I recently had an assignment to photograph a basketball game between two church groups. The Lumix G9 was up to the task. Here are some tips.

I didn't mention it in the video, but I also used the G9/35-100 f2.8 to shoot football practice a week ago. It wasn't as challenging so I used regular medium speed continuous drive with continuous AF. Published photos here: www.forestpark...

that 35-100 seems to be a good staple lens for photo journalism
Thanks for the tips! Should also work for my grandson's soccer games.
Definitely. I shot youth soccer a couple months back.
THANK YOU! I struggle with the focus and the G9 setup, you gave me hope. Do you know any settings where I can put the camera in the hand of another person and the photos will be sharp?
You're welcome. As far as a setting that will guarantee sharp photos in the hands of a non-photographer unfortunately no.

Thank you . I just purchased a G9 / used .. Using a G85 and OMS system . You attempt to educate there are different manual changes you may do to improve the tool G9 . My take many people what a quick fixes ! Thanks !
You’re welcome! I think people change systems before they master the one they have, regardless of brand.
I shoot many high school basketball games (girls), usually with a Nikon D750 and a Tamron 70-200 mm f2.8 G2 lens. I wouldn't think about shooting slower than 1/800. Of course, it depends on what light you have availabe, you do what you have to do.
Yes, I generally shoot action at 1/800 or more. This gym wasn’t that bright. Also, I can only submit 16 images max for a story, so setting the camera to 20 frames/second pretty much guarantees I’ll have enough sharp frames to submit. And the paper used exactly one game shot.
Hello! I just received a lumix g9 camera. It comes with a 45-200 lens. Here is a supermoto competition. I would like to ask. How to set up the camera? What is your advice? Thanks for the answer in advance!! Sincerely Tamás.
My advice is you go to Marlene’s channel and watch her videos: ruclips.net/p/PL46y8pfDCaW7crlPhtsP2fJNllIGOHQnP&si=KSaPLOOHvTqZafPk
One extra detail - you'll need to set the camera to AF-C first, otherwise the option to set "AF Custom Setting (Photo)" will be greyed out.
Thank you for pointing that out!
@@ToddBannor also forgot, (and I don't remember if you mentioned this) the G9 has a video recording limit of 10 minutes for a single clip. I ran into that shooting video of my son's soccer game the other day. You can just hit "record" again, but if you're about to get a very important play and are close to 10 minutes you might miss it because of that delay.
