred to me, so I haven't put much thought into the details, but figured it might be interesting to think about.
This is slightly unrelated but I will never forget when Alex Kingston, David Tennant, and Matt smith came to New York comic con and there was a Doctor who Q&A, And most people who asked questions (the ones in there like mid 40s) would ask very nsfw questions about river song and the two doctor’s, Almost like trying to verify or canonize there fan fictions 😅😥
Since death (or being stuck in a library matrix) is never permanent, I am sure there is an OP villain out there who is quite willing to pour salt in The Doctor's wounds and rub it in vigorously by brining back River. Of course River would trick the villain and turn the tables on them. And don't say that they couldn't do it because it was done with other characters, Doctor Who reuses that trope at least once every third doctor and that is not counting The Master.
It's easy to bring River back from The Library. The Library has transporters. Why not use one to give River a new body? They could make up something about having to work around safeguards to prevent it but it's still doable.
River (Alex) Has always been and will always be the best character in Doctor Who... I would LOVE a River Song spin off. and there are a million and one story ideas floating through my head that would be perfect for it so I am sure Moffit or RTD could come up with half that number and make it work.
@@Legendary3DgamerWhat's wrong with them? What's wrong with YOU? River's story is over, it's come full circle, and that's good. It's good when stories get a proper ending, because the alternative is endless regurgitation eventually ending in a lame fizzling out. Think about how the Master's ending got ruined by Chibnail bringing the character back, do you really want the same fate to befall River?
What about a river song series that each season explains the events between appearances on Dr who. Like Series 1 from birth to living with Rory and Amy. Series 2 just after she regenerated from melody to River. And so on
“I trust that man to the end of the universe, and actually, we’ve been.” -Sounds like a perfect adventure for River to help The Doctor repair his foolishly spilling salt at the edge of the universe.
What if River Song projects herself into the Flesh, and that Flesh may end up becoming “River” through assimilation. That way it keeps River from having anymore regenerations
For me personally I don't want her back, I love her to death she's one of my favorites but to me the husbands of river song was such a perfect ending and I want it to stay that way. Now things like stories with younger doctors or self adventures, I'm down for that.
My theory - Reveal 1 - Mrs Flood’s first name is music related. Let’s say Symphony . Melody-Song-Symphony. This goes woth the water themed surname. Pond-River-Flood. Reveal 2 - We see a stuffed blue notebook on Mrs Flood’s shelf. Reveal 3 - Mrs Flood ends a monologue to camera with the word: “Spoilers.” Final reveal - Mrs Flood is an android. Turns out that River Song’s mind is able to control robots across time and space from the library. River Song has burst her physical banks and now plays on a wider scale, unrestrained by a physical body.
She CAN return with the NEXT DOCTOR. It's no big deal that she won't appear with this one. There is always THE NEXT ONE. He didn't say she would NEVER appear. Just not with this one. No big deal.
I find the "River not returning" trope to be hilarious considering how many podcasts Alex Kingston has been in this year portraying River Song, with 2 more episodes already scheduled to release next year.
The Husbands of River Song was the END of river and we knew that. It was the last point in both of their time streams that aligned where they remembered eachother
On a purely personal level I am not sure I want River Song to return. Not because she is not an awesome character, she is, not because Alex Kingston is not a great actor, she is, but because for me the Husbands of River Song was such a brilliant episode that had managed to pull off the difficult task of humour and pathos without any kitsch and gave the character such an amazing send off. Given we knew her ultimate tragic fate, she still got her happy ending and frankly it was spectacularly good and again in my view is the best Christmas special and is one of the really great episodes. Leaving the character there with such a happy ending and the actress having delivered a stonkingly good performance just seems like the perfect way for Alex Kingston to sign off from Who.
It would make more sense to have River meet with the new David-Doctor. She's supposed to know his face, but not that young, and we never got more of them together... So we should get that.
Thoughts and prayers with Ellie today 😥

Ellie, how about writing some River Song fan fiction? We would all read it!
