i heard about the news about CGA. super grateful i got to experience this park. hopefully it can stay for a little longer.
You need to go to Hershey Park for a vlog
They have tons of thrill rides and roller coasters
But yes I really want to go here but live almost 6 hours away from California’s great America so sad they have to close it for a dumb warehouse
This is my home theme park and I’ve been going there with my church since I was like 6 so it’s gonna be very sad for me.
In 10 years CGA will close.
That fact that you laugh so hard when riding these intense G force rides , while am just quiet but extremely terrified 😹
Why are you terrified? Roller coasters are completely safe and accidents are VERY rare. If a roller coaster stops on it’s lift hill, it it’s doing it’s job. The ride stopped there for a reason. If it’s a mechanical issue or someone pulling their phone out on a ride, they can and will stop the ride on the lift.
@@TrainCoasterFan 😳🥺😩
@@TrainCoasterFan i just get scared with what rollercoasters put me through 😭 like it’s typically only temporary but the feeling of like zero g’s, floating always throws me off 😕
Same
@@TrainCoasterFan is because of the g force
This park has a very interesting history. You should look it up. I grew up going here, and all I can say is that it was waaaaaay better in the 90's. The park has a lot of room and open space because they've taken out so many rides.
The days of Marriott's Great America.
Yeah bro I've lived in the Bay Area my whole life. I've been going to that place since I was a kid back in the 80s. I was going to say the exact same thing. It's a shame what they've done to that place.
I haven't been since the late 90s, but I agree. I still miss The Edge. That anticipation waiting for the click and then the fall. And the "floating" coins.
Yup you know. I was born and raised in San Jose so I remember it as Paramounts GA. I remember having season passes every year and would go all the time
It's all about stealth if you remember that ride.
The reaction to railblazer was so genuine 😂
it’s crazy
@@daylanLA BRO YOU DIDNT RIDE IT IN THE BACKROW?!? Single rail coasters are fucking 2x more intense in the backrow it's actually scary how catoonishly fast it is. Hopefully you get on the backrow nextime!!

Thanks for repping our quirky little theme park. I’ve been going since it first opened back in 1976. I truly hope they don’t close it as rumored. It’s a Bay Area landmark.
Sad that The Grizzly was closed. It’s a fun old wooden coaster. I grew up going to Great America and remember when it was Paramount’s Great America instead of California’s Great America. Planet Snoopy used to be Smurf themed and then it was Nickelodeon themed.
I grew up going to this park when it was Marriott's Great America.
Ghostrider was built by CCI (Custom Coasters International) and later rennovated by GCI (Great Coasters International). Gold Striker was built by GCI so Ghostrider and Gold Striker are almost the same in terms of who built it.
Who cares go get some bitches
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. I'm an enthusiast
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. I haven't been to MM but I might go next year. I'm still a relatively new enthusiast so the biggest thing for me is Velocicoaster. I'm actually gonna ride Desperado, and The Big Apple, and possibly Canyon Blaster this weekend. They certainly do get a lot of hate (especially The Big Apple) but I need every credit I can get since I'm kinda new and don't have too many. Also, I'm asking this based off you profile pic, but how is Desperado?
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. Sounds awesome. I love myself some good ejector airtime. When I said "they certainly do get a lot of hate" I was more referring to The Big Apple and Desperado.
True but, gci also retract it
California Great America and Six Flags Great America were both originally sister parks owned and operated by Marriott's. One was acquired by Six Flags, the other acquired by Paramount at the time. That's why they both have The Demon and Double Decker Carousel at the entrance.
Never knew that that’s crazy theme park facts
i have been sick all week and watching your videos make me feel a lot better. Keep up the great work bro!
Wow my hometown park with lots of memories. I remember riding the Edge, Demon, Revolution, and the Whizzer as a kid. My love for roller coasters and thrill rides was all due to family fun at GA. I’ve since graduated to much bigger coasters and thrill rides. Great to see my home park on YT.
Would anyone know if there are height/noise etc restrictions or zoning issues or regulations in Northern California theme parks? Is that why we don’t see 300ft tall coasters?
To this very day I still don't understand why they got rid of the Triple Wheel. :( It was the perfect end-of-day ride when you were all tired. Grab a frozen lemonade, then sit on the Triple Wheel for a good 15 minutes. It was my little ritual. I miss that iconic ride. I also miss The Edge. Another iconic ride.
