    If you just took the backplate off the strings would slide in and out and you'd know that they're properly seated, as opposed to messing with the trem arm and guessing. And if you really only change your strings once a year you should really consider Elixir strings. It would make a huge difference. Now I'm no sage but I know that much.

    Always loosen strings before cutting them, will release that tension, and one string at a time sounds a bit better

    Should at least loosen the strings before clipping them

      Yes, that's a myth. The neck will relieve slightly, but it won't break the neck or harm it.

    Thanks allot brother, if you don't change your strings that often then I recommend looking into 'Pyramid Classic Nickel Guitar Strings', they are superior quality and last a long long time. They have a traditionally vintage round steel core construction and not the hexagonal cheap shit they make nowadays, ANYWAYS thanks again =)

    Always loosen your strings before cutting them that sudden shock will damage the neck over time

    I inherited a guitar like that in the 70- 80's from my grandma. I end up hockey it . I thought it looked out dated and like the other guitars of the 80's. I was a fool. Now i want to buy one just like it.

  • @salsplace

    You should clean the fretboard before conditioning it. Dirt and grime gets caught in the crevices on Rosewood. Maybe even polish the frets a bit with a fret eraser or steel wool.

    • @rickb4806
      @rickb4806 8 лет назад

      Yes. My pro guitar friend and a luthier told to use very fine steel wool. Gentle along the neck, (not against it). Cover the pickups as they are magnetic and you dont want to have the wool dust sticking inside.

    • @Texturas75
      @Texturas75 6 лет назад

      So do I need a fretboard cleaner in addition to the conditioner? Or can I get away with some water? I have a rosewood board too.

    Your bridge is not floating is it? How about a video on stringing up a start with a floating bridge? If it were floating, wouldn’t all the strings change pitch when you tune up one string?

      What's more, he never mentions which direction to turn the string winder - I did it the wrong way! (I should know better as I've changed strings before, though many years ago - but this is supposed to be a beginner video.). He could have picked up the guitar and moved it closer to the camera just for a few seconds to show how exactly they look when there wrap around the pegs.

    Tensile isn't a noun. Tensile describes a type of mechanical stress or strength IE tensile stress or tensile strength. Tensile stress literally means stress in a material due to tension. The same way compressive stress is stress in the material due to compression.

    Hello. I am looking to purchase those type of tuners for my Stratocaster. What are they called? Vintage tuners or vintage locking tuners? Any info I would appreciate it. I've been looking on Ebay.

  • @paulbraun5657
    @paulbraun5657 3 года назад

    Thanks for this! I've just bought a set of D'Addario strings for the first time. I was shocked that they didn't each come in an envelope saying which string was which like Ernie Ball and AFAIK everyone else! You were the one who pointed this out to me. Unfortunately, I'd already changed the top two strings. This means that the second string is in the first string position and the third string is in the second string position! I'll have to remove them and start again. As for stretching the strings, I've never done that before, but it is also in the latest book I've bought about guitars, although I've been playing for years and years. Metal strings, wires, and cables have tensile strength, not tinsel. People can also develop tensile strength in their tendons by practising Wing Chun Kung Fu. This is an alternative to muscular strength.

    Awesome Video! I've done it a handful of times and picked up a few new things watching this to my surprise. The only thing I didn't like is clipping the strings in the beginning instead of unwinding them. I think it seemed uglier when I did it on my guitar because before I watched this video I wasn't leaving slack when I twist them. So when I went to cut the strings there was that much more tension from not leaving slack. It probably won't be as bad next time since I did it correctly now and it feels ultimately better.

    I'm not an expert so i watched this to make sure I don't forever miss an important step in replacing strings. Couple things I'm thinking to do different right now changing my strings is slacken before cutting strings, clean the fretboard, try using the trem bar to stretch the new strings because it's there and use a pencil to "draw" graphite into the nut grooves since I expended all my nut sauce.

    Every bit I needed to know; as a completely new owner and hopeful user of a very worn Fender Squier Strat; with a popped string.
    After watching the first ten minutes, I went from being very apprehensive about replacing the string myself, to having a go at it; and it works.
    I still need a few bits to be sorted out, and then have a go at wielding this legendary Sweihänder :3

    i like this guy tho really, he comes across so laid back. Plus he has cats and cats always hang around when guitar strings are rattling and making noise. My cat nearly lost an eye once when he nose dived up onto my workbench, lol i had a 60gauge string just sticking right out from the headstock nut.

    10-46...or aby 10-42...i dont care, haha. when it is 10*s is always a 46 low e when it is a 9 set it is 42 unless it is a hybrid set witch i use 10-52 or 9-46. I like to use 10's with a 52 för the low e on my V and on my lp but on my strat i like to use regular 10's =) and i always use polish on my guitar becuse it looks nice=) and of course i also use lemon oil for the fretboard=) and my stringbrand is Elixir=)

      It’s a 65. With a $15,000 guitar, you want to make sure all the pieces stay together. Plus, taking the plate off does not help that much. My others strata have them off and you still have to insert them into the holes in the back.
