Just finished this project yesterday took about four hours mostly because of being very careful and documenting everything along the way. I could not have done it without this video. Two of the screws were completely loose in the other two were about to fall out. I shutter to think what might have happened if they all came loose. Couple of things are missing. The electrical contact fitting near the ignition switch screw comes out easily and is attached to a spring which needs to be removed and re-fit onto that fitting when rebuilding. Perhaps that’s in your video on changing the ignition switch. The second is the tilt wheel plastic tab that connects with the metal rod when you takeoff the plastic cover piece which surrounds the tilt wheel rod. That falls out easily and it took me a while to figure out where it went back in. I was surprised when I got it all back together and it is perfect. Everything works. The tools are necessary so be sure to get them first.
Thank you for posting this video. I have the tools and will start this project. I appreciate your detailed instructions. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without your content. Thanks!😅
Very helpful! I need to replace the shaft on my steering wheel for an '84 GW. I have gotten as far as taking out the turn signal pieces. I feel much more confident going forward with this video to use as a reference. Thanks!
Could you do a video taking the column all the way down? I think it would be awesome to see taking the shift lever out, the lower bearings etc! Thank you!
Are the inner shafts on a 68 and a 78 gladiator/J10 interchangeable?. Asking because I bought an entire 68 j3000 cab for my rotted 78, gladiator cab is already secured to j10s frame. Edit: No i dont want to use the j10s steering column I prefer the old look and not having to cut metal on my new cab
the shroud pulls off after everything was disconnected as shown. All you do (once everything is loose) is just pull toward you. Guess you can't make everyone happy with a free video ;)
That was the hardest part for me to get off 😂 I went back to watch how you did it and you skipped over that. Got it off just had to muscle it and tilt the right way. Thanks for the tutorial, very helpful walkthrough!

Awesome, priceless video! Thank you!
Great video! Very helpful. I emailed, hoping to locate one of those slick pin removal tools.

Thank you
Thank you 🙏
Which steering wheel kit is that and will it work on a 91 GW?
it was on there when we bought it, but its a Grant Steering wheel, and whatever kit they used works on the Grand Wagoneer
Thanks for doing this one, I need to do this in my 85. Where did you get the tool to remove the pivot pins?

Not sure, as we haven't swapped or compared them.
@@bjsoffroad thanks
Hey there, would you be willing to share the tools you used? Also, did you re-grease everything and, if so, what grease did you use?

You did not show how you got the shroud off. Crucial cheating

I don't seem to have enough slack on the wire that feeds the turn signal to get it off.