BRO THATS ILLINOIS GREAT AMEROCA NOT CALROFORNIAS GREAT AMERICA
I think there are noise regulations, because they had to slightly adjust Goldstriker to muffle the sound, as they were getting complaints from all the big tech companies in the area. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why there aren't any gigas there either.
Flight deck was called Top Gun and you had the Days of Thunder simulator...Patriot, was called Vortex, was my first looping coaster. They shot Beverly Hills Cop 3 at the park.
Railblazer and when you almost blacked out was the best part. Love the video, best part of my day
Thanks for the video. I'm from San Francisco and went there as a child and took my young children there almost 10 years ago. I live abroad now and miss it so much ! So much nostalgia and I never went on the newer rides !
Flight Deck gives me Ninja vibes from six flags
Flight Deck is a B&M Invert where Ninja at Magic Mountain is an Arrow suspended.
Just wanted to say ur vids are amazing every time I get home from school I get really excited to watch ur vids keep on the good work my man
Great America was originally built by Marriott's in the mid 70s. A duplicate one was also built outside of Chicago and is now Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. The entrance with the double decker carousel is the same in Chicago. The Demon roller coaster is very old school. I rode it when I was 12 in 1982 in Chicago with the lighted tunnel. There was a story and a song about the ride that went with it and played while you were waiting in line.
Both parks were near duplicates originally. When I saw the thumbnail image of this video I initially thought this was a review of the Chicago Great America - the Demon is still running there and other duplicate rides such as Centrifuge. I'm glad to see CGA has the Orbit - my son would like that (they decommissioned it at Chicago GA. But for those of you nostalgic for other older rides such as the Whizzer they are still operating in Chicago, come visit. It's too bad both parks got rid of the IMAX, they were a great way to relax and rest weary feet plus the short films were great - Earth views from space, riding in the cockpit of the Blue Angels, etc - not like what IMAX does today by screening boring Hollywood films.
I still have an mp3 of the full Demon queue track...every few years I listen to it. But it was once considered a "special effects" coaster with the fog, soundtrack, chase lights and blood waterfall. Too bad most of it is all gone, including the rocks on...second loop, or the first?
Yep. The one in Chicago is a lot bigger and has more rollers coasters. Its one of the better six flags parks that's doing farely well.
Your yips of laughter on that single-rail coaster sold it for me. It also looked so smooth.
bro that thing looked like a lego roller coaster pov
When I first saw your vids I thought you had at least one million subs your underated
One of my favorite parks I have ever been to, just the one time I went it was really fun
This was my first big theme park I ever been to growing up here in the bay area. Spent many summers as a kid and teenager at Great America. The park has gone through many changes in all of it's years but still has a special place in my heart. The Demon was my first roller coaster I ever rode on and it still rocks after all these years...🎢
Glad to see you at my home town park! The Grizzly is ………….. not great but if you want the most insane ride, hit the back row. Patriot used to be Vortex and a stand up set up. I preferred it stand up but it’s still a smooth great ride! The chicken shack next to the fly ride is my favorite spot to chill! Come back soon Please!
I appreciate his vlogs so much. He posts so much!
3:50 Best drop reaction ever XD
This is my local park, and let me tell you… it’s honestly a good thing you didn’t get to ride grizzly. It’s probably the worst coaster there because of how much it hurts to ride. Glad you enjoyed the other attractions tho!
I'm from Brazil and I really like your videos. I hope to someday visit the parks you go to and especially ride the roller coaster you go! hahah Congratulations for your work!!
Bro, you deserve so much more subs! The quality of your videos are on point and amazing! Keep up the good work man! 😃
That's my hometown park before I moved to OC. Before Cedar Fair bought it it was a dump and barren. They added Railblazer, Goldstriker, rethemed Vortex to Patriot, and added some greenery to make it more like Knott's. Barely any coasters, the ones they have are old and not great (except for Top Gun aka Flight Deck). Lowkey it's kind of good that the Grizzly was closed because it's one of the worst wooden coasters around. But I like that you stay positive. I didn't have that same positive opinion of the Demon as you do. It's funny that you saw a lot of security because so may gang fights break out there.
