    Nice, I have that setup on my TJ. It's been great but a little more difficult to align. Most shops won't touch it to do a computer alignment though. So a tape measure is probably as close as you will be able to get it.

    good kit I have the 5/8 keep the dirt out of the heim joints if you look real close at them there is a thin plastic insert inside of them in the dirt will wear them out

    Hey Nick. we should talk about jeeps sometime. I run my 1996 Cherokee Country with a set up like this but use those special rocker washers or whatever on all of the hyme joints , not just the drag link, because it adds lots of fexibility to the joints. I favour this design over every other one. I also really love this video, instantly subscribed, I think yiure genuinely funny and found this to be one of my favourite videos of all time, 44 great minutes, and I think you're a genuinely great guy.

    Smashing job :-D, what a great improvement and all the loose joints are bye bye now lol.
    I like the simpler design better, well worth all your work :-D.
    Setting up the endstops just finishes the install nicely, and gives a positive stop, you dont need to worry about going too far.
    A possible brush over the bare joints with grease to help to keep water off, perhaps :-).

    thanks for sharing I use the string method for alignment. do yourself a great favor replace the lower control arm brackets that are on the front axle they will bend causing the axle to shift to one side and it will bend your track bar .this happen on my son's TJ. when he was wheeling.. replace them with something heavier..the Jeep has 33 inch tires with a 3-4inch lift. ..like the system you installed I wish they had a setup for a yj over the alxe.

    • @NickInTimeFilms

  • @aaronneely6720
    @aaronneely6720 7 лет назад

    Top notch install vid! Question: you mentioned getting a steering box from iro as well. Do you think decrease in steering wheel play is due more to the steering box or the drag link and tid rod? Im trying to decide if i need a new steering box. Thanka man, keep making vids!

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 лет назад

      Steering Box Spacer. The factory one is a weak aluminum section that is known to crap and will give lots of wiggle to the box. I still haven't gotten around to installing it as I plan to take the box out and tap it, maybe rebuild it too.
      But since this is a full steering replacement, i'm sure you'd notice a difference with this. Ironman4x4 sells an external steering box brace to keep it from wiggling the rest of the way which can also help to tighten it up but you might not notice a difference with smaller tires.

    • @aaronneely6720

    whats the difference of this to the cavfab crossover steering im trying to upgrade mine but i want something that would work ok for my daily driver

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  6 лет назад

      Well they are both heim joint steering kits. Cavfab is under the knuckle and requires you mount to the top of the pitman arm or get a track bar drop bracket to work. I've also heard shipping can take a while. Iron Rock Off Road is over the knuckle and still keeps all your factory angles. When set-up properly, either kit would work for a DD

  • @Wooskii1
    @Wooskii1 6 лет назад

    does your drag link roll? or flop around and clank/bang when you hit bumps?. I have a very similar setup (tho my tie rod is under the drag link on the pass side). it drives better on HWY (45+) than at under 40 mph. I don't have sway bars but have hydro assist. Im just concerned about the drag link banging...

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 лет назад

      Yep, didn't do a single thing to this kit. It's simple and easy, but I really wish there was some way to easily adjust the toe. It seems to want to wander a little at high speeds but it could be my wheel bearings, or it needs a touch more toe. Maybe i just didn't notice it when my steering was so loose. or maybe a steering stabilizer really does make a difference. I still really like this kit though.

    Hi Nick, I recently installed the same kit on my 90 XJ. Everything works great except when I bottom out the suspension, the tie rod contacts the pitman arm bolt and is putting some nasty marks on my beautiful tie rod... Have you experienced this problem? Thanks and love the videos!!
    Also, have you had any clearance issues with the steering damper?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 лет назад

      I don't know If I've been able to flex the kit out that hard yet but no contact issues on my end. How much lift do you have? Steering Damper clears properly but since I didn't adjust it right the first time I ruined the seal and all the fluid leaked out so it's useless now.

    • @sdklenke
      @sdklenke 7 лет назад

      I have the 6" Long arm kit from Full Traction Suspension Part #FTS720601. Only contacts when both front shocks are compressed, not while articulating either side. Hope I am not the only one with this problem. I also destroyed my damper, removed it, and running without one. Seems to be just fine. Anyways, keep up the good work! and give us an update on the steering in the future and let us know how its holding up. THANKS!

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 лет назад +1

      That seems to be the hottest question for heim steering, IRO or CavFab. Now obviously since their draglink mounts to the top of the knuckle, your steering angles are now out of whack. The common solution I've seen is to just mount to draglink to the top of the pitman arm as well and everything seems happy again.

    I just got this same setup and their double shear track bar. Extremely happy with how beefy it is. I didn't expect that. But you get what you pay for. I got quality and happy with it. How is your steering holding up now? the heims are dinky tiny on the 1/2 inch size. Worried it'll break.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 лет назад

      Steering is doing good. Noticing a little corrosion on the heims though so I should look into how to clean and lube them properly. Very smooth and makes it easier to turn the wheel. I'm not sure if i even need hydro assist anymore, we will see in april. And Hell no, lol. If I'm doing something that'll break a heim, then I need wantons or a chill pill, haha.

      Not sure the exact model as it's my dad's but it pretty decently powerful. The 1/2" has a good amount of force behind it and seems to even surprise me with what it can take off but I have low expectations. It should be fine for low to medium duty jobs but for the BIG jobs I just grab the 1/2" Air Impact as the good ones have a really heavy hit.

