- TP-LINK TL-WR802N Pocket/Travel Router Initial Observations
My initial observations.
Model: TL-WR802N
Got it on amazon.com
Observations:
* Ethernet is 10/100 Mb/s
* 5 modes
Wireless Router(Default) - wired ethernet to your modem, wifi antenna as access point
* Hotspot Router - connects to hotel's wifi, rebroadcasts to your devices.
* Access Point - connects to your existing router, internal routing disabled
* Range Extender - rebroadcasts wifi signal in another room
* Client - similar to plugging in a USB wifi dongle. This device will connect to a hotel wifi then you plug your laptop to TP's ethernet jack
* operates warm
* I did a burn in test for a few days. The unit stayed up.
* note SSID and key/password on bottom. You should change that later
* once connected, you can connect to the TP-Link's controls by putting this in your web browser: put in tplinkwifi.net. But better to put in 192.168.0.1.
* There's a 300 page manual available for download on their website. But the very large manual is full of errors and typos.
* comes with a wall plug and cable - standard micro USB. You can use it to charge your phone. And vice versa, you can use your phone charger to power the TP-Link.
* It comes with an ethernet cable. Its a flat cat 5 patch cable.
* there's no battery. You would need a phone charger to power the TP-Link pocket router. You can also use a battery powered portable charger to run the TP-Link.
* There's a single green LED. flashing = no internet, solid=ok
* There are two antennas. They make a springy sound. They are perpendicular to each other.
* Reliability with wifi has been ok. But expected for this low priced tiny device. If you need 24/7 service, don't expect this to survive.
* The TP-Link router seems to be prone to interference
* It is stable with ethernet connections
* I measured the inside CPU temperature to be 103F max