I don’t even like roller coasters but I enjoy your channel a lot! Thank you for the amazing content 😁
that laugh when he was on single rail 😳😳
Did he Sink
this brings back memories. grew up in SJ and this was always a fun place to be at even when i wasnt a big fan of the rides.
great to know that you love my home park! I love everything about it!
Sorry to hear this is your homepark after the news today.
So sorry

@@kadenontop3760 by eleven years, I just searched it up and that is very sad. also six flags discovery kingdom is still nearby but nothing will ever beat Great America in this area.
As someone that has been to Great America a lot, I got pretty excited to see you go here
Amazing content!!! I swear never disappoint ❤️❤️
This park along with Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois was founded in 1976. They were both owned by Marriot’s. They eventually broke away from each other. California was owned by Knots Berry and Gurnee was owned by Six Flags.
hey daylan its my b-day and hope you had fun that day!
Once again great vid man! keep up the awesome work
I just found your channel like a month ago and your channel awesome at remember me when you get famous bro
Damn bro. I’ve been watching you on RUclips for hella long and I always watch your amusement park vlogs and now I found out you visited my hometown amusement park like that’s so insane to me 😭
How are you used to roller coasters can you tell me pleace!,!!!!!
Cali Great America is like if knotts berry farm and six flags had a baby, good park 👌
Things to know about this theme park:
1) It was previously owned by Six Flags and then by Paramount so you are not wrong to say that it has Six Flags vibes.
2) The demon is one of the oldest rides in the park. It is a sister coaster of the Viper in Magic Mountain. Same manufacturer.
3) Flight Deck was installed when the park was owned by Paramount and was originally called "Top Gun"
4) That blue roller coaster you rode on was once called "The Vortex" and was green. Not sure why it got a color change and a rebrand.
The grizzly was the signature wooden coaster of the park but it isn't special. Got a few rough bumps to it but that's all.
The drop zone ride that was down is ok. They brought that in to replace what was one of the signature rides of the park - the Edge. It was torn down years ago but it was a classic. Look up the edge.
Finally, I don't know if you went on it but there's a swinging boat ride in that park that used to be called "The Revolution". Its got some other name like "The Endevor" now. That is the one last great ride in that park I didn't see represented in your video. Its great for the sheer amount of time you hang upside down and one of the best of that type of roller coaster in the world.
Oh... and it was owned at one point by Marriot. Forgot that.
Now this video took me back. I grew up going to this park back when it was Marriot's Great America (original builder). Back then Looney Tunes was the character theming with a patriotic flair. The double decker carousel and the sky buckets I believe may be the only original rides left. The Demon came later in the early 80's (?) along with the Grizzly in late 80's.
I think the last time I went there was in 1996 or 97 when Paramount owned it. I moved away from the Bay, but now reside near the current owner's home park in Sandusky, Ohio. Come out try Cedar Point coasters if you ever get the chance. Cheers.
Fun fact...Beverly Hills Cop 3 was filmed at this park. Not that anybody saw that movie. Shows some of the old rides like the three armed Ferris wheel.
Fun fact 2...CGA has a sister theme park that was built by Marriot as well north of Chicago. It was sold to Six Flags way back though. At the time they had the same rides, though now alot has changed.
Omg you are so lucky to live next to Cedar Point. My favorite PLACE on earth is Cedar Point. Such a beautiful park, hope you come back to visit soon 😊
Im glad to see u posted again daylan!
i always get that feeling of when you stand up really fast on that drop to the turn on flight deck, feels like im going to black out
Thank you for this! I hate huge drops and these are not that bad! I can definitely enjoy these roller coasters.
Whenever I see video of California's Great America, I can't help but notice how 'lite' the crowd is compared to my home park of Six Flags Great America. Nice video, good camera work. Thanks.
