Bought one last year. Waited to post until I had a bit more time using it.
I'm living in PA, smack middle of hilly coal country, so I have about 1 inch of topsoil with rocky soil underneath. I set up some raised beds the years before, but with the lumberprices going up so hard I felt a tiller would in the end be more practical. It works well enough for smaller plots at a time.
Had to make 4 passes here the first time (getting rid of the grass, weeds and smaller rocks in the first pass, digging in the 2nd pass, stopped to get a crowbar to remove larger rocks (talking about 10+ inches) a bit deeper down where I noticed them during the 2nd pass, then did a 3rd and 4th pass to really dig in and each time mix in a special mix I made of topsoil, pottingsoil and compost because the soil itself here is absolutely horrible.
But redoing this year one pass was enough for the 2 plots I did last year to get the weeds out and mix in some more topsoil.
I'm extending my vegetable garden a bit each year, so I open up about 2 plots of of 4'x20' this year again. I drained the engine of oil and gas before winter to store it. No issues at all this year with starting it after fresh fluids.
If you plan on doing smaller plots at a time, it works great. Wouldn't want to do a large plot with it. Engine comes with 5 year warranty. As I said, haven't had any issues yet.

I believe rocks are a universal crop. If I had a nickel for every rock.......
Our garden is really heavy clay and we have had to amend it every year and it is getting better.
      Thanks for watching

You will hate how quickly the cast aluminum transmission casing breaks. I have had mine five years and just broke the second transmission housing today. Replaced the last one for $170. Terrible. The first time, I hit a rock and it broke. This second time, I don't even know what happened and it quit working, looked underneath only to find the back of the housing all cracked up.

They are basically a throw away tiller used mine just for weed control after breaking ground with my big tractor. Used it for one and a half seasons and now the transmission is binding up. Just junk invest in something more substantial that will last more than a season of light duty tilling.

Tillering soft dirt. Hell I could do that with a rake. How good is it on hard dirt ?

    • @fromthewoodsyyc
      @fromthewoodsyyc  3 года назад +1

The soil in the garden is or was mostly clay.
It turns to concrete when dry. And the tiller did help in making the dirt softer. I can not comment on how it works on non-tilled land but will try this spring. My guess is its too small to really till deeply on hard soil right away. We did not buy it to open up new garden space but to help with bed preparation.

How tall are you? Did u feel the handles were tall enough ? I checked out the floor model at thiesens and it seemed real short handle height (I’m 6 4)

I'm 6'4" as well and everything is a bit short for me so I really didn't take notice but that may explain the tense back muscles. I would have to say it felt a bit short as well.

For 6'4" even the highest stance might be a bit on the short side.

I bought one of these last summer. Works great but... this season the engine surges. I noticed the air filter box is broken somehow. I just spent hours online looking for an air filter and box and found to my shock that the parent company (Ardisam Inc) doesn't show any engine parts at all! They only show the parts for the tiller, but nothing for the engine!! Not even an air filter, let alone the box for it. I googled the 99cc Viper engine and found an air breather kit part number, but nowhere to buy the kit, but although they show the box in the diagram, there is no number for that. First, the box should not have fallen apart over the winter. It was stored in a shed. Second, have you ever heard of a company selling a product like this and not giving any option to buy the parts to maintain the engine? I wouldn't recommend this machine, or any other product from Ardisam Inc to my worst enemy. Disgusting business practice to not supply parts for their product that's less than a year old...

I've only had mine for one season and its been sitting for the winter so I have not tried it this year yet. Hoping it starts and goes for at least two or more years. Sorry to hear about your troubled machine but it was recommended to me by a reputable dealer. Hard to find quality machines at a decent price point these days.

You get what you pay for. If you want a tiller with a bunch of options and great service , as well as extensive engine replacement parts you buy one with a engine made by a large engine manufacturer, like a tecumseh, honda, briggs,,,,not a propietary engine made specificaly for one tiller only..and you pay upwards of $500 or $700. You dont get big price options and reliability for half the going price..on anything. If this tiller runs and workd 2 or 3 seasons, you are doing good. To expect more out of it is pie in the sky wishing.

Same here bought mine knowing its light duty that is all I needed it for light duty jobs. Used it once, Stored it for winter. Took it out today installed fresh gas in tank and carburetor. It will not start for love of money. Year old with 4 hrs on it. Its going to the recycling at the land fill. Just dont have the time and energy.

DON'T WAISTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TILLER. I bought this tiller April 22 2021. the gearbox stripped out May 6 2022. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that part was discontinued. WHAT??? The tiller is barely a year old and the parts are discontinued? Oh they were very sorry but offered absolutely no solution, support, or compensation. Now i have perfectly good engine and frame that are rendered useless.