I'm still thinking Pond...River...Flood...
I can see the reasoning, but I’m not at all keen.
Yes, Anita Dobson is a good actress, but she isn’t Alex.
I bring condolences from the Claw Shansheeth of the 15th Funeral Fleet upon this terrible day.
Sorry Ellie... we're all here for you 😔😔💔
I've had an idea of how she could return.
This is why we like steven moffat
THANKS for this, @WhoCulture @ELittlechild!!!!!
I'm sorry for your (temporary) loss!!!! Love is a many splendid thing.... :)
#DoctorWho #RiverSong #AlexKingston
Can't believe they did that
Well on her last episode, she only knew about doctors 1-12 + the war doctor. She could have met the 14th doctor. I guess a way to bring her back is if the doctor doesn't tell river that he/she is the doctor.
That's why she said to bring her back after her last appearance
Her return makes no sense! We saw River "die" in silence in the library and we saw River say goodbye to peter capaldi so why bring her back? Leave some stories closed
You beat me to it. That is exactly what I think. Why ruin a great bow out!
You guys as Peter Capaldi said “SHUT UP”
It would make sence watch the video
But the order of the times she met the doctor wasn't straightforward...
It would kind of make sense actually as river doesn't have any concurrent meet up with the doctor so it could be added that it happened before silence in the library.
Remember ...River's ghost was there when Clara jumped into the Doctor's time stream......
*SPOILERS*
I would love a River Song spin off with either Clara as a regular or for a couple of appearances. I don't think it was explained how River projected herself into Clara's mind. If they also confirmed that Clara is one of River's wives that would be amazing and if not give River a different girlfriend/wife.
Joining in the petition here in the comments to say Bring Back Alex as River Song! 😍
Want her to be in a multi-Doctor story!
I have a wonderful photo of me next to her at a convention where she looks (and was) absolutely lovely, & I have the world’s biggest, goofiest grin!
Love Alex! Love River! 💜💜➕🌈🟦
Forget multi-Doctor, I want multi-River!
Coming late to the party on this, but what would be an interesting River Song spin-off series would be one where…
…she’s an archæologist, solving Mysteries by digging things up, rather than sci-fi.
Like, yerkno, Bonekickers but done properly
Rule 1, The Doctor Lies, Rule 2, the writers of Doctor Who Lie
We won't give up hope, Ellie. The question was in relation to the 15th Doctor. IF RTD was telling the truth this time, there's still hope for the future. You gave some very valid ways in which River could return. River / Alex Kingston must return. Listen to your audience, RTD!
I love River, but I'm even more happy that Moffet is going to continue to write for the show. A story with both Moffet and RTD working together is greater than the sum of its parts.
Just wait to how HAPPY YOU WILL BE WHEN SHE RETURNS
Poor Ellie
This news broke me too😢. I hope it's a lie. River is such an amazing character & there's so much room for her in the show.
Okay... I am the one who's going to rip off the bandage by saying Russel T. Davies sucks... He made Ellie cry!
How sweet it would be to have River Song be back, again, this time in season 15.☺️😇
I am so sorry for your loss
Thank you
River's story has been completed for a good while.
As always, if the writers can come up with a good story to bring her back for, I would have no objections. But nothing about her story's state requires her to come back.
True, sadly.
Well wrapped up.
We can hope…..
I badly badly need Tennant and Kingston to have a reunion as 10/14 and River. I'd love nothing more
This is slightly unrelated but I will never forget when Alex Kingston, David Tennant, and Matt smith came to New York comic con and there was a Doctor who Q&A,
And most people who asked questions (the ones in there like mid 40s) would ask very nsfw questions about river song and the two doctor’s,
Almost like trying to verify or canonize there fan fictions 😅😥
I wish I could remember things the way some of these people do. :-(
Everyone go to the official doctor who RUclips channel and put this in the comments get this trending #bringriverback
They did say we wouldn't get any returning villains in the last series, so I don't trust them
Since death (or being stuck in a library matrix) is never permanent, I am sure there is an OP villain out there who is quite willing to pour salt in The Doctor's wounds and rub it in vigorously by brining back River. Of course River would trick the villain and turn the tables on them.