The park just opened and is only opened on weekends right now. That’s why lite crowd plus some of those days are members only says but the park did pick up a lot so once it opens up more for example once the water park opens for the season their will be long lines at every ride
I think this was early in the season but also Six Flags Great America is really the only big theme park in the area whereas California's Great America is an hour away from Discovery Kingdom. Six Flags pulls from Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois so it gets a lot of people. California has six large roller coasters whereas six flags has 11 (12 if you count the larson loop)
@@playerstar252 ...thanks for your comment. what you say is so very true. Near Six Flags Great America live ga-gillions of people from Chicago and Milwaukee (and their respective metro areas). Yet at the same time there such little competition for Six Flags Great America. Not only is it Hyper-crowded 99% of the time, but the service at every level is horrible. Rides, Food, Entertainment all horrible. Pre PRE PRe-Covid from the mid 1990's through now, always grossly understaffed. I've been going there since it opened in 1976 (it's my home park, been there 100's of times over the many years. It is very sad to see how all service levels have fallen to such lows. I feel sorry for the teen / young adult group now, they don't realize how good it once was and how bad it is now. Sad.
CGA was actually part of two identical Parks built by the Marriott Corporation in 1976, One in Santa Clara California and one in Gurnee Illinois which is actually my home park Thats why people say it looks like a SixFlags because the Sister Park in Gurnee was bought by SixFlags in the 80s
Very Interesting history. Thanks for the facts!
@@daylanLA No problem if you need anything thing to know anything abt great America you can always come to me 👍
I have never been this early. I love your videos!
Go back during the summer, I just went with a bunch of friends and we went to the water park and theme park. Had fast passes and got on almost everything In a day, it was great!
Park opened in 1976. Its original sister park is located in Gurnee Illinios. It was owned by Marriott, the city of Santa Clara, Paramount, Cedar Fair, and almost got bought by the 49ers. There have been several coasters removed over the years. The Tidal Wave, Stealth (First flying coaster), Invertigo, and Willard's Whizzer. There also have been countless other rides that have been removed. There have been several periods of uncertainty about the park's future which explained why there were many attractions removed and few added. Seems like the future is pretty solid now and it's a safe bet the park will be there for years to come. Also keep in mind with the Demon that this ride was one of the opening day attractions at the park 46 years ago. It was modified with loops added a few years later but it was a pretty scary and bad ass ride in its day.
The demon is an old Arrow. I remember when it opened back in the 1970s. First drop was into a single loop. Had problems so they replaced it with the 2 small loops. Home base park in 70s and 80s. Glad you liked it.
Was sap bro I just subscribe like a week ago and I cant stop watching yo vids every day.😎
the tall tower was Drop Zone in the 90s. there was an accident and a person fell from their seatup top, it wasnt secured. there were so many cool rides that came and went .
I remember I came here every weekend before quarantine
Grew up in the East Bay and went here and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and "Marine World" many times back in the 90's. Great America was poppin back then though, way busier and I remember more rides. The Demon was the first upside down roller coaster I have ever been on and I am glad to see that beast is still roarin'.
Wow, the Demon at this park is an exact duplicate of the Demon ride at Six Flags in IL! The only difference is in the first two loops where there is rock wall that you fly around. I rode the Demon at Six Flags many times when I was growing up. So fun! …and yes, it is a bit rough on the edges.
Wow that Trailblazer ride looks smooth as hell glad to know that it is :)
yooo im early recently found out of your channel and im enjoying this content
I grew up in San Jose and remember this as Paramount's Great America. Flight deck was named Top gun, grizzly and demon were known as the rough ass rides that were worth the temporary headache and the tall tower ride Drop Zone was wear every boy felt their nuts and stomach switch places for a few seconds. They had a Nickelodeon spot and the kids Area was Kidzville I believe. This brought back alot of memories Thank you for going to this park!
Demon is a super fun ride! I am super tall so it was scary when we went through the mouth of the demon rock because I thought my head was going to come clean off every time so I had to duck lol. Super fun though!
I grew up in San Jose so every year we had season passes.. love this park, take my kids here now.. glad you guys visited this one. Heck the Demon was there in 79 when I was 4 years old!
I absolutely love your giggle, love ❤️ it.
I remember going there in the 90s. The rides were top gun, vortex and some others I can’t remember. It was Paramount Great America at the time. I remember how hot on that day at 97 degrees F.