    Just curious it`s bean about 1 year since your install, how do you rate the OTK setup off road and hwy speeds ?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  6 лет назад +2

      Offroad it's excellent, a lot smoother to turn and doesn't get caught on the rocks much anymore. Actually took a deer to the passenger side links around 35 and not even a scratch. Did have to tighten it up after that though.
      On road I'm not as sure, it's very responsive, but it like to dart around on the highway. I'm not sure if i need more toe, if the caster needs to be adjusted, or is something is wiggling around but it's a constant struggle on the highway unless you're going 70 and then the tires hold themselves straight lol. might not be the steerings fault, but my setup still needs work

      Not a smart move for all situations as some steering rods are thin and with time can get a weak spot and break, but with your set up try removing your steering stabilizer and take on the HWY. Some times they throw off the track bar I`ve had a few hardcore Jeep vets tell me to get 1 ton steering rods and toss that stupid shock.

    • @NoFear4XJs

      You probably need ball joints to with those huge tires you must go through many....?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  6 лет назад

      Ball Joints are only a couple years old, Hub Bearings changed this year, steering stabilizer is dead so i might as well just take it off. Wondering if the box is flexing, if the spacer is finally cracked, is alignment or goofy tires or what. just annoying.

    • @NoFear4XJs
      @NoFear4XJs 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah remove shock. Definitely check steering box your bolts are probably lose make sure you use torque wrench you don`t want to bent in the uni-body they go through... I bought the JCR steering box brace was easy to install, also welded metal plate to the uni-body on the other side due to a crack forming under the stock swaybar mounting bolts... Solid now as the bolts go trough the JCR brace and metal plate on the outer side :] Also welded a plate where the crack was forming on the bottom of the uni-body that was hinding under the swaybar bolts.

    I'm having some trouble with my 97 ZJ, the rear wiper wasn't working, got a new motor and put it in and it's still not working. I hear a click noise from the back when I try to activate the rear wiper... Any idea on what the issue could be?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 лет назад

      Hmm. So you replaced the whole unit and still nothing? The clicking you hear is most likely the relay turning the motor on and off, unless it like a constant clicking which would indicate something is broken. I would assume the wiring and the switch are ok if it makes a noise when you hit the button so i would think it's either the plug, or maybe a faulty relay with burned out contacts, or something else not happy.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  6 лет назад

      I think the wandering was from my caster being so far off with the 6" lift. Good question, it drives straight now, only issue left is over certain hard bumps there are a few death wobble shimmies and then it goes back to normal. New HD track bar, this steering, 3 link long arm kit, but no stabilizer. Could be the front tires are way off balance though, but I went through and adjusted all my links till it drove straight and had good caster to keep straight.

    Hi Nick,Was wondering if this steering is holding up well. or better yet are the joints rattling or grinding? See after watching your video I want this kit. But over time my Track bar from Rubicon express is creaking, ya joint warn. have new Rubicon HD one to install.As for my steering system its still factory. and I don't want to change the sway bar mounts so this kit makes sense. Or if you did it again would you go with ironman4x4fab one as the joints are way better.. or are they?Any input would help. ThanksRob.FYI I live in BC Canada, and ya Rains a lot here and in winter we get salt, so if this rust a lot it would add to wear.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  6 лет назад

      So far this kit has held up fine. Joints are still fairly tight and I have never lubed them or really cleaned them off. Steering is still tight and responsive for this kit, But i'm still trying to track down an overall looseness of my whole system. I'm wondering if the box or frame is bending a little or something, still need to look into it more. But I still like this kit a lot and would probably get it again if I needed too.
      I would also recommend Iron Mans Ton+ kit because it is a TRUE Y-Link kit so tierod roll will not be an issue with that. For extreme weather / lots of corrosion, you may be better off long term with Tie Rod Ends since they are greasable with boots, but these heims are lasting much better then the Rubicon Express Track Bar one so either way should go well

      Hi Nick, so i went with a 1 ton steering upgrade from a different company. But i need to replace the ball joints in it and it flip flops.. also it limited my steering as its a strait bar across from one knuckle to the other. UTK. It kits the track bar bolt. Issue is I reamed out the pitman arm and knuckles.
      I thought it was a better kit due to not having heim joints. My trackbar was the one you have and it got loose and clanky and creeked.
      I was wondering if you have had issues with this steering now as its been 5 years since you installed it? Heim joints ok? And have you thought about rubber booties for the joints and put them on with a load of grease inside?

It completely eliminates any play / flex of the steering box , and has a separate mount to support the sector shaft , I think this would be a great addition to your setup and could really tighten up your steering and add the bracing needed to help eliminate the stress on your steering box with the larger tires and the locker .... Here is a link to his FB page , so you can check out his parts ... They are all extremely strong and built like no others on the market ......facebook.com/ironman4x4fab/

      I've seen it floating on FB from time to time, someone else mentioned it too. It definitely looks stout and if I was just planning to upgrade the box then I'd probably get one, but I've got other ideas for taking stress of the box. And the fb link was to your own page, lol

      My bad ... I was trying to post his page ... Its facebook.com/ironman4x4fab/ .......... And are you thinking about Hydro assist ? .............. You can order Hiem Joint boots from FK Rod ends that will seal the joints and help keep mud and dust out of the joints ... It will also allow you to spray white lithium grease into the boots to extend the life of the joints themselves ........ We installed them on my buddies steering and they work wonders for keeping the junk out of the joints ... Plus the added lubrication keeps the joints working smooth and stops the balls from getting surface rust on them , which degrades the lining inside the hiems ....