And don't say that they couldn't do it because it was done with other characters, Doctor Who reuses that trope at least once every third doctor and that is not counting The Master.
WhoCulture: “River Song is not coming back” 😢
Me: “Oh no! Anyway 😌”
Dead meme is dead.
It's easy to bring River back from The Library. The Library has transporters. Why not use one to give River a new body? They could make up something about having to work around safeguards to prevent it but it's still doable.
The last time River Song saw the Doctor, he was older. That’s not the current Doctor.
River (Alex) Has always been and will always be the best character in Doctor Who... I would LOVE a River Song spin off. and there are a million and one story ideas floating through my head that would be perfect for it so I am sure Moffit or RTD could come up with half that number and make it work.
every stage of grief in one video 🥲
i am so happy that river never returns
@@Legendary3DgamerWhat's wrong with them? What's wrong with YOU? River's story is over, it's come full circle, and that's good. It's good when stories get a proper ending, because the alternative is endless regurgitation eventually ending in a lame fizzling out. Think about how the Master's ending got ruined by Chibnail bringing the character back, do you really want the same fate to befall River?
What about a river song series that each season explains the events between appearances on Dr who. Like Series 1 from birth to living with Rory and Amy.
Series 2 just after she regenerated from melody to River. And so on
bring River/ Alex Kingston !!!!!!!!
1:37 Ellie consoling herself with snarky sarcasm. Love the chuckle.
😢😢The Best Character 😢😢😢
“I trust that man to the end of the universe, and actually, we’ve been.” -Sounds like a perfect adventure for River to help The Doctor repair his foolishly spilling salt at the edge of the universe.
I really like that idea.
What if River Song projects herself into the Flesh, and that Flesh may end up becoming “River” through assimilation. That way it keeps River from having anymore regenerations
If it makes you feel any better, Rubbertoe replicas has the River Song Sonic available for pre-order :)
What if we get the return of young Melanie. Like the child in the states when she first regenerates
I’ve never seen such a terrible misspelling of Melody before!
@@DrWhoFanJ sorry autocorrect. One of my best friends is called Melanie so it just went straight to that 😂
Imagine a river song show based on her story when she is not with the doctor
Why did they do that
I was always surprised the 60th never had river as she seemed to recognise 10 was always hoping for another on screen meet between 10 and river
Never forget The Doctor, and RTD, both lie.
Miss Kingston's role as River was more as perfect, she was a walking mistery !
Her. Story. Is. Done.
I think its very interesting he specifically said "Alex Kingston" and not "River/River Song"
For me personally I don't want her back, I love her to death she's one of my favorites but to me the husbands of river song was such a perfect ending and I want it to stay that way. Now things like stories with younger doctors or self adventures, I'm down for that.
"Melody Pond"... "River Song" ... " "... Calling it now -- Mrs. Flood's first name is going to be something like "Harmony".
River Song aka Alex Kingston, just has to come back, please make an old man happy. Thanks, Sweetie!
Has RPD ruffled people's feathers before?
Also, Ellie, it's always nice to see you. And your crisp accent is forever wonderful. Thanks for the video.
ncuti shouting 'RIVER' is all I need.
My theory -
Reveal 1 - Mrs Flood’s first name is music related. Let’s say Symphony . Melody-Song-Symphony. This goes woth the water themed surname. Pond-River-Flood.
Reveal 2 - We see a stuffed blue notebook on Mrs Flood’s shelf.
Reveal 3 - Mrs Flood ends a monologue to camera with the word: “Spoilers.”
Final reveal - Mrs Flood is an android.
A spinoff with River and 14 would be nice
So the Christmas special will have river song? That’s great news.
We so need river back man she is my fav Character other tjan the doctor she im was just amazing
