    Just did this on a 69 firebird minutes ago. Took about two hours. It was easy.

    That really turned out nice ! Your an Ol' Pro Ol' School modest ! Great advice our parents said in the day. "You can do anything you put your mind too" I'll be reinstalling a black vinyl top on my 69 XR-7 428 CJ in a future channel project. Great tips.

    Great job nice video, what is the black paint you used on the roof under the vinyl?

      Thank you!
      I mainly prime , seal and painted the roof with any single stage paint. It just happened to be a Nason Product Black Paint.

    Upholstery shops charge an enormous amount to install a roof cover. I have installed a couple and you did an excellent job! All total how many hours would you say you have in installing and doing the trim work?

    • @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
      @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892  Год назад

      That is a good question. My story is a little crazy. I was working in a cold shop in the middle of January. I had to use boiling hot water with shop rags to remove the wrinkles from it being folded in a box. My shop had no heat, so it took me at least four days to remove the wrinkles. After that, I would say it took me 8-10 hours to measure, cut ,glue and trim.

    Very very nice Sir. May i ask adhesive you used to glue it down?

      Thank you!
      I used" Weldwood Contact Adhesive" it's the best. Do not use any Adhesive out of a spray can!Purchase you a cheap paint gun because once you complete the job. The gun may not be good for anything else.

    Nice job, car is going to be beautiful. I have a question about final trimming of the vinyl. That is, do you need to do any specific treatment to the cut edge of the vinyl that will be underneath the trim piece? Such as fold it in on itself, or some type of seam sealer. Or is it just that simple, cut to fit? Thanks!

    • @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
      @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892  2 года назад

      It's just that simple. The adhesive that I used will take care of that. Do not use the adhesive over the store counter at the part store.

      I must say that was 10 years ago. I would goggle the adhesive on the video and pick up a cheap paint gun from Harbor Frieight or a Hardware Store. Just make sure that you do not use Adhesive from a Spray Can. Not even a 3M Product . I only use Spray Can Adhesive on Headliners.

    Curious, my car is going in for paint and body soon, vinyl top car as well. The guy doing it said to plan on ordering new drip rail moldings for the roof, stating he will wreck them upon removal. Is that the typical case? Not too enthused to be ordering repops if I don’t have to.

    • @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
      @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892  Год назад

      Good question,
      I never had to replace Drip Rails due to removing Vinyl Top. If the Rails are not rusted. I do not bother them. I hope that helps.

    What prep do I need to do before this? Do I have to take the windows out? I know remove glue, repaint and scuff the surface

    • @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
      @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892  Год назад +1

      Make sure your top has no rust and dents. It need to already be primed seal and painted. You need to remove all side trimming, windshield, and rear glass. Just take your time and you will do fine.

    • @camleenc
      @camleenc Год назад +1

      It' not necessary to remove the windshield and back glass,just the trim moldings..Just saying. However if the windshield and back glass are already out of car that would be OK also.