Omg I loved this. This place was my youth and haven’t been there it more then 10 years. Brings back memories!! 💙
you should see in the summer how crowded it is in summer
This is my home park, for Christmas break I came here countless times it was great. My favorite is railblazer the single rail coaster great airtime
You the goat bro keep grinding and I’m going there that summer wish I could’ve met u but it’s gone happen soon 🤞🏽❤️
Yessir Friday and Saturday be my favorite days now
You should check out six flags discovery kingdom in Vallejo California
I used to have a season pass when it was owned by Paramount. Some things look the same but im glad they made some new rides
I used to go here as a kid in the early 90's. It was "Paramounts" Great America. Flight Deck was "Top Gun", licensed! Lol. And they played Danger Zone on repeat while in line. There was a days of thunder thing as well. Demon was always the demon! There was another fun ride called the vortex, a standing type coaster - green. They also featured this park in Beverly Hills Cop III as wonder world, so of course part 3 was my favorite haha.
Flight deck used to be called top gun last time I been there u gotta go there in the summer time tho when the water park open too u can go back and forth to one another
This looks exactly like Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. Lol pretty sure that is an exact replica of the Demon from the Six Flags park....
Bro i have been waiting so long for this one.
Dude i havenr seen anythinf from this park since i moved in 2017 i had no idea they opened a single rail ride! But it was nice seeing the gold striker and the demon again for example, but yeah! Good vid it sound like yall had alot of fun 👍
I grew up in Sunnyvale and was at Marriotts Great America the day it opened. I still have the frisbee. I worked there in high school. I’ve been in LA now for 37 years and Disneyland is my home park now. I visited CGA for old times sake with my bff in July 2021. It was sadly rundown and worn out. The park needs a major overhaul. It was gorgeous in the 70 and 80s until Marriott sold it. Before the stadium was built, the park came close to being torn down.
When u get on ride do u just record with ur phone or is something attached
Thanks for giving such respect to my home park. Knots and six flags are my go to when I’m down south. You didn’t miss anything with the Grissly being down. Yea the demon is an arrow, but psycho mouse is an arrow too, I might be wrong but I heard it’s the last arrow wild mouse
Haven't heard of this place before than you for sharing it looks like a lot of fun
This was my theme park growing up. Was about 2 hours away. Grizzly was my first coaster, loved it. And Demon was my first coaster with an inversion.
you should definitely visit Carowinds!! It's a great place with great roller coasters!
Man that was my favorite spot when I was a kid. Every summer was our annual family trip.
When I lived in Cali, I used to go here all the time. The grizzly was one of my favorite rides until my safety bar flipped up right at the top before the drop of the ride. There were still seatbelts of course, and luckily I was able to pull the bar back down before it was too late.
That didn’t happen 💀
@@triple7marc I swear to god it did 💀💀💀 I stopped riding it after that
They changed the name to the Jizzly!
Demon was the 1st looping roller coaster I rode, back in 1983ish.
No It's Revolution At Magic mountain
omg, the Demon was my first upside down ride in the 90s, 3rd or 4th grade I was in. I did this ride to break me in because I was so scared to try upside down. cool, what a memory lane. thanks for posting
Fire vid and clips as always
Did they get rid of Drop Zone? Or did you just skip riding it? Always my favorite ride at GA

California's Great America was a sister park to my home park that is well Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL. That is why it looks like a Six Flags park.
I’m a huge fan of your channel and I have Knott’s passes.
Super random but my dad has been really missing going out to theme parks (we’re putting off going to crowded places for a couple more months) so I introduced him to the world of theme park content. He absolutely enjoys watching your videos and has compiled a list of places to visit because of your channel. Keep it up and thanks for making my dad smile.
hella wholesome
Also the sister park to cedar point I guess. i knew I recognized the flag on the entrance sign
Yo bro , what kind of camera were you using on the rides ? Mounted ?
You really need to come to Thorpe park in England!! It has great rides and a 205 ft ride and 80 mph
I lived a mile from there and was 10 years old when it opened!
That snoopy part used to be Nickelodeon themed and it was so much cooler! The demon and top gun (flight deck now) were my favorite. It’s a shame you guys didn’t get to go on the grizzly and drop zone those are both classics. The damn pirate ship that goes upside down is insane, anyways lol this brought be back man
Oh and that blue coaster used to be called vertex and you stood up while riding it lmao
5:35 "Looks like a face." I dunno why that rock face is funny but I cannot stop horse-laughing. 🐎😅
What a laugh you have. That made my day.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who laughs the whole ride
