    Click Here to check out video: www.prospeedba... Baseball Beginner Training | How to Throw (Pro Speed Baseball)
    In this video we are going over the proper progression on how to teach a beginner how to throw a baseball. We will go over the most common mistakes most young aspiring baseball players make and the one position that takes care every mistake.
    We will first get in the proper throwing position and learn how to throw using both arms efficiently. The first phase will be with no step where the player throws from a still position. The second phase we will then add a small step towards the target. And when the player has mastered the first two steps, the final step is a shuffle towards the target and then throw.
    If done in progression, making sure each progression is mastered, the player will have built a solid throwing foundation to build from.
    I look forward to helping you improve your baseball in the future!

    Just watched this video 10 min before coaching my son's team. Did the 3-stage process exactly as shown. Kids responded really well, loving the YES!! position of the left arm. I had them lined up and throwing against a fence, so I could watch each one in turn. Had other coaches giving me props because the results were so good. Thanks for sharing, great video.

    Can't believe that I need this video. I remember when I was 6, I just threw the ball with my arms naturally moving the way it should. Pitching was the thing that I had to be taught, but somehow I feel helpless trying to show my 6 year old the basics of throwing & it's baffling because kids today seem so much smarter.

      +Caleb Hensley Hey Caleb, thanks for the comment!
      We can definitely help you here at ProSpeedBaseball.com, you can check out our programs at our website.
      If you're just starting out playing, know that it takes a good amount of repetition to develop strong and accurate throwing mechanics.
      For the short term, I would recommend practicing with nice relaxed throws being as accurate as you can be every day.
      If you do this, you will have a good jump on getting in some repetition, and you're accuracy and arm strength will continuously improve. Just make sure there's no pain, and to stop if you feel any pain!
      Hope this helps! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

      I think it's really just fundamentals. Coach here mentions kids because most US adult ball players already throw more-or-less correctly (at least I assume so), and so most how-to-throw coaching will be with kids.
      However, I'm an Englishman in the UK and we have some new players in our club who need to learn how to throw in much the same way as a kid would need to learn how to throw, but I don't know how to teach this skill, so I'm hoping the ideas in this video will help. 🤞🤞🤞

      haha, great question! I've ran into this once or twice in my years teaching... and by once or twice, I mean almost every single kid. :P
      My best tip for that is either get a coach/third party to help relay the message or be there for support and ask them if they want help when they start to struggle, vs offering help... for whatever reason, it's much better for them to ask... so saying something, like, "hey, I'll throw BP for you, hit your grounders, etc... if you want some help on doing it better, just let me know." Tough one to crack, but hope this helps!

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  4 года назад

      Hey Darren, thanks for the question! This is a very common issue with young players. Get a tennis ball and a baseball, draw a straight line around the equator of the ball (ideally set up for a 4 seam fastball) with a sharpie. With the baseball, you can play catch and get the line to go end over end so you can see it... the tennis ball is for at home where they can throw the ball against the ground, wall or lay on back and throw into air doing the same thing, getting the line to go end over end. It's important to allow them to still throw as naturally as possible, so not trying to aim or throw the ball like a dart, but to make throws gripping a four seam and over time getting that line perfect. Hope this helps out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    Still waiting for the video which teaches the arm and wrist motion. Believe it or not, it's not natural to everyone to use your wrist in throwing the ball. You show the person using it without talking about it, as though everyone already knows it. I had a throwing problem growing up. I had no idea what I was doing wrong. I wasn't using my wrist. If I'd watched this video, it wouldn't have helped me at all.

  • @65tswood

    I really appreciate your willingness to respond to questions and work with people. I wasn't going to ask because I I wasn't sure you were still responding, but saw some of your responses are only a couple months old. I've got a five-year-old I'm working on trying to teach the game to. My focus has always been fundamentals, but lately he's been struggling to make good powerful throws. I think part of the problem is we focus so much on the details that when it comes time to put them in action he gets hung up on the small things and cannot perform. Also I have specific questions on your form, glove hand pointing at the Target or elbow pointing at the Target? Also seems you prefer to open up the front foot, I've always thought that caused the shoulders to open up and have errant balls flying out away from the target. Any input would be appreciated.

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  4 года назад +2

      Hey Tyrel, thanks for the question. You pretty much answered it yourself.... getting kids too young focused on the details can be hazardous to their game. Most young kids, not all, but most will be very close to good mechanics at a young age... whether that be hitting or throwing. Their minds are great at solving simple problems, so it's very advantageous to give them very general direction and stick with that. If you give them a simple goal to accomplish, they will most likely find the best solution to accomplish that goal. A great test study is younger brothers... a lot of younger brothers end up being very good because they see their older brother play and over time they see what the older brother is trying to accomplish. They also have a unique ability to sift out the details. For example: if a coach tells older brother to hold the ball a certain way and finish the throw.... all the younger brother sees is the brother trying to throw to a target. When their minds are still working this way, it's important to give them these simple goals and let them do the math on their own.... again to an extent. The greatest instruction you can give to younger players is: Throw it that way.... or Hit it that way. Then as they develop, you can make minor tweaks to their mechanics over time, if they even need any. Hitting can get a little off if they thing the goal is to hit the ball into the air verses line drives, but throwing is much more simple on their minds. They want to throw it at a target and throw it fast. So in summary, I would highly recommend taking a very simple approach. Hit me in the chest, if he doesn't do it, then try again. Rinse and repeat. Hope this helps out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    My son is in his first year, I'm happy with his progression because of your videos, particularly this one. His basic mechanics are probably one of the better on the team, which consists of mostly older boys. However he seems to lack power, and the ball often flutters out of his hands, into a short lobbing throw. Any suggestions?

      +Lewis Upfold Hey Lewis, thanks for the question! Glad the videos are helping out as well!
      It's tough to say, if you're son is a little younger, anywhere form 6-9ish it could be just a matter of experience and repetition. The more he does it the easier it's going to get. Especially at a younger age.
      As long as his goal is to make good throws and he is practicing good mechanics, he will be good to go!
      A quick suggestion would be to start working on a shuffle step to gain some momentum in the throw. Where both feet do a skip-like motion before the throw.
      Hope this helps out. If you guys have any other questions on this or anything else, please feel free to hit me up anytime!

      +Pro Speed Baseball Thank you for the advice, and peace of mind too. He's only 6, I just don't want him to develop bad habits that will be hard to break out of. One thing that helps is the "yes" motion. A big problem he has is letting that glove hand flail, it basically twists his body around rather than forward would be the best explanation. Being 6, he doesn't always know he's doing it, even when I remind him ti "yes." One drill I've been working on with him to get him aware of the benefits of bring that arm in, is having him keep it close to him before the throw. Even having him put his glove on the opposite hip. t's just a drill, to show him about where his glove should end up, and the power/accuracy that comes from it. Working my way to getting him to point then pull it in, though. Also working on that step that you suggest. Thank you for the input.

      Anytime! Glad to hear you're getting him started on the right foot! Going to go a long way as he gets older.
      The struggle with him not knowing he's doing something is perfectly normal, especially for someone his age. As long as there is consistent reminders and he's practicing he right stuff, he'll be good to go!
      Good Luck out there!
